me getting chicken ramen to watch this & then you in the video with the same thing, connoisseurs....and i laughed So hard at the clip you edited in for "why do they eat!!" & it's so true like i2i is such a good song AND scene. and this film is amazing, watching it right after i watched your encanto reaction, both not just my fave movies from disney but also about what makes family work, where just trying to put your foot down is never enough if you want the relationships to be genuine & positive. & you're so right how this movie shows the importance of communication and actually treating it as a two way street, instead of the usual approach in real life & media that truly as long as the parent "keeps the kid under their thumb" & forces the "correct" family activities, the family will be as close as they want & the kid will just go along with it, & it ultimately doesn't matter how the kid is treated b/c they'll just have to be Appreciative enough. it definitely reminds me of how my parents might have like "quality time" that was forced as what they wanted to do & when they wanted to do it, so no matter how fun it was it was still usually an interruption thrown at you & you didn't get a say in it. it's fun how even at the start there's signs that like, powerline is a huge deal for max but goofy doesn't even know who he is (& if he did, or asked more about it, max would be more likely to explain what he got in trouble for at school, for a start) & there's that parallel with miscommunication between max & roxanne setting up more conflict, it happens so fast it's hard to say but maybe roxanne actually sees max as this popular cool guy, both because he kind of Is popular & cool now & maybe could've gotten another date to the party & b/c she probably had a crush on him for a while already too, so she's insecure & ready to jump to conclusions about him making other plans & wanting to spare her feelings or something....& meanwhile there's the contrast with pj & pete, where pete assumes things about what pj's up to that are completely inaccurate, & pj still does stuff like keep secrets for his friend or take a video camera without permission, he's just more afraid to do it & hiding things from his dad, b/c kids are people & adults can't just tell them what to do or be & have that manifest, & forcing "staying in line" & expecting any kind of actual closeness as people are at odds & then kids are more likely to distance themselves & share as little as possible even if they're around their parents all the time, but people who got to actually share more of themselves around their parents & have a decent to good relationship probably end up actually wanting to talk to & be around their parents lol. ANYWAY did not need to type all that out but now i already have haha & the movie really deserves it, it's so fun, the animation & songs are sooo enjoyable & the message is so real & serious about being understanding of both perspectives in the relationship & what it takes to improve that relationship instead of treating it like it's about who's right or wrong. meanwhile other supposedly more "serious" movies about parent / child dynamics can do way less & just default to "if the parent cares enough, the child will have to appreciate them" as like the be all end all Unbreakable Family Bond. this movie is such a gem & the '90s setting is so fantastic too. great reaction too obviously lol b/c even though it's easy to say sooo much & more about this movie, i'd only have the motivation when someone really enjoys it & gives it so much thought too

what a fun reaction lol i kept smiling....easily my favorite disney movie i've ever seen (also a goofy movie, which i see in the youtube sidebar you reacted to & i'll be watching that next) & i love a movie that can focus on character & relationships so much, where there's a metaphor (like magic powers to represent more everyday abilities & strengths) but the core story is followed & can show plenty of very ordinary & day to day experiences. and you really saw to the heart of it right away with that "truth tellers are always shunned" & noting even before we met him or even heard much about him that bruno's power would make him a truth teller too, & meanwhile mirabel isn't having visions but gets this unique perspective on the family problems anyways both through being shown the cracks in the casita & just by being this more vulnerable family member who falls shorter of expectations than others & gets less support, which happened to bruno too, not just because people were blaming him for seeing & telling truths through his visions but also b/c as mirabel says, he's just the "family weirdo" & is pretty easily read as disabled, & you have issues that have nothing to do with his power like that even though pepa thought it was a vision of his that ruined her wedding (even though it didn't really, "what a joyous day but anyway" lol) she also just misinterpreted her brother's effort to be friendly & supportive so badly & never even realized there was a misunderstanding there, plus things like dolores' line "grew to live in fear of bruno stuttering & stumbling / i can always hear him sort of muttering & mumbling" or even that he has pet rats like, all things that are just "weird" but separate from his visions & resonate SO hard w/disabled experiences, & a possible read of ocd in his rituals / patterns to ward off bad luck, when he's probably internalized that he "makes" bad things happen even when he knows he doesn't do it on purpose & when his life has been so out of his control to the point that he knew he couldn't even show the vision about mirabel & then argue for Not scapegoating her too, b/c nobody would listen or understand, same as mirabel never got very far talking to anyone (except luisa) & either had to roll with what that person decided to do or just hide what she was doing to be able to do things her own way at all i've definitely had a bruno type of life/family experience lol & it rules how thoughtful & caring this story is towards a character like that, & how important he is b/c he & mirabel are So similar. they basically go through the same moment, where at antonio's ceremony mirabel is off to the side behind a wall so she doesn't ruin things, just like bruno, & while she doesn't want to experience the possible personal rejection of trying to be among her family then, she's able to do it when antonio needs her support, since now he's feeling vulnerable & like he might not live up to expectations & be rejected, but he knows mirabel actually understands him & gives him that support that she (& the family) will be okay either way, instead of that the family won't be proud / everyone will be let down & something will be wrong with him if he doesn't get a gift....and then even though bruno wants to stay hidden from the family, including mirabel, he turns around to help her when she's about to fall, and then will come out & give his first vision in a decade b/c she feels she needs him, and Then even when he doesn't want to interact with abuela & risk being rejected just for his own sake, in the end he shows up ready to be rejected & blamed for destroying everything b/c he's protecting mirabel from that. it's super real how the outcast truth tellers can really give each other support, like, even if they're blaming & kicking themselves (b/c that's the message they're getting from everything all the time & as far as they can tell it IS just them failing to do okay enough, so must be their fault after all) they can then look at someone in the same boat & give that person genuine sympathy & support, like mirabel does for antonio & then bruno, & then bruno turns out to have always seen mirabel as someone to support & protect & even though he thinks there's a chance she could cause everything to fall apart, he doesn't blame her, & is already appreciating what she does so much that he'll tell her she's just what the family needs even before she's saved anything. and then it also feels so true to life that the littlest kid is the family member who would actually rather embrace people being more supportive of each other and it being safer to be vulnerable and imperfect, and so he feels supported by mirabel b/c she's there for him without him having to "prove his worth" with a gift or anything, and he's not at all afraid of bruno or put off by his "weirdness" or anything and everything else feeling Really Real too lol but whew the Scapegoated Truth Tellers part, & that being like the most crucial thread in the story & all lol, making or breaking a family or any other group....and that those people irl tend to be whoever's already less supported by the standards / "norms" of a group & are left more vulnerable, so they have a better perspective on how any & everyone can be failed by the group's support, & then when they're just telling the truth about that it's just framed as "creating" problems rather than experiencing them, & this disruption is pushed out even when this evidence of problems being shared could help bring necessary change so that everyone's more supported, b/c when a community or home or family is supposed to be a refuge, that's not actually happening if there's this precarity in that group too that's trying to push out everyone's vulnerability instead of trying to make it genuinely safer to be vulnerable in that supposed refuge than outside it. & that bruno is that first scapegoated truth teller, as the triplet who's "too (emphasis on the Quote Unquote lol) disabled" & also the only triplet without kids & has a possible queer reading too, as does isabela or whatever characters we want lol....lord it's just like. so much appreciation for people having the scapegoat / outcast / truth teller Experience & what people can go through but also what they can do to give this necessary support & understanding to others even as they get cast as The Problem / the person ruining everything & etcccc i CANNOT be brief lmao but this was a great reaction to a great movie. bruno an icon and this movie is so real about family dynamics and the ways people can really be mistreated and pushed out of a family even when that family seems ideal and values its togetherness. gotta actually treat all the members that way then!! & not just take it for granted that the Idea of the family will keep everyone within reach forever & that it can just be blamed on the people who were mistreated when they're unhappy & when they leave

Yeah... I didn't bother with the campus store if I could help it. There was a grocery half a mile down the road. I would *walk* down there, because I couldn't drive, and get my groceries. Ramen at the campus store: $2.50/pack; Ramen at the local grocery: $0.49/pack. Save up quarters for a week, go to the local grocery on weekends with $3.50, just to be safe, *and* get a light walk with your weekly Ramen binge!

Personally, I think Isa is a little jealous of Mirabel, because Mirabel has *zero* expectations placed on her. Luisa is probably a teensy bit jealous, too... but handles it better in general, because she has to be the "strong" one.... the "protector."
