SB Fruit Tree is located in Santa Barbara, CA in Zone 9b.
My name is Kevin Reimer and I've been deep into gardening over the last few years after seeing the love and devotion that my 87 year old friend Dotty put into her low maintenance succulent garden. She always explained how much she loved plants and I started to collect a few here or there, starting with ex-commercial blueberry plants, followed up by figs and plums and then realizing I could collect and propagate all my favorite exotic fruits I tried along my world travels as professional skateboarder.
My collection ranges from tomatoes and potatoes to rare annona, eugenia, plinia, to endangered campomanesias. I'm still learning, but I hope to help others along their journey as well.

I had about a 10% take with my scions.
Thanks for the video, was wondering how long grimals can take to fruit. Not much info on them.
What type of soil is best for dragon fruits, currently I have two seedlings in some regular potting soil, although they stopped showing development
Dragonfruit are not picky, and will grow well in almost any medium - but they will not tolerate muddy or mucky conditions in heavy organic content soil such as woodchip potting soil mixes. You are best using a well draining mixture of cactus soil with large stones, sand, and no more than 30% organic material, or you can use a well draining potting mixture of mostly peat with 20-30% perlite content. Dragonfruit only grow well with lots of sun and warm weather, so they should be transitioned to full sun if they are not already in it! DF are tolerant of temperatures between 40f and 105f, so even if your lows are going into the mid 40s they are ok outside. I have used Kellogg Cactus soil with great success. I also recommend using a slow release granular fertilizer distributed on the surface of the soil to keep them growing well.
Those are great for propogation
It's better to select firm flesh mature branches for propagation, and you'll have plenty of that when they reach the top and stop cascading. I need to prune annually on my larger DFs
U sound like mrbeast😅
Is that a good thing? Who knows! haha
Yes he is the most subscribed RUclipsr
Yummy petals
Mites in a can? Never knew that existed 😅
Me neither! I hope they go to work
So “down in the paw paw patch” is not just a saying?
Pawpaws send up suckers like crazy when they are mature, so they can end up being a massive thicket inside the woods. They are a fascinating tree, the largest native North American fruit, and dang delicious, sort of like eating caramel pudding. Yum. I can't wait for pawpaw season!
LO?
Americans always waste!!!
A real waste would be the tree branches breaking due to excess fruit on too small a tree.
Why?
Tree will break, it is too small to hold this many apples
I’ve never seen a real Apple tree before
My favorite fruit ever
Why do you choose to pot your dragon fruit instead of planting in ground?
I rent here, so I thought I might move
Beautiful tree! Where did you find it?
I purchased this as a seedling from Florida just a few inches tall. It’s amazing how big it is now!
You have some pretty rare plants there. Can’t wait to see what they bring you in a few years.
Awesome collection mate! I'm a part time collector, more of a food grower but love to see collections like this. Hope you find a piece of land to call your own, even here in Australia its almost out of reach for younger people looking for a property, everyday i count my blessings that i purchased my 1/2 acre block 15 years ago when it was cheap.
Great tour 👍🏼 I’m in zone 9B eastern Victoria in Australia and we are trying some subtropicals here too. We get a few frosts each Winter under 32F degrees. Do you get frosts there in your Winters?
I do get frosts. We get down to 25 sometimes. I will put lots of plants in the greenhouse or garage and will cover others
Awesome stuff!
So many plants I’ve never heard of 👀
Wow you rent?!
Yeah, I am insane I guess. I will basically never be able to afford property in Santa Barbara, so, I just had to accept it and do what I wanted on this property. My landlord has absolutely zero interest in gardening so I am sad to know it will die quickly without me here. I will tear out everything I can when I leave, hoping to move to SD county and get some acreage one day. For now, I'm here.
@@SBFruittree enjoy it while you can, I'm stuck with a city backyard and very envious!
Amazing place. Thanks for sharing! Your lychee seedling is looking better than my ratty one 😂
Love your setup. A ton of diversity through grafting. Very nice.
Awesome tour, mate. Could you get marcotted yangmei from the folks that gave you the scions? I have a big 9ft female yangmei, no males as I killed my others but a friend is marcotting one of his big males for me, he has had success doing it b4.
Hadn’t heard of them being air layer friendly like that! I have a lot of seedlings in ground and just going to rely on those I think.
Bear didn't like the 'panda Glad it's recovering
GOOD JOB
You have done a fantastic job on that sand . 😊
Wow, that is amazing
❤😊
Looking healthy
When you say chip drops your referring to saw dust?
Woodchips from arborists, they're pretty large and definitely not sawdust.
Google chipdrop, it's a company that connects local arborist with people who would like logs and wood chips they come in directly drop the entire load on your property
Worse than a random northern Illinois backyard
So jealous of all the growers that have great soil to start!
@@SBFruittree I know. I live in Illinois and didn't realize we have it so good until I looked up a soil color chart of USA. Illinois was the darkest. You got some good stuff coming in though! I wouldn't sell worms to people killing them, but I think breeding worms may be a good idea.
That is great
Would kill for that. Stuck with Florida myakka. Basically sugar sand, and organic matter disappears in a year. I'm trying biochar now
Mine is sugar sand in a lot of places too. Keep going with the organic matter, especially thick cut woodchips!
@@SBFruittree unless its treated wood, the termites move in on it and its broken down and gone in a year like everything else.
I know that makes you feel like you’re winning with good soil quality!!! Congratulations!!!
Good dirt!
Looking good😊
Yeehaw!
Rock on with all your kick but Myrtaceae 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Drive by plant tour
Looks good
How do u correct the ph in water ? What do u use for that ? Do u use a ph down liquid or rain water or well water or a water filter or acid liquid ?
I have same question, I have a struggling Jabo here, and I think it might need correction
I find adding a couple zip ties over the grafting or buddy tape really "seals" the deal
When is it the best time to graft? What month? Thanks!
I am in 9b and would not hesitate to graft between late February and May.
@SBFruittree Can you make a video on choosing the best branch to graft on to?? Thanks!
What times of the year can you graft them?
I would feel comfortable grafting anytime from February to May here in 9b California
@@SBFruittree Awesome, thanks for the reply!
I love your Pineapple Guava Cocktail. It's looking so good!
Did you say your source for bud wood was Santa Cruz Ca? That would mean Plinia snare a lot more cold hardy than I thought!
Mine have been covered in snow and down to 25f with only minor damage.
Could I add foxfarm happy frog soil and then add a acidic fertilizer. I have little jaboticaba seedlings.
Happy Frog is a nice soil, but doesn't have enough perlite for drainage. I would recommend Ocean Forest over it. If you add perlite and more peat or acid fertilizer, it will help. Don't go overboard with acidity.
OK cool I bought acidic fertilizer holly tone and and I bought ocean forests soil thanks for the info 🙏
what time of the year was this please?
March
Pretty impressive that you got 100% takes. Whoa you got White Goose too! Mammoth hasn't produced 'mammoth' sized fruit for me.
