Good video. Forester, I have only just got into his books - amazing author! And Vampirella, by Ron Goulart are absolutly classics, cover and content. I wish I had never got rid of my collection.

Warren Magazine's Vampirella had some great artists like Jose Gonzalez and Esteban Maroto. The novels are hard to find. You lucked out!

Good haul. From 1995 to 2008, I read a lot of comics. Vampirella was one of the comics. Until your video, I had no idea there were novels. Your thoughts on the covers made me curious. I looked up on Barnes and Noble. There are still graphic novels being released. The covers are still similar to the ones on the books you purchased

I was just saying how great vintage sci-fi and fantasy covers were between 50s-70s. Over the top delicious fun.

Loved hearing your thoughts on this!! “If it was a food, it would be porridge.” 😂 It’s so odd to me that authors were paid by the word in the past. I don’t know why that would be the case. I haven’t read any Trollope but, I might look for one of the shorter books.

I've not read Trollope yet but i want to. I'm getting the sense that some of his books are great and some not so much, but many people love this writing so i think i need to give him a try.

Impressive review Nigel. After your review, I don't think I will be reading the book. It only sounds like enough story for a book of maybe 300 pages. At the end of your video, you say "I hope you're reading something great". After you read this book, I hope you're reading something great. I suspect you need a great read after reading this one.

Trollope concentrated more on the characterization rather than their looks which I really liked. And I'm willing to bet he got ideas for this book from social society. I couldn't stand most of the characters, but I still enjoyed the complexity of the characters and their stupid decisions and their blame game, etc. The psychology is so fun. A modern title today would be girls behaving badly. My title Stupid girls, but where were the fathers? Alice's father was just as useless as Mr. Bennett.

I just talked about receiving a gift of a Trollope novel in my most recent video. Somehow, Trollope has completely escaped me. I enjoyed hearing your thoughts about this novel. Thanks, Nigel.

I love compression, give me 'Heart of Darkness' any day over Trollope (& serialised largesse). Not sure it's for me.

It’s a toss up between 3 and 5. For #3 I’d maybe just have one of the 3 books at the bottom and then have the rest from there up as is. I liked having Reading Ideas at the top. #5 was okay as well, but I think I’m leaning towards #3 although the stacked books was the only part I felt was a bit too much.

If we fail to remember we are doomed to repeat.

I used to live close to the Grand Union... nice rambles along her. When I taught in the UK I did a trip to Auschwitz - which all primary school children in Poland have to visit [or similar] - and it has an effect. Referencing is all well and good, often considered cool, but may demean those who died. Being ex-Navy I believe we should always remember, and be on guard. Some now-a-days, focus only on uniforms and maps. The gas chamber at Auschwitz I is awful when you go in. Good chat. Thanks.

1 and 2 feel too "corporate" for a booktube channel. 3 is attractive but complicated. 4 and 5 work best in my opinion and my first instinct was that 5 matched your channel aesthetic best. Hope that helps!

Impressive video. You would be a good motivational speaker. I had a co-worker who had a goal to be the president of the company we worked at (Hamilton Sundstrand, an aerospace manufacturer). I thought that was crazy. Upon reflection, I realized I was wrong. No one becomes president of a company by accident. She never did, but she was still right to make that her goal.

Your edition only had 750 pages?! what is the font size? My edition was 830 not including the notes. I think we should always strive to be better than our past self. 🤗

I don't mind repetition when used correctly, and I think self-help essentially needs to be repetitive. It helps to program the mind and create a habit. Knowing how to hone your willpower to your advantage is a powerful tool. Everyone who wanted to be or do something remarkable had to will it first.
