    Congratulations! On the how people afford the larger vans. Many of them are technically rv’s. An rv has a loan period of 15-20 years. That brings down the monthly a ton. I have a Winnebago Solis px. Which is considered Winnebago’s entry-level class b rv aka camper van. My monthly is around what I would have paid for a car monthly or an empty cargo van payment if the loan was a normal 5 years.

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature 11 часов назад

      @@lizdc1 thank you! I tried to go the RV financing route for the lower monthly bill for that very reason but my van was a custom build so no RV status for me. ☹️ We have a lot of Revels in CO but I don’t think I’ve seen a Solis. In making that statement, I wasn’t thinking bigger but instead of the lifted custom builds like Drifter or Storyteller who do premium luxury vans or vans for off-roading. I see a bunch of those and Revels here with Owl gear all over them that tell me I’m definitely in a different income bracket. 😂 Love that you’re rocking Winnebago! Are you full-time or part-time?

    Hi Roxanne,! Yay! The Shakedown trip! I wonder how it went? (Next video, right?) I remember doing a shakedown trip in my Toyota van years ago in my friend's driveway. I have made so many changes since then....of course, camping needs are ever-evolving. I use my 700 watt power station with a twin size electric blanket on cool nights. I may need it only to heat it up before going to bed, or sometimes it's chilly early in the morning....anyway, the pure sine wave is a necessity (or at least, that's what I was told), and I have never had any problems. I have discarded a couple of 12 volt car blankets because they just don't work well over time. You are well-prepared, and just be careful with the Mr. Buddy heater....I will use one on cold nights for just a few minutes with a vented window. Can't wait to see your video with an update for us all! Happy prep for happy trails!

There are several videos on my channel of the easy build I did, and how I can even take my bicycle and my kayak at the same time when I go camping! I am so excited for your maiden trip! How long have you owned the Jackery 500? I would like to learn what the difference between that and the inverter you talked about. I hear other You Tubers talking about these, why do we need them & what do they do? I am wondering if you have solar panels installed on your vehicle. Have a wonderful time in your new home.

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature День назад

      Thank you! I'm always so grateful for your questions, mostly because I've been geeking out on this stuff for 8+ years. I've owned a Jackery 500 for 4 years. (The one I have is my second one. The 110v plug on my old one was messed up and Jackery replaced it for free under warranty.) I also have a Bluetti AC180, which is just a bigger power station, that I won't bring with me. I'm not an expert but my understanding is that inverters regulate energy coming from power sources like batteries and have ports for you to plug in and power devices. The "bigger" the capacity of the inverter, the bigger the device or appliance you can power. It's why you have to check the wattage on appliances to make sure the inverter you have can handle the initial surge needed to power it. Case in point, the electric blanket I bought pulls 50 watts with an initial surge of 50 (I think). From that, I know that my Jackery 500 can handle the 50w surge and the blanket will drain it in 9-10 hours. It can't handle my 900-watt hot plate or 700-watt rice cooker, though, since it caps out at 500 watts. My van has an Ecoflow power system with a high-capacity inverter that powers all of my outlets, including the ones for my fridge, lights, and air conditioner. It can also jump the van's starter battery (which it's had to do a few times). Also, I have 400 watts of solar on the roof along with a port for shore power (that lets me plug the Ecoflow system into an outlet.) Let me know if you have any other questions!

    • @sofiamiliaressis5403
      @sofiamiliaressis5403 22 часа назад

      Cool its sounds like the Ecoflow system in conjunction with the solar panels that you've got is all may need to power the fridge, lights, rice cooker & the blanket on its own. Fantastic! So l'm thinking that maybe you will have the Bluetti for emergency sakes when the Ecoflow may not have the power you need?

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature 15 часов назад

      @ the Ecoflow is my home power bank. I use it during power outages, especially ones during work hours. It’s also why I have a hotspot I pay for even when not traveling so I’ll still have access to to wifi. A lot of nomads who don’t want to build an electrical system use these power banks. The big ones are Ecoflow, Jackery, Bluetti and GoalZero. There are also a LOT of cheaper brands with different components on the market now. You’ll have lots of options to choose from!

I'm not a fan of debt which is why this big-ticket purchase took me so long so kudos to you! I did go over why I chose the van in my van tour video but the long and short is that the builder I wanted to go with only worked on Sprinters when I decided to commit to this version of my dream. (They've since started working on Ford Transits, which irks my soul a little since I thought an AWD Transit would be easier to maintain and less expensive to service.) New subby here ... Welcome to #VanLife. We just started vanlife, we were #RVLife for the past 5 years and decided to build our own van. Couple of things stood out in your tour... Great cabinets and under the bed storage. Please drain or heat your water in the cold. May need to add some bungee cords or something to keep stuff from shifting under the bed. But, please make sure the outlet next to your sink is GFCI outlet. It's required when outlets are near water sources. If not, its a fire waiting to happen. Side note, you will wish for a full bath 😂if in there fulltime🛀. It's a blessing!

    • @Road_Trip_Warriors
      @Road_Trip_Warriors 5 дней назад

      Good information. Sometimes you will see those pop up electrical towers near sinks but those can have problems as well due to water. The suggestion on installing a GFCI outlet there is a good one.

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature 5 дней назад

      Thank you! Love that you built your own van. I've definitely drained my tanks and don't plan to store water again until I head south to warmer weather. I also have plans for the under-bed storage. Things don't shift out of them because small items are in wooden crates with soft items tucked in around it. Not sure about the GFCI rating on the outlet but I will find out. Thank you! Oh! And, I can't imagine having a full bath in there. I'll have to go check out your build to see where you fit it in there!

    • @Road_Trip_Warriors
      @Road_Trip_Warriors 5 дней назад

      @@OutdoorsybyNature Looking at the photo, it is difficult to tell if that is a GFCI outlet. Do you see a small reset button on the front? If not, it is not GFCI. It's possible it could be connected to another outlet that is GFCI. On our rig, We have a GFCI outlet on the wall near the kitchen sink, but we have an outlet in the bathrooms that is not GFCI but is on the same circuit, so if the circuit trips in the bathroom, we need to reset it using the GFCI on the kitchen wall. Do you have another outlet or is the one on the countertop the only one?

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature 5 дней назад

      @@Road_Trip_Warriors There's not a reset button that I recall seeing on that pad. It and the outlet under the sink that powers the water heater are linked to the Ecoflow battery system. I'll have to look closer at them all when I get the van back from the shop. Since it's an isolated portable power system built specifically for vans, RVs, and trailers, I'm not sure GFCI is even an option but I'll check.

    • @Road_Trip_Warriors
      @Road_Trip_Warriors 5 дней назад

      @@OutdoorsybyNature In the interest of full disclosure, I am certainly no expert on electrical systems. That said, I do see that your outlet on the countertop does have receptacles for plugging in 110 volt devices. That means you probably have an inverter (converts DC (battery) power to AC (110 volt) or a way to plug into your rig using shore power. I don't think you have a rooftop AC unit so any power connection would probably be 110 only. We have a travel trailer and we have GFCI outlets. WeOnAMission was correct in that if you have outlets near a water source, by code it should be a GFCI (which is essentially a small circuit breaker). Sorry for these long comments.

      I think so, too, Carol. I was imagining being out where there's no cell service and it happening there. 😐 I'm planning to live in it part-time on extended trips. I have two home bases in two different cities so I'd love to split my time in it by region - exploring the south in the cooler months and enjoying the north in the warmer ones.

    Nice tour! Looks great! I wonder if the folding table that's attached using magnets would be easier to remove if there was a piece of fabric placed between the two sides, like a pillowcase or something? If someone else can detach it for you and you can test it out.

    I really like it! I am still in the throes of doing my research on what vehicle l want, & trying to find out all about the types of accessories l would be needing to do this, just like you did methodically. I'm leaning toward camper van style maybe? Can you please tell us how much the vehicle cost for you and how much it cost all up for the interior build?

      Hi Sofia! Thanks for commenting. I mentioned this on another video but you can check out the vans Geotrek has for sale or play with their "build your van" feature to get a feel for cost at geotrekvans.com. They also post to thevancamper.com where you can sometimes catch a "for sale by owner" deal on one of their older builds. Best of luck to you as you do your research! If you have any other questions, let me know.

    Nice video and tour. If your battery malfunctions in cold temperatures, it's time to replace it. I love your build. One suggestion is to put some type of retractable cover over the outlet that is on the surface of your kitchen countertop since it sits flat. Don't want to get water in there, bad things can happen.

    • @OutdoorsybyNature
      @OutdoorsybyNature 8 дней назад

      Thank you for that tip! I'll definitely look into what could work for that because that is a great point. Also, the battery did malfunction again. I'm taking it in and will push to have it replaced. I'm not comfortable taking it too far from home if it could leave me stranded. Womp womp.
