Riding the Honda XR150L with my dog. #motorcycle #dualsport #doglife #honda #xr150l
I took my dog out to ride on the 2023 Honda XR150L to get him more comfortable. He loves it, but you can tell he is still a little nervous because he's up so much higher than his sidecar for the electric bike. It is just so much more fun riding with a buddy! Please subscribe and help grow and build the channel ‎@EbikesandMore . We are now planning a long trip and maybe overnight camping now that he is more used to the bike. #dualsport #doglife #honda #motorcycle #xr150l

E-bike repairs and diagnosis on Freego bike and added 1k watt front hub. #electricbike #freego
Просмотров 2514 дней назад
I am working on a Freego electric bike for a customer and found that the BMS is failing in the battery and not allowing it to use full power. I was adding a 1,000 watt front hub motor onto it because we thought the original motor wasn't working properly. I tested the battery and it was at 51 volts, but it wasn't tested while running and seems that isn't cutting out. #ebike #freego #electricbike

It had been raining for 3 days straight here in Ohio, so I decided to go ahead and make a jettibg change. The stock carburetor on the 2023 Honda XR150L has a 105 main jet, and a 35 pilot jet. That should be a very dependable bike. I think you got a very nice bike. A friend of mine had an SP 125. It always started first kick never smoked, It always ran good everyday.. He only ever had to replace the valve tappets because they wear down on the SP 125's kind of fast. When that happens it causes the valves not to open all the way causing low top end RPM's. You will hear them making noise, and slapping around if they get wore down too much over time. Adjusting them helps for a while but they will wear down even worse pretty quick. It's best to just get new ones. I love these bikes. I am pretty sure Suzuki released the DR line of bikes after these and they are excellent as well. yours is a 4 valve that's why it's so fast. That means it has high output heads.

If you didn't know, Suzuki did not make this model in 1984. I only found out how this bike came to be by deduction reasoning and some calls to Suzuki Corporate. Apparently were trying to break into the street dual purpose market and did a special run of these bikes and sent them to various Cycle Courses. There are things on this bike that never appeared on their bikes after. My bike only has 10,000kms and the tank and it's interior are mint. How do you connect the back of the sidecar to the side of the bike?

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore Месяц назад

      I had it connected at first with a metal bar and brackets from the sidecar and bike, but it wouldn't allow it to turn properly. It actually works great with nothing on this particular sized bike it never hits or even comes close to the bsck wheel of the bike. Once you invert the tow bar it keeps it the perfect distance away for this set up. Now if you have a different sized bike and a different manufacturer's pet trailer then I can't promise you that this will work but it should. Just get the quick connect attached and mount it with howe clamps to the front fork.

    I'm at 4500 ft of elevation and my XR150 seems to run great with the stock setup, as far as I can tell, although I'm tempted to try a larger jet. I suspect the elevation actually helps since the air is thinner. It does have the cold start issue, but I've never seen it as really a big issue. It eventually starts and just needs a minute to warm up. I don't ride it in weather colder than 50F or so.

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore Месяц назад

      Yeah everyone is going to have different experiences with these bike's across the country. I would definitely recommend a 38 pilot, because the stock jet is less quality and way less holes and it is so nice no matter what the temperature out it now starts first push of the button with no choke at all. It doesn't die off if you hit the throttle, and you can take off and ride instantly instead of even waiting 1 minute. Which sounds very impatient, but is actually a very nice convince to not have to mess with the choke ever and take off immediately! Do whatever you feel is right for you and your bike.

    How long does your battery last before needing to manually charging the battery?

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore Месяц назад

      I would usually trickle charge it once per week. It depends on the capacity of the battery, but this particular $100 Walmart motorcycle battery will last a few hours or more depending on how many lights are hooked up and if you use the horn often. The horn really drains the battery. I have also hooked up an AC to DC converter off a mini bike flywheel, and connected it to my battery and it will charge it as you ride at high rpms.

      Yes I did to test them out I drill an almost dime size hole, or cut. Then these Bark Busters style hand gaurds screw into the ends and then actually protect your clutch and brake lever. Not like the Honda guards that won't. They were only like $20 off Amazon. They are just a brighter white then the bike to be super picky. But now I have Pro Taper hand grips and they already come with the end ready for these, and you can punch them out or cut out.

I just really wanted my bike to run a tad rich so as to keep the engine a bit cooler and increase the longevity and life of the engine.

      Thanks for sharing your modifications, and yeah it depends on where you're atnin elevation. I live in the highest point in Ohio 1,240 feet or cloee to the highest point. I haven't checked my spark plugs to see how it's been running since the jetting change, but I'm just super glad that I don't ever have to mess with the choke. It now starts first try amd stays running also, and doesn't start to stall when cold too. They had to jet it for EPA reasons or else I don't think this bike would have so many starting issues. Taking out that screen in the air box and the snorkel thing on top seemed to helo it get more air also. I can't wait to get new tires for it and ride more off road! Try the 35/115 sometime. IMO it gives the best torque, throttle response, and no idle issues (cold starts will improve slightly). Fuel economy will go down some.

      I will definitely keep that in mind, and maybe switch to that next tune. I'm just glad it starts first try without any choke at all. But haven't checked the spark plug yet to see how it's been running in the 100 miles since I've done the re jetting. Thanks for the advice!

    So is it a little better top end ? I could tell after you changed the jets it did need more rpm so good call on the idle adjustment . After approximately 1500 miles or before mine broke in probably 15% more power was a happy surprise . I changed my headlight to led with no issue , and most likely less drain and power draw on start- up . Bonus . I am still waiting for the big bore kit from SSShop making it a 222cc. Giving it 18-19 wheel hp , doubling the power and torque . Transforming this bike into and ultra cheap "sleeper" as 200cc. to 250cc. machines are twice the cost . It will be sweet passing all those minimotos , and chase down some 250cc. Please feel free to comment . I have changed the oil plug to magnetic, the foot pegs are a must , added the battery cable . My coffee cup holder ended up working perfectly behind the tool kit on the rack in front of the signal light 👌 . I have picked up a universal wind screen to install yet .

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore 2 месяца назад

      Yeah I can't wait to get my bike fully broken in and that added gain. It accelerates much better now after the jetting change, and the throttle response is much better! But it's been to windy here to be able to tell, but honestly I'd say it actually lowered the top speed. It was struggling to hit 60 but wasn't shuddering. Maybe I just needed a dsy without 30mph winds. But to me it feels better better 0 up to 50.

      Aw, thanks, and I love it when he looks up at me from his sidecar! I actually enjoy taking him out on the E-bike, and not worry about other driver's. I mean i use the road most of the time even though the sidecar and bike just fit on a sidewalk it's too bumpy. But only when barely any traffic is out, and my mirrors really help! So yes, we can cover ground faster on the motorcycle, and have had 3 successful trips but not far. On my own out on ride's, I would say I get pulled in front of, or something dangerous someone else does 1 out of every 2 times out, unfortunately. I like it man. I might in the summer change it up, but I'm definitely happy with the throttle response and acceleration now! I turned the idle screw back up a quarter turn, because it wasn't starting any beter at first. But then after a few trys maybe enough fuel was getting through, because now my bike starts with not chock at all! It hasn't been as cold really sense... overnight it has... but you can tell the difference. Also man my main jet wasn't even really finger tight! So very glad I did it, because it was going to come off soon. And the stock jets a less quality that what I had.

    I've had my xr150l for about 6 months now, put around 2,200 miles on it. I'm a big guy, 6' tall 230lbs. Average top speed is around 55mph as well. I've owned multiple dirtbikes and street bikes before, this is the smallest street legal anything I've owned lol, but it's honestly my favorite overall cuz it can go anywhere, gets good gas milage, and has held up to a beating. Plus I can toss it in my truck and hookup up my camp in trailer for goin on camp trips. Upgrade wise, I've added a quad lock phone mount with wireless charging, wired into the bike so that it only powers up when the bike is on. I upgraded the headlight to a Hikari LED bulb. Mounted a waterproof lockable hard case to the rear rack for storage (Harbor freight version of a pelican case). Upgraded the tires to a more aggressive all terrain. Upgraded mirrors. Upgraded shift lever that folds when hitting stuff. Skid plate. Led turn signals (you need to also upgrade the blink relay to work right with led).

So I bought closer to me, and got it for $3,800 cash out the door after fees and taxes. They had a plastic skid plate on it they wanted $200 for, and I had them take it off. Also I've seen some people say they've spent over 5 thousand. But idk if that's with warranty or not? Because the warranty is like $1,700, or $1,300 and I definitely didn't buy that.

      That's crazy how different the prices can be across the country, and in others. Here in Ohio, they had a bunch at my local dealership, and that's why I decided at the time to rey and wait for a 24 model for only $128 more. But told them if they get ne to $3,800 out the door I'd buy a 23 model that they still had plenty of. But had them take off a plastic skid plate they wanted $200 for. And also some people get quoted the warranty or service plan too, and it's like $1,700. So some people don't realize the warranty is separate, and can take off and don't look through the whole quote and realize. It came to the US finally after a bunch of little EPA changes, to be the 2nd cheapest production bike in the US. I like it, and it's a nice bike but they should've brought an XR250L to market here, because this bike is too underpowered. Realistically I don't even like going 55 on it and ride close to traffic. If you hit a decent hill it won't even hardly hit 50.

  • @ytr8989
    @ytr8989 3 месяца назад

    The 2024 comes in June, but the same except a $100 increase in MSRP. It’s a nice camp bike or play bike, but if was serious they’d make the XR250l for the USA. You need to have some power, otherwise you have to move to the side of the highway or risk getting run over. Most drivers are decent, but a few people they will run right into you.

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore 3 месяца назад

      I completely agree. I'm waiting for that extra power to come after the break in of the engine. Lol It is very underpowered, and very windy and sketchy riding over 55 in my opinion. But yes it is a great little cheap bike. And I got it for in town use, amd trails. But I don't have a hitch and trailer yet... so it is sketchy getting to places. Yes some people have stayed a very good distance behind as I go about 50 in a 55. Lol it was windy. And then some driver's were right up my a$$ and dangerously close. I heard the 24 had adjustable preload front forks or something, so that's why I was waiting... but glad I got it while I could and I appreciate what i have. I never in my life thought I could buy a brand new vehicle from a dealership. Yes it's like the 2nd cheapest bike in the US... but still it feels great to have something no one else has owned. Thanks for the nice comment, and thanks for watching! Take care!

    THANK YOU for the vid!! (As a non-rider considering my very first bike, your vid is a great help). One point of interest though, I've already watched "a few" vids on the XR150L, and your idle speed seems WAY HIGH. Is the choke partly on?

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore 3 месяца назад

      The idle has since been adjusted a full turn and a half, so the dealership probably turned it up because I'm in Ohio and it's cold. They really need rejetted to start better, or else you need throttle and full choke... then half choke will still die unless you give a little throttle until it's warm enough. Very cold blooded little bike, but once warmed up it's fine. Thanks for watching.

    When should you change the break in oil

    • @EbikesandMore
      @EbikesandMore 3 месяца назад

      Per the manual the first oil change should be at 600 miles or like a month of owning the bike. I personally changed mine around 200 miles, because I have heard of the very poor quality and how watery the factory oil is. So I don't believe they fill these cheap bike's with an expensive break in oil in Mexico at the factory... so on my personal bike I decided to change it out early for better. Also wanted to get a magnetic drain plug in while it was breaking in, so that some metal if in the engine would hopefully get stuck on the magnetic drain plug instead of continuously running through the engine. So this is not showing per the manual, but just what I chose to do on my bike. Thanks for watching!
