Pottstown Firebirds Part 1 Documentary Football
Loved the video. Reminds me of me. Would of should of could of. I played lots of sports and thre are good memories 😢
Disciple of the 25 yard out! King Corcoran
Where can i get the doc at
This brings back so many memories of growing up in Pottstown at that time. I can remember listening to the game reply Sunday's on WPAZ radio.
Was This a simi pro football team in PA back in the 70s?
Pro team, and 1968-70 from the ACFL league
@@pottstownfirebirds7138 What ever happened to that team and the league?
@@nickk7425 folded for lack of funds and the nfl teams lacking support to the league, i wrote a book about them its on ebay called the timeless victors
This is when NFL Films was at the top of its game. They captured some magical moments in history throughout their existence. Who would’ve thought a little minor league football team in Pottstown, PA would be one of their best but it truly is a wonderful documentary.
21:23 "That is pathetic, this is ridicuouuuuuuus" EPIC!
I saw this film back in 1972. When I was 11yrs old.
Reading forgettables now. By the way, does anybody know what the name of that music that plays at 5:40-654 is called
I’m wondering the same thing. I love that jam
Corcoran on this car phone. 1970's no phone towers. Because, no cell phones. Especially driving hundreds of miles to games. Who is he talking to? I say no one. Hes putting on a show for the camera. Mike Connors character of "Mannix" on the TV show of the same name had a car phone. The phone wasnt operational. First, it was very expensive to do so. Second, how would you hook it up? Corcoran? Insuferable. I watched this when it first aired before the Super bowl.
They had phones already at that time, refer to weburbanist.com/2012/09/18/remember-millions-of-mobile-phones-in-the-1960s-you-should/ but it is to be believed that his wasnt connected nor worked
LONG LIVE THE KING
Joe Blake the poet
There is an episode of the Rockford Files featuring Rob Reiner as a QB named King!
It was called the no cut contract episode and yes inspired by king corcoran the firebirds QB, about a minor league player, long day today forgot about that…
@@pottstownfirebirds7138 Rob Reiner??? How much did his dad Carl grease the producers to get him that role? Rob Reiner as a QB makes about as much sense as Pee Wee Herman alongside the "Hanson Brothers" in Slapshot . . .
Growing up in Pottstown back then this brings back so many memories. The book The Forgettables is a better take on this team in 1970.
That book should have been called The Unforgettables because that was only the first book written about The Firebirds , The second book was The Timeless Victors so The Firebirds are anything but forgettable
The Eagles should go back to the kelly green.
They ware the Kelly green from time to time they did last year.
Preston Day is the man💯💯💯❤️❤️❤️❤️
Was king from Jersey City NJ ?
Yes he was
@@pottstownfirebirds7138 played with a Kid in HS Sean Corcoran from Jersey city NJ exact same walk talk attitude I’m convinced it’s his Kid some how. This kid graduated HS in 1989.
@@dannysavagedraftguru thats amazing, but pure coincidence, but i guess that Sean carry that last name well despite not being related…
absolutely my favorite NFL films feature - certainly not forgotten
Why are they playing the fight songs of CFL Teams????
Barry Hackenberg played with the Firebirds he was a school teacher at Daniel Boone High School he was my teacher, he also coached football there. He is the grandfather of Christian Hackenberg. Bob Tucker's wife taught there too I had her too but she left when he went to the Giants.
I'm gonna make it someday, I'm gonna make some way ,I'm gonna get there if I can, Gonna get me somethin goin, Gonna make a great big showin, Gonna make it, Gonna get there if i can. Next year this time I'll be sitting right here in style, Bring on your guy and I'll leave him behind me more than a mile. I'm gonna make it someday, I'm gonna make some way ,I'm gonna get there if I can, Gonna get me somethin goin, Gonna make a great big showin, Gonna make it, Gonna get there if i can.
Great theme song!!!
Saw him play in Providence in ACFL. He could throw the football. Looked like an NFL'er
The King!!
Thanks can't wait to get this my friend bill Murphy was roommate's with the king when he played on the pats
Amazing, feel free to order it if you havent done so already!
I don't know if Jay Acton is still alive but he may want to change the title of his book to The Unforgettables because in Pottstown and many circles of Football Enthusiasts The Firebirds are anything but forgotten, In fact The second book that was written about them The Timeless Victors is proof of that.
Agree and love that comment!
Jay Acton was my father's literary agent and sold his book, "Down and Dirty. The Life and Crimes of Oklahoma Football." Don't know what happened to him.
Watched the King in the WFL! The dude had one hell of an arm.
Amazing arm matching his amazing personality haha

Hey Leo, how yah doin' man? I remember a Friday night in August 1969, a friend of mine, Louie Query & I, were on South Hanover St. starting a Hitch-hike trip to wildwood NJ via 100 south to Chester for the ferry to south Jersey. You picked us up, in a VW (going that way) &, took us all the way to Chester (also bought us a 6 pack for the excursion, thanks man).
I tried, for years, to get this and the previous documentary from NFL Films with no luck. I was, however, able to get a copy of The Forgettables and have read it several times!
Check the website pottstownfirebirds.org or amazon i believe this is the dvd with both parts to it... www.amazon.com/NFL-Films-Legends-Autumn-America/dp/B000Z7OTFU/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=nfl+films+legends+of+autumn&qid=1607353149&sprefix=nfl+films+legends+of+au&sr=8-6 Also check the website as theres a new book out called the timeless victors about the team
Again, Jay Acton should have changed the title to The Unforgettables
Oh my God! I saw this once on the NFL Network and bought The Forgettables because of it! Thank you so much for putting this up!
My pleasure and yes truly fascinating, if you want to know more theres a website called pottstownfirebirds.org with a hoodie and a new book out...
This would make a GREAT movie.
Absolutely would be nice if someone picked up my book and made this into a movie...
Yep and my cast would be John Goodman as Dave DeFilippo LL Cool J as Joe Blake Charlie Sheen as "King" Corcoran Clay Matthews as Bill Stetz Omar Epps as John Land

Long live the king
I would of loved to party with the King in Vegas. Just one night I would of settled for the residual scally wags. Nevertheless this organization was full of characters from the top down.
The King looks like Dick Vermeil when he is walking in that red jacket. I love money and like playing football It’s all about being the King!
This is funny, Corcoran thinks he is a big deal. In Pottstown.
He was good enough but he prefer to be a king in semi pro than a backup in the nfl.
as opposed to garrison 68 who is a big deal....um, where? no where. not even a big enough deal to capitalize his own name lol
The King was a big deal in Pottstown.
@@BkismNJ He played some in the WFL.
He had also appeared in a couple of games with the Patriots in 1968.
This is awesome..thank you
