do yo think houdini will replace maya in the future in terms of animation and rigging. not talking pipelines.
@@vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv0 I think the software is BEYOND capable of it, BUT animation software in studios leans towards the animators themselves, and unfortunately the best animators in the industry all use Maya and are COMFORTABLE with Maya and I don’t see them switching to Houdini anytime soon. If the younger artists in the scene continue to use Houdini and get better at it I could easily see Houdini becoming a competitive software for animation in 10-20 or so years (Houdini IS the better software it’s just a matter of professionals)
@@vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv0 also on top of that might I just add, being a professional with KineFX and animation in Houdini can be EXTREMELY lucrative, it isn’t the leading animation software clearly but I have a plethora of friends making well into 6 figures being a FX generalist that knows how to use KineFX well

any plans to update this video with current redshift settings and lighting? Settings are different in your scene file than current versions.
do you have a demo of rigging a mocap skeleton to a character at t-pose? I'm looking through your tutorials and I don't see that. SOmething about using the (re)map points sop?

Very cool setup and really helpful info. I'm wondering since you gave the link to the artstation model above, that's more than fair to give the creator $10 for the base rig there... why not just share the hip file without the base rig ? if someone, like myself, for example , is keen to follow along, we can purchase the model from from the creator and understand your tutorial in a deeper way. (a really great series thank you so much ).

hi. so I mistakenly changed the code in my kineFX json file. can you share a default or correct one? here's what mine looks like now. { "hpath" : "D:/Caches/Houdini/Houdini Plugins/kinefx" } it shows up in the Shelf but no tools in the shelf, just an empty shelf

How do you parent the bones to the main rig.
This is a super helpful video and I'd love to see and learn more about this. We're in preproduction for an RPG game and my current task is to get one "hero" character up to production standards and figure out our pipeline and workflow, and this has been a considerable challenge. I'm curious if there are any automated/AI blendshape creation tools for faces we might use on our face meshes or even autorig tools for faces in Houdini that could give us a kickstart and point of reference to learn more from?
hey great video. Did anything changed in the houdini 20 version ? the rig you made, doesnt seem to work like it should . The controllers are not visible (at least for me)? same when i try to implement the python kinefx__rig_pose.py on my rig, the script it doesn't seem to work like for you. Again the videos are great, love it :)

As far as I understand APEX is just a way of controlling Houdini KineFx nodes, watched the masterclass on it and it appeared to almost be like a python wrapper. Houdini is almost always compatible with itself across contexts so I’m sure it’s applicable. However, at my studio we are still working in 19.5 and I’ve been extremelyyyy busy there since h20 released so truth be told I haven’t even gotten the chance to dive into apex yet.

super great tuts man! Do you have any exp with mocap cleaning? I'm having trouble with the whole rig floating sometimes is there a solution for that in houdini?
Yeah! I actually have a biggggg 2 hour long video on something somewhat similar rn but I didn’t have time to finish it and I definitely won’t anytime soon but it is like 99% of the way there and more so just covers workflows. In it I use a humanoid animation to driver a velociraptor animation with absolutely zero key frames. drive.google.com/file/d/18g0xmiHhTz40Z_dFBrvgsTP-aKLg7PGa/view?usp=drivesdk Here is the links to the quick edit I did today of it (the tut is months old but it takes forever to cut things up) it does kinda just end on some secondary motion stuff but it’s 90% of the way finished.
That tutorial is more so geared towards animation transfer which is very similar to the mocap process, but KineFx was designed with mocap cleanup as the main intent tbh. It has definitely grown far beyond that but there are plenty of incredible mocap tools in the KineFx toolset!

I've been going through this tutorial and I am amazed at all to tips and workflows that are in this. It is two years old at this point and I am wondering if there are any updates to this workflow in H20? Would you do it the same now? Or are there new nodes in H20 that simplify or change this workflow at all? Thanks so much for your great tutorials!

Love the examples! I'm wondering though - how would you for instance no animate the mouth of your character that is attached through these motion clips? Where would you add in the bones /morphs to control that and it would still update with other FBX animamtions? Thanks!
For those who may wonder, the updated skeleton blend allows you to set up all the blends for the same body part like it is merged. So curled, flex, splayed in and out can all be set to one skeleton blendand you only need one for each part you are blending.
