Why I Hate Modern Art

This is a crappy video essay for my art history class. 📃Works Cited: O’Connor, Francis Valentine. “Jackson Pollock | Biography & Facts.” Encyclopedia Britannica, 7 Aug. 2020, www.britannica.com/biography/Jackson-Pollock. “The Unveiling of Mark Rothko's No. 16 in Ottawa.” CBC, 2018, www.cbc.ca/archives/the-unveiling-of-mark-rothko-s-no-16-in-ottawa-1.4748480. Because ai is not photo bashing. Go study about it then talk.
I don’t see a problem with making art more accessible to the masses. I think if u were just critiquing abstract expressionism in particular due to the fact that it conveys nothing then you would be right.
"I don't like AI art" I agree
I myself am an emerging artist, and my thoughts are this: "If I need to read a plaque to understand that something is a piece of art, then it isnt art. Period." (I went to a modern art mseum once, and it's only because of the tour guide that I found out one of the art pieces was a curtain made out of floor sheets covered in paint)
This is a weak argument. Nobody has ever been able to reproduce Pollack. Pollack must be seen in person to be appreciated. Also, Picasso wasn’t some untrained idiot. Picasso was Spain’s most revered artist. If it’s so easy, why aren’t there more successful modern artists? This video demonstrates a basic lack of understanding of what makes art great.
I simply dislike it because it takes no skill and yet is overpriced. I’m allowed to be angy skilled art isn’t more popular than this meaningless crap.
RUclips IS SAVING OUR ATTENTION SPANS
"Wood fired pizza?! How's pizza gonna get a job now?"
the art community in general just has this annoying, snobby, pretentions attitude and i don't fw it so i usually just drop some drawings every now and then and not talk to anyone very much
You do know there are paintings that actually look good and can be seen for free on the internet right?
Annnnnd here come the comments calling us fascist even tho simply asking for standards in art is just the bare minimum we should ask of our culture…….
You don't know what you're talking about do you?
I don’t want my art to look like a rainbow threw up on it
Most people who hate it are just salty that they can't do better
Abstract art is basically just pissing on a piece of paper then selling it for thousands of dollars
Modern art is trying to rob us
1:32 I don't like the color choice though.
I personally dislike Dada movement because they gave us a generation of posers. Though I do agree with your statement that some works of art that arguably have more effort in their constructions should be made to account.
This type of "art" is based in money laundering and narcissism, it's sad because there's plenty of beautiful contemporary art
Modern Japanese Artists on the other hand are walking to the opposite direction
Modern art is great to create bathroom curtains.
2:31 Called it! Knew it kt was so absurdly high lol
1:08 At first I thought it was somehow a political artwork depicting barbed wires lol. I guess it goes to show how meaningless the art piece was if I was so off about it's meaning. It reminds me of FNAF franchise, it has such vague plot and lore hints that 10 people will have 20 interpretations of it, and that's just not art in my opinion 😢
You're the first person actually talking about modern art tgank you so much, I've been searching and mostly describe as modern what is contemporary
Personally I don't like so called modern art for different reason. It Is Lazy. Being easy isn't a problem, but the fact that all you have to do is swing a paint bucket or flick a brush is the problem in my opinion. If you want to do this style of "art" then go for it, I can see how it could be quite fun to make, but to treat it as if they are masterpieces is absurd
your critique of the art market and essentially capitalism is on point for me. however by the end of the video you claim modern works such as Rothko's or Pollock's have no effort put into them whatsoever, and that little to no technical efficiency is needed to produce such works. i can't even begin to explain how ridiculously difficult it is for colours to lay flat on a surface or even to get a colour mixing the shade you want it to be. or even claim that action painting is meaningless because it's purely conceptual. if you think abstract art is devoided of meaning then i don't think you'll be able to appreciate anything that happened before the impresionists came into the scene.
If you want good abstract art, go see Touhou 1 Backgrounds
you say it yourself that the reason to be upset is the sales and commodification of art. with that said, why do you conclude its the fault of the art, rather than the systems that commodify it? the arts value and worth stands on its own regardless of the price tacked onto it by rich pricks.
You're telling me a ginger bred this man?
Lol
Wood fired pizza?! How's pizza gonna get a job now?
Here i see all these morons finding new ways to blame capitalism for things...as if capitalism is the only system run on power (money is a conduit for power, as is social clout...which ironically is the main currency of socialism.). All systems driven solely by power are cursed to go down the same path, elitism, nepotism and degeneracy in the place of virtue, meaning and truth. The fools who cry "muh capitalism" are usually too inbred with their own emotions and in their own limited and backwards socialist philosophy, fail to understand the root of capitalism's issues is not just the system but is a core feature of the democratic family of systems, meaning capitalism, facism, socialism and communism all are the children of this and all share the same issue. The communists mind is rotted with the broken understanding, for in their minds power is the sole virtue and the only legitimate core of any society. It is this sickness that drives all their ideas. Modern art was their invention, as is everything post-modernist. Their desire to tear down the old because they refuse to see merit in their ancestors, the only thing i can say of the typical "muh anti-capitalist" is that they are certainly no better than the people they hate, infact i would rather trust the capitalist because atleast they are consistent.
I know what you mean. If I dripped paint on a canvas, it wouldn't look too different. Yes, I like Pollock's #5. It's probably because I like camouflage and camouflage is applied without much thought to composition and balance. I have no artistic talent whatsoever but I think I can produce modern art.
I think this person might be retarded.
Expressionism. So... What does it express? Me Okay, what does it express about you?
The last time they disliked modern art ww2 happened
What do you mean that guy didn’t make “modern art” 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Maybe because you're still butthurt that your mother made you call all her johns "Uncle"?
"Made into a commodity" is commodified and commodification, not "commododized" nor "comodidization".
its not even that i dont like modern or abstract art any new art is technicaly modern art. and abstract art isent nesesarely bad i am a big fan of the "a stary night" painting and it has tons of abstract elements i dont like paintings that is just paint spilled on to a canvass but no hate if you like that but its just definatly not my style. but lets be honest these paintings selling for 100.000.000$ is insane wen literaly anyone can make a painting in that style also the amount of people jumping straight to caling this guy a fasist simply for not liking modetn art is disapointing yeah shure hitlet didrent like modetn art but if agreing with hitler on one thing is all it takes to makes you a fasist most people ar fasists
very well put video, 100 percent agreed
I personally think that if there are 37.9 million people living in poverty in the USA alone and yet a banana taped to a wall gets sold for 6 million bucks there's something wrong with the society
The real question is why do people buy these?
Art needs context. A lot of the modern art mentioned wasn’t given its context. Art isn’t just for looking pretty
Not to sound like artistically arrogant, but is not a lot of the fun finding meaning in abstract art yourself? A lot of the time these artworks have a subject or plan to them, even if it is hard to see, but it is not apparent what it means. I always find that is what I like about modern art, especially with how it relishes in the often quite absurd. Also like a lot of abstract art painting at museums do have like these information stands next to the painting.
@ oh of course. But take Mark Rothko for example. His last painting “black on gray” isn’t exactly groundbreaking itself. I mean I like it, but others might not. It’s after knowing he committed suicide soon after painting it that gives it that extra impact. I see hundreds of of modern art bashing videos that will see something like “Merlin Carpenter” and instantly go “this is stupid! It’s just boxes!” But have ignored the context and the fact that the boxes are filling an entire Synagogue. I totally agree with you though. I just think Pollock’s “after many drinks” hits a lot harder when you learn it’s a painting of hell
Now the 6.2Mio us dollar banana....
In most museums there are some people who show you around and talk about its content Not modern art museums tho, there is nothing to talk about except how bad and indescribably expensive it is
You want another Hitler situation?
Oh because EVERY bad artist is going to become a mass murderer
this video is infuriatingly stupid and a massive waste of time. Your entire point boils down to "modern art shouldn't get to be seen as prestigious because it's easy." So what if modern abstract pieces make a lot of money? you fail to actually prove how this has damaged modern art as a whole, a few paintings getting passed around by the ultra rich doesnt change anything about the artworks themselves, and it says absolutely nothing about the other, completely unrelated art pieces. You don't hate modern art, you hate the ultra wealthy and how they commoditize art, something you personally admit is not exclusive to modern art, i guess all classical renaissance art is also bad and meaningless because rich dipshits only see monetary value in it. God this video is so fucking pretentious and empty.
I fucking hate modern art, I know it's supposed to be symbolic but alot of old art had the same ability to be symbolic but still look good and not like what a toddler would draw at daycare (I'm not shaming people who make it or like it so I hope you don't get that impression)
Modern art makes me think of "name one thing in this picture"
26:55 the museum doesn't care about how you arrived at your final product. whether it's digital or not. as long as you don't plagiarize.
Abstract expressionism is one of the most complex and difficult styles of the 20th century...
