Welcome! This is a brief video on the “Zippo” or (F) model of the Monitors(Modified LCM6). We will discuss the reasons to why the Zippo was needed in the Vietnam War, as well as some statistics about it! It’s a pretty neat, and I’d say iconic boat. War Stories: U.S. Coast Guard holding their own in Vietnam
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.Год назад
How's it going! Welcome back to another video! This one is a new take on history by this channel, and that is covering an incident that occurred in Vietnam, on June 20th, 1966. Where the often forgotten U.S. Coast Guard was patrolling the waters in support of Operation Market Time, and of course things did not go their way. I may be switching over my videos to half stories, and half covering th...

U.S. Depth Charges [ WWII Anti-Submarine Weaponry]
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.Год назад
Howdy Y'all! Everyone has seen the cliché submarine scenes, where a sweaty crew is anxiously awaiting something to happen. Then a dramatic thud is heard, that is the topic of todays video. Depth Charges! Depth Charges are essentially a very primitive way to combat the undersea threats. They used hydrostatic fuses, or magnetic ones. Deployed by rack/rails behind a vessel, or fired from a Y or K ...
The Hedgehog [ U.S. WWII Anti-Submarine Weaponry]
Просмотров 10 тыс.Год назад
Howdy Y'all! In the second world war, one of the most terrifying things an allied sailor could have witnessed was the tale-tale signs that an enemy submarine was lurking nearby. This video will cover the famous anti-submarine projector, MK10, also known as the hedgehog. Originally, I intended to cover a vast array of anti-submarine warfare weapons. But I found them to be a lot more in depth tha...
The Momsen Lung: WW2 Survival Equipment
Просмотров 817Год назад
How's it going! The Momsen Lung was apart of a new era of technological improvements in Submarine Warfare. Although our allies may have had similar devices at the time, this was a true American take on the problem! It was a early rebreather that allowed the user to buy enough time to reach the surface. It recycled their own breath, and filtered out the carbon dioxide that they put out. It was h...
LVT(A): The Amphibious Fire Support Vehicle of WW2

Howdy! Welcome back to another video, this one is on the legendary LVT(A) variants. These models quickly evolved into amphibious fire support vehicles to help the allies land on countless beaches in order to secure the objectives at hand. The previous video, we discussed the cargo/transport models. So this is the follow up to that one! I apologize for the slow down in uploads, I have been in th...

Howdy, In this video we will be discussing American Flamethrowers in the Second World War. Ranging from experiment models, until end of the war production models. M3 GREASE GUN: America's cheap solution

Howdy! This video is about the M3/M3A1 Grease gun. This was the U.S. Army’s attempt at a cost effective small arm. It was effective in becoming a tool for any Soldier or Marine for many decades to come. As always I strive for historical accuracy, if you see any issues or errors ...

SKS PART ONE: HISTORY, OVERVIEW, & VARIANTS
I was in the Navy several years after Vietnam was over but I knew and served with several people that served on river boats in Vietnam. They had some crazy sea stories. One was related to the Zippo Boats....I did not know or could not remember that they were called zippo boats.
Except it was british
Needs mention of Goodeve and Dept of Miscellaneous Weapons Development.
Well done!!
Thank you very much!
Very concise video with lots of interesting information.
The Graham Brothers built many of the LVTs.
Interesting. Depth charges had an 80:1 success rate but hedgehogs a 5:1. But hedgehogs shot 24 bomblets at once, making it a 120:1 success rate. Hedgehog bomblets could rain on a target. Depth charges could not.
2:40 one grenade explodes - is this real footage of hitting a U-Boot?
What branch are you in?
Great video! Although it doesn’t detract from your narration, it’s “Unit Commendation,” not “unit accommodation.”
i thought they were called screaming mimis. never heard it called "moaning minnie" before
I saw some British veterans from D-day being interviewed and they called this moaning Minnie.
The last US war where the Journalists had souls.
Hard to belive all this crap happened unreal.
Semper Paratus I was there in Div. 11 On the repair force and then served on the CGC Point Garnet 82310 in 67 and 68 great coverage. MKC David L. Marshall
Thank you for your service!
Your armament spec's are flawed. RONONE 82' WPB's carried the mk.2 coaxial 81 mortar/.50 caliber BMG mount forward. This was weapon was invented by a Coast Guard Gunnery CPO.
Thank you, I appreciate that information! I added to my notes for this one.
@DimplesYT You are most welcome, Sir. I make 1/700 and 1/350 scale model kits of the USCG Point class WPB's from blueprints. I came to know them quite well.
MK 6 and Mk 9 were the only ones to see wide spread use, the others were basically trials that didn't pan out. No navy in WW2 had a reliable magnetic fuse.
Napalm and the US military during the 60s-70s are more inseparable than Beavis and Butthead

Thank you
Welcome! Thank you for watching
PO... ET3... USCG... used to just say CG. 😂 Keep videos like these coming Mate! My Father was Air Force. He did 2 tours "In Country". Dad was instrumental in me becoming a Coastie and not a Marine. My Boot Camp Company Commander (Filipino) hated Charlie and SWORE we would end up going back... that was 1978. Glad he was wrong... but He made sure his Coasties were lean, mean, ready and hungry to go back if called upon.
Thank you for your service! I appreciate it!, I've had a couple things pop up in real life, but I plan on getting back into it with the new year!
nice vid!
Thank you for watching!
Awesome. My grandpa was a commander of an LVT (A)5 in the Korean War. I have a pic of him with his crew beside it.
Interesting video. Thanks!
Thank you! Have a good one!
Plus depth charges could only be used at high speed unless you wanted to blow off your stern! 20% hit rate is huge!
That is also true, and often overlooked!
Has a strange head like an R-4 droid from star wars
I never noticed that before, but I do kinda see it now
😊
Have a good one!
Great vid
Thank you sir!
I love this sub so much, i bought one made by Umarex, that shots bb's.. @465fps, fully auto, all steel, It is an exact replica. I LOVE it. I have a video of me shooting it on my page.
Awesome! I had one by ICS for awhile, until I traded it for a paintball marker. Absolutely loved my Vietnam era set up with it, was blast to use.
I love LVT tank❤️❤️❤️
It is swell! Have a good one!
Not only have I never heard of something like this used with submarine crews, your previous video was pretty insightful because I never new what kind of burn time military-grade flamethrowers had.🤯
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
I think I've watched five videos by now so I figured I'd leave a comment, I'm definitely enjoying the classic History channel feel to everything. Keep up the good work.
Thank you! I really appreciate it, I was kind of inspired by the old school history channel shows from awhile back.
I’ve never heard of this device. Always cool learning something you thought you knew so much about. Sad there is only one comment on this video.
I appreciate it! You should look into the Rescue Bouys, or the Davis Submerged Escape Apparatus. Those are similar/obscure ww2 rescue equipment!
More factual footage, less introduction and exit chatter, and you might go places here. I've subscribed, so let's see what you got.
Thank you, I appreciate the feedback!
Cant even hear the weapon over your nauseating voice.

The M-5 A1 at the start of the video. Is one of my units M-5's. 14th armored recreations out of Shepherdsville K.y.
That’s awesome, do y’all travel for events? I just left KY for the east coast.
Ok
What’s up, how are you doing man!
My uncle Leo Piersall served aboard PT532 in the Pacific. In April 1943 radar was being installed on one out of four to six boats. By the time PT532 launched in October 1943 all boats were getting 'radio sets'. This greatly aided navigation as many were lost on reefs. In about November 1944, for the Borneo campaign they were outfitted with 5" rockets shot out of a 4x4 set of launch tubes. This gave these boats the punch they previously lacked. They were not too bad to reload either. Rocket equipped PT boats are "Devil boats". A destroyer with a five inch gun can shoot six or eight miles probably and these rockets are only good for a mile and a quarter. Since night action happened at closer distances these worked well. Two of the five boats in PT532's squad had extra guns. The Captain's boat had a 37 mm cannon from an army airplane. This was mounted up front for armored barges. Once the 20 mm became available, the slower rate of fire 37 mm were removed from Army planes. That is how these guns became available. Another boat had an English anti-armor recoilless rifle to help out with armored barges. The boats were also outfitted with a CO2 fire suppression system. They lost a lot of boats and men, it was hazardous duty.
Meh that SMG is still pretty trashy not reliable compare to the Thompson & the Grease Gun...
You're completely right. I do think the Reising was one of the first widespread adoptions of the closed bolt mechanism in a submachine gun. I believe that's why it failed as it was too complex for the environment it would be used in. Unlike the tried and tested grease gun/tommy.
@@DimplesYT yep though the Thompson also jammed too at a less frequent level
It really isn't trashy at all, just can't stand the dirt. It is a much more accurate and effective weapon than the Thompson, whose only advantage is resistance to dirt and a lower price.
I find this absolute intimidating. How are you using the most powerful and most destructive element out of all four and use it as a weapon to burn enemies into a crisp.
I was in tanks in the 80's & 90's had a M-3A1 if they were for sale I would by one, if they do become for sale in the future I would buy one!😙
I wish I could get my hands on one as well!
Awsome boats, have a video, They were Expendable John Wayne, Forest Tucker, Elvis Presley. When they took MacArthur off the Philippines island.
Elvis was not in the movie
Made by Guide lamp div. Of GMC. And Ithica Gun Co. in New York.
Going to be upgrading my microphone in the coming weeks, current one is the old snowball and it’s not sounding how I would like it to. Appreciate y’all!
Favorite BBQ
I could've bought an M3 from J. Curtis Earl in Arizona for $600 back in the late '90s. Wish I had!
inflation....cost 15 to make...lol
I believe 110k were produced. Had the chance to handle one. Weighs about the same as the m1 garand. But a price tag of 5000 was a hard pass
, I read the correct number to be somewhere fewer than 22.000.
Great video! Keep the good work!
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
When I was in I was given a M 3 a1 an yes I was a tanker M60a3 back in the 80's loved mine
