How (and WHY) to Buy Used Camera Gear For Your Church Livestream | LIVE DEMO
ProPresenter has gotten so bloated. I just updated for the year so I will check this out the rest of the year.
I can confirm this thing is awesome, but I have, what I believe, is a more important question: Your hoodie, I really like the message it conveys. Where can I see about purchasing one please?
Oh man, it was a limited time run for our church, impossible to get now I'm afraid. But I'm glad you like it!
Can I send a customized information trough stage ??? For example an information for the preacher or something
What PLA did you use bc some could break if hanged or when you screw it. it would crack
I haven't had any problems with it!
For a very small church is there any reason to get the XR 18 over the 16?
More flexibility with the inputs! You get 16 combo jacks vs just 8 combos and 8 quarter inches. Also more aux sends
It has served me well for a long time but you must add a better router or you will have issues.
For sure!
Thank you so much! I am on the digital team at my church, and I was interested in making one as well!
“Midas” preamps 😂 Also contains the worst WiFi chip in a digital mixer period.
I mean, they're marketed as Midas designed. And that's fair, but I wouldn't use a built-in router on any digital mixer if I can help it anyway!
@@budget-church-livestreaming My boss knows a few of the engineers at Midas and they said when Behringer took over they essentially started marketing Behringer Pre's as "Midas Designed" but they're not the quality that Midas is known for. I've owned the XR18 and it's certainly not junk, but if you've ever used true Midas Preamps you'll definitely be able to tell the difference. That being said, for the money this thing is hard to beat (though the recent drop in price on the X32 Rack makes that a lot more enticing)
@@aaron_phillips that's interesting context. And yeah, I think for the market it's serving, it's great. The x32 rack is enticing, but I feel like it's not as standalone portable as this is meant to be. Definitely a lot of overlap though, and obviously more room to grow with the x32. All about getting the right tool for the job
@ absolutely! :)
I use it since 2017. Always worked like a charm
does it have projector edge blending capability?
How to stream with free show ?
I don't think it's got that capability on its own.
Add a few bucks and get the equivavlent Midas MR18 instead. That one has the same preamps and converters as the ones in Midas M32-series, Midas DL stageboxes and the more recent Behringer Wing-series mixers. Components are significantly improvement over what you find in the older Behringer stuff (X32/XR-series). Another compact/portable alternative I would choose over Behringer XR is the Allen&Heath CQ-series.
Yeah those are all great options too!
How would this work on a 2 M/E ATEM switcher? Do the tallies only follow a single M/E?
Yeah by default only the first m/e outputs the tally information. That miiiight be customizable but honestly I'm not sure
Old still cost a lot
Age doesn't matter too much if it's getting the job done!
Correction, It has 16 Designed by Midas inputs. It is not the same as the Midas inputs. Please keep this in mind when comparing the Midas version and the lower cost Behringer version. It is even silk-screened on the face, "Designed by Midas" on the front. However the Behringer version with lower cost components is still a respectable mixer. The components such as capacitors and ADC parts are not the same between the two brands.
Good distinction!
Funny enough the Midas version heats up real bad and I recommend hooking up and additional fan to the air intake.
If they are designed by Midas, they are midas!!!!. There are just not Pro-series Preamps.... !
@@hervechrissindayigaya5159 About the same as a designed by Rolls Royce, built by GM and a built by Rolls Royce car. The design is the same, but the materials are different. Example, you can actually read. The input jacks on the mixer. One has genuine Neutrik jacks. The other is built with an off brand. Yes, both have XLR jacks, but not the same ones. What logo is on your mixer's XLR jacks. Bet you don't find the Neutrik Neutrik. Another difference is in the faders. the Behringer is a PCB with faders on the surface. Any dirt, grime, and spills fall into the fader. On the Midas, the channel strips are on edge, with the faders on their side, so any spills fall past the fader and not into it. There is a reason, I bought a Midas console instead of a Behringer. Both have a motorized fader, but they are not interchangable as they are not the same part.
They are actually EXACTLY the same preamp.... We did some A/B testing with both XR18 and MR18 and the one difference we found was a hotter output signal in the MR18.. About 8 dB louder signal, but on the OUTPUTS. Splitting the exact same signal into 2, putting them both into a channel from each mixer and recording in a daw resulted in exactly the same result.... However, when taking the signal from their outputs into an interface, then we could see a difference, basically in the volume...
Impressive tutorial! For me it is overwhelming but it its exiting as well. Thanks a lot for your video. I'll keep watching.
Oh yeah, it can be a lot, but it's super powerful!
I've used these mixers quite a bit, at summer camps, for our church rehearsals. Very flexible mixer. Although don't expect a reliable signal from the integrated router, I had constant dropouts when using it. It's also got alot of the same effects as the big boards really nice mixer. There is some noise on the inputs and outputs and it's to be expected from behringer.
Yeah, I definitely recommend using a separate network
I own one and never drops dj and live music
Big fan of Allen Heath CQ18t and CQ20B.
Yeah those seem awesome too!
Get a black magic ultra studio monitor 3g they’re fairly inexpensive but they make pro presenter outputs so much better. They’re actual video output cards.
Yeah, I know of em. Honestly the biggest thing is that we're constantly moving this setup and it's one more thing to lug around. Things have been working fine though!
The main problem I have with Behringer’s series of mixers is the iPad software. It’s buggy, non intuitive, and laggy. I’ve tried most of them at this point, and the one that is far above all of them is Mackie’s master fader. Solid, easy to use, intuitive, the best one I’ve used.
Oh interesting, I haven't really had those same issues. But I'm glad you've found one that works for you!
I have never really been a fan of the modern Midas preamps. I think they sound flat and thin compared to other mixers in the same range. I prefer the Presonus Xmax preamps in the Studiolive rack mixers.
Another great option!
I would advise you the Sound craft ui16 or zu 24. They are unbelievably good for the price, and you could give the iPad everyone to mix as it's very intuitive and fast and still you can do everything you need on that small thing. I would prefer the Soundcraft over the Behringer.
We've been real happy with this one, but I'm sure the soundcraft is awesome too!
Great Video! There's a reason this is consistently the top digital mixer on Thomann. I've got the XR18 in a 4U rack with a HA8000 headphone amp and a Furman M-10x E power conditioner. I also have 2 P16's to expand the mixes for band if I require. The reason I went with the HA8000 was so I wouldn't have to deal with batteries and could use either headphone extension cables or use the PM1 beltpacks. I then also mounted; a USB extender in the rack so I could send the USB out over 30m via Cat6 and 2 Cat Snakes so I could send 4 channels and return 4 channels (send: PC L&R, Talkback, Spare, Return: Phones L&R, Aux 5&6 for broadcast mix). I then have a 4 way Cat6 reel (using Expandable Braided Sleeving) for; the 2 Cat Snake Feeds, the USB extender and the "Remote" out for connecting to a router for control via a PC via X-Edit or the X-Air App on phone/tablet.
Sounds like a great setup!
So, the church I go to has an older hyperdeck studio 2 kicking around and we currently use an ATEM mini extereme ISO for our recordings (though we don't need all the camera inputs it has right now) How would one add one into their workflow for playback? I was thinking of moving all the video assets from an older version of resolume due to some sync issues we've had and just simplifying what station is doing what. Heck, some of the automation for it would be great with triggers and what have you.
If you're mixing on other, larger consoles very often, the XR line feels terrible. But, just for quick simple stuff, it makes a lot of sense.
Sure, but it's got its place regardless of what someone is used to
Can confirm, this thing rocks. It even works great as an audio interface. One big piece of advice: don’t use the internal WiFi router. It’s extremely flakey. Use an external one.
Oh yeah, where else are you getting an interface with this many ins/outs? So good. And yeah, I definitely recommend going hardwire unless you're in a desperate pinch.
I have two of those I use them combined then they become 32 track We travel a lot with large and small groups And that saved my life I didn't have to take my big analog mixer with me Thats Small and compact
Oh nice!
Behringer makes some good stuff! Learned how to mix sound on a X32 rack and sound board. What’s cool is Berhinger actually owns Midas (more premium brand), which give you nice software and preamp support from Midas. It’s basically all the sound board 99% or churches, and this little guy is no different!
😅 Behringer Owned Midas They have Bought Midas Behringer is the boss of Midas 😉
Oh yeah, they really sit in a perfect price/performance sweet spot!
@@tontondm1419 had a little brain fart lol. You are correct
💯
😮
Great ❤
Is my church able to use this Mac mini to display pro presenter but to also live stream? My pastor wants to get two so we can use one for ProPresenter and one for live streaming, but wouldn't one work if it works with multiple displays?
You could definitely do both from one machine, buuuut it can be good sometimes to split up responsibilities in case the computer goes down you only lose one thing. Or if you push ProPresenter kinda hard, it can take away resources from streaming, etc. But you can try it first and then see what happens!
Bro this is incredible I do cameras, slides, and the camera switcher for my church to learn for to run something this big is insane big props
Thanks man! It's a ton of fun every time
I don't know where you got your price for ProPresenter but we paid a fraction of your quote for multiple seats. A little false information.
It's directly from their website, maybe you're grandfathered into something
I want to how you are sending slides to atem ?? Because i want to project lyrics on main LED screen and on atem also-( lower third)... Can you help me with that
We just have an HDMI cable running from our ProPresenter computer straight into our ATEM Constellation as an input.
what software are you using for the streaming
We stream directly from an ATEM Mini Pro!
The tally lights were a huge improvement for our system. Thank you for the instructional video. Yes, training is always a challenge. I've served in tech media since 1998, and it's a never-ending search to help, then add the changes in staff and how they want things done vs the previous person it can cause a lot of confusion. One way that can help is to show up for worship rehearsal. Not everyone, but quarterly to review camera operation, lighting and sound.
Yeah, it's an uphill battle for sure! Rehearsals are KEY!
I will figure church productions
I am sorry to say it but the audio does not sound very good there is way to much "air" in it. You want to get a more close to the artists sound even for this kind of event.
Happy new year. Thank you so much for the impact you have had on our ministry. Im eternally grateful. the tally lights trick has been thus far the most impactful. In 2025 I am working on a new sound design for our online mix different from in-house mix. Im figuring out new terms like Dante and Waves, its really exciting...
So glad to hear all of that!!
Happy new year!
Happy new year!
Hey Josh, is there any difference in terms of quality between SDI and HDMI in short distances?
Na, the only difference you'd see is because of 1) latency and 2) if your camera can output a higher resolution from its sdi port vs its hdmi port
Naw
Are Bibles available
Can Acer Aspire 7 laptop handle the stream?
All just depends on your specific specs, internet, and stream quality. Lots of variables!
Thank you for this video. I'm currently looking for a wireless videosytem. The first one. I was considering the DJI SDR. But as you said the lagency is very important. Not really this important for mr, but there will be situations, where it is important. Still not sure because theTeradek is nearly double the price. At least here in Germany.
I’m new to live-streaming got the atem mini and g85 setup any tips you could give me ? Love the content btw man has helped me and my church a lot
Latency is such an issue, we had to go with something we knew would work, Teradek bolt 4K 1500’s not cheap, but never issues. I hope a more budget friendly option with very low latency, good bitrate comes soon.
THANK YOU!!
Hi, great video Josh, and thank you so much for doing it! We have just two cameras and also a media feed from ProPresenter. With just one tally light on and working, it turns red when in program, and green when in preview, but it stays green when no longer in program or in preview. So when the Media feed (acting as a 3rd camera) is in preview and our other camera is in program, or vice versa, the tally light for the 1st camera still stays green. Disappointing. So it is acting like the 'Mode' setting is set to 'Preview stay on' which Aron describes is 'Tally will be green whenever not in program', but I have mode set to 'Normal' which he says should set the tally to OFF when neither live nor in preview. Has anyone else experienced this and/or does anyone know of a way to fix this? Thank you! -Grateful to Aron and Josh and all who have contributed, etc.
Hm, I've never experienced this! It definitely sounds like that Mode is set incorrectly though, so I'd double check that. Outside of that, I'm not sure 😕
