Honest RC Review. Traxxas E-maxx.
The Traxxas E-maxx. Of the two I have, I featured the Gen 1 E-maxx most due to it being a complete and running truck. As cool as it is the E-maxx does have its limitations. So keep that in mind.

So on my review video someone asked about upgrading the servo. I responded in a comment but wanted to make a video to show the process. (Also nearly knocked over my whole shelf in the process 🤣🤣). www.amazon.com/dp/B0D13SL79N/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_TH7SFR5ANJX71HF04SVK?linkCode=ml2&tag=thehobbybybri-20 www.amazon.com/dp/B0CQMTSCXG/ref=cm_sw_r_as_gl_apa_gl_i_5JMR0F8TCYR3VDWR5GFV?linkCode=ml2...

Honest RC Review Tamiya Grasshopper/Hornet.
Thanks for all the info I recently for 70 bucks bought 3 boxs full of rc stuff at a garage sale. All I looked at was a little of the first box which had an A stamp rc10 and a rc10L and I immediately paid her asking price and left with all 3 boxs. In the other boxs were 3 tamiya, frogs, a black foot, clodbuster, latrax ltx-40, 12 transmitters of all kinds and a ton of parts. I now know the clodbuster is an old one for sure as it says Chevrolet on the tale gate it also has those evil mechanical speed controllers as do the frogs and black foot.
Can I run 2s lipo. On my standard car. All lipo batteries r 74v.?? My zorro is 7.2v
Yes I ran 2s Lipo on mine with the stock esc and motor without issue. going from 7.2V nimh to the 7.4V Lipo won't add enough extra stress to burn it out on the stock gearing.
@BLKLSTRC thank blacklist. U r my rc god
@@stigwhite3535 Happy I could help.
Nice Rig... those rims are pretty awesome!
@mondomikeg4921 Thanks. Yeah can't really go wrong with the old school monster truck deep dish wheels with those massive chevrons.
@@BLKLSTRC This is a GREAT platform to begin with. Maybe I'm a little biased, but I just bought my first Brand New RC for that was not a gift. PS... What axles are compatible? I'm looking for maybe a 1/8th scale. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
@mondomikeg4921 When I built mine, I used the Everest 10 axles, but having locked diffs made it act weird under acceleration. Was great for crawling, but for bashing and jumping, it hindered the truck. So I swapped them out for Redcat GroundPounder axles. It's much better for Monster truck stuff. If you are going to build it as a custom Monster Truck, I would suggest those or similar. If you want to keep it a crawler, just about any crawler axle will fit with the correct length links.
I love the clod . The old school one had the power switch lol.
Got mine in 1996. It was my first Nitro RC. Mine had the .12 in it. Had a lot of fun with that truck! Did experience a runaway due to the power switch location. Sent it deep into some shrubs at damn near full throttle and smoked the clutch in the process. Built a switch skid plate / protector after that one. Put an MIP Stinger pipe on it and boy did that wake it up! Good memories!
@bensnipes7288 Trying to find one of those MIP pipes is a pain. They sound bad ass.
MO POWA BABY!
Do I keep my heatsink open or closed. I'm confused
@stigwhite3535 Not sure I have seen a heat sink that can be opened or closed but I would say absolutely use it if you have it.
@BLKLSTRC when would I have it open or closed. So sorry to sound stupid. I just don't know
@stigwhite3535 That I am not sure about. I would have to see the esc and motor you are using.
Thank u again il put some photos up. Again thank u for your help
Wow, thats awesome!
@@Ghosty-RC Thank you
I have this truck how do i upgrade steering servo. And which one do i buy
Upgrading the steering servo is a pretty easy process. Depending on what you do with the truck will narrow down the choices in which one to purchase. As for actually replacing the part I will do a video aswell as this response here to clear up any confusion there is. But generally you remove the screw keeping the servo horn attached. Then remove the 2-4 screws holding the servo in the mount. Unplug the servo from the receiver and then with the new servo reverse this process. Again I will make a video to provide further aid. As for the servo to purchase I stay with the cheaper options from amazon. This link is to some I recently purchased for use in my nitro trucks and they work great: a.co/d/03ruPFC . I also have used these and they work well on heavier trucks: a.co/d/4amz3Ll . Some will suggest you spend the same amount of a new truck on a servo because "You get what you pay for". In some rare instances sure this will be the case however I find most of the budget friendly products work great and even outlast or outperform some of the big dollar parts.
Is this the version from the movie?
Once I am done testing the body I plan on having it painted the exact match to the movie.
Love hotwheels
Subscribed!!!!!!! 👍
Thank you!
I just ordered the 2016 re-make of the 1986 .... I know it's a little different but I had to get one!!!!
A little different but those differences make it a much better running truck in the long run. Enjoy it, I know I enjoy bringing mine out.
This is my local shop
@Carmonia1 RCE is only a 30 minute drive from me. I love going to their events.
F****** awesome man
Thank you
@@BLKLSTRC I love that car I would like to get one made for my arrma felony
Hit me up on Facebook and we can go over the details. I can easily scale it up to fit a Felony.
Technically orange hit the ground first.
Yes it did. Technically lol. They did a rematch and the SCX6 did win the rematch.
That's an oldie but a goodie of a body🤘
Yes it is. Trying to find one now is pretty hard.
🔥🔥 nice.🏎💨
Thank you
vroom vroom
Yes indeed.
Now i am hard
I’m starting to think there is a lot more overlap between Tamiya and certain RC companies then we’re perhaps lead to believe. Look at the cross rc dually kit, looks a lot like the sort of thing Tamiya may have developed
I am sure if Tamiya wasn't directly involved their influence is there. Tamiya is one of the biggest RC companies. On top of that they have been around for a VERY Long time.
Yeah they'll always be Legends!. Problem was I couldn't afford the CLOD back in '87 , then thought about getting the Blackfoot .. but they had that problem with the diffs and axles so at the end I settled for the Kyosho Big Brute which I still own it today and I dont regret it! 😂
@@SoundStream101 A Big Brute is another one I would mind adding to the collection. But my experience with Kyosho products is limited to my 2wd Outlaw Rampage TT and my Nitro Ultima ST.
I like both, but for someone starting out I would say off-road. The thing is you can use a off-road on-road but it does not work the other way round, unless gravel well sort of.
@BasBoyRC That was the biggest point I was hoping to make. I agree.
UK Monsters is a good source for aftermarket (aka production custom) clodbuster parts. I restored my 1984 year 1 clodbuster with alot of the parts from UK Monsters which address many of the cons you spoke of. Except Suspension, my suspension function is all in the tires, the oil shocks/coil are useless and for looks... lol
I am going to have to check out that sight.
When I started it was Nitro that was faster, electrics the batteries were limited and run times were short. Now I would say Electrics with the Lipo batteries as they give out so much power and then Brushless motors. One thing electrics are easier to start with as my luck with Nitro has not been good.
My luck with Nitro wasn't great either. My first one was a dud. Or maybe I was just expecting it to work like my electric ones did. Looking back now I definitely didn't pay attention or want to learn how to make them really shine. Now I really enjoy them.
@@BLKLSTRC My 1st was a real dud as well, my second went a little better then got worse. I gave it away to someone who likes them. Turns out the factory settings was the issue, on the low end the turns they said needed to be doubled. Plus it was killing a glow plug per run. I'm happy just to keep electric as rarely I have issues when out.
U didnt even drive it!?
Not in this video no. There will be some more of it driving soon.
Gotta love the CLOD! I have had 3 of them and rebuilding one currently. I started with them when I was 15 years old. Fun truck. Timeless
Hell yeah man. Full rebuild on a vintage or usual maintenance?
@@BLKLSTRC rebuild on a vintage one I have had for many years
That's awesome.
I got one of the limited edition blue Clod Buster trucks. I have not yet built it. I do plan on installing bearings in the kit. I was wondering how durable are they? I do realize they can not jump 10 feet in the air and land hard. I have other trucks that can do that. Thoughts?
I myself haven't seen any real issues durability wise. I am pretty sure in the middle of the video I mentioned they are pretty durable. I get mine up to about 25mph ish and hit small bumps and jumps with ease. Donuts are easy on 2s in dirt or sand and so far I have not had anything break on me. I am sure it could be pushed a bit harder and handle it.
@@BLKLSTRC I am happy to hear that. I was going to get oil filled shocks for it. So, that way when it jumps it will land planted. However, this is a monster truck and they bounce when they land. So, now I think I will stick with the friction dampers because the truck will bounce. Thoughts?
I myself am going to replace the stock shocks with Aluminum oil filled ones but that's just what I do to just about every one of my trucks.
@@BLKLSTRC I agree, I have replaced every car or truck shocks with aluminum shocks. I think the Clod Buster is not a high performance truck. It is supposed to bounce and look good doing that. Thoughts?
Yeah that is part of the charm of the Clodbuster.
He keeps getting all of these cool trucks, and I want them!
The only upgrade that they've done when they made the Super Clod was the plate in the chassis, when you attach the black suspension links. The original Clod had them just bolted to the plastic with nuts on the inside of the chassis, which caused breaks.
Seems like a reasonable update to the chassis then.
Those three steel chassis reinforcement plates were added way before the Super Clod Buster came out. They originally debuted on the Bull Head in 1990 and have been included in every Clod Buster release since.
I did not know that. Learn something new every day.
@@Locoboy5150 Oh ok. I thought it was in the Super Clod.
Awesome truck bud ❤❤❤
Thanks bud. The Clodbuster is an awesome truck.
It sounds like a very good tune, but it would be cool to see it in a bigger area. My Tmaxx 3.3 is a blast in big empty parking lots or grass fields.
That runs nice 🙂
Thank you. Just got to mess with the tune slightly give her a bit more go go juice and it will be perfect.
Perfect idel
I thought so.
@@BLKLSTRC u were correct
I have one, I bought it recently, it is without electronics at the moment, I love Big Bear so I will update it, greetings
Enjoy!
First. Or something.
Yessir
So to add some information I bought my super Hawaii from the hobby store and the box said and actually I bought two of them because one of them I painted horrendously painted it terribly I mean I painted it midnight blue with silver speckles and I cut the wing off. I painted it midnight blue with silver speckles and that was the worst thing to do I also cut the ring off don't ever do that so the deal was there were two versions at that time there was a version that came with twin motors and there was a reversion called the CESA now the version that version came with four 5:50 motors in twin outdrives. Now it's really strange because even though there's a gearbox depending on what tooth pinion gear you use you end up with a one-to-one gear ratio there is just a mechanical advantage because you have a counter gear in there I was able to at the time purchase all of the hop-up items which included trim tabs which included delran gears and steel shafts and steel hardened gears There was also a very very specialized part that went inside of the hardened steel end plate which I also purchased I do not have a plastic gearbox my gearbox housing is plastic but the faceplate is metal also there is a really specialized part that I have one left it is like a ball bearing but it's made of rubber and your shaft goes through that rubber sealed gasket and goes out to the outdrive it fits inside just behind the ball bearing that supports the stub shaft that goes out from the gearbox the super Hawaii from ABC hobbies is so rare they came out with a smaller version which was 1/3 the size and it still had the outdrive ABC hobbies was out of Japan. The 550 that I have inside of my super Hawaii you would never ever believe that I'm running mine on two kyosho water cooled Marine motors I then have water cooling running into the astro flight speed controller. Used voice to text while driving home so if there's anything crazy or erroneous please understand. I overtime wanted to change it to a brushless setup but it has such a unique sound and now with LiPO batteries I'm able to carry less of a load when before I used to carry to 7 sell packs and when I really wanted to run it I would run 2 eight cell packs. The most that I have ever put through this setup was 37 sell packs but there was really no game due to all that weight. Now I'm able to throw more than 22 volts through the system and its only one pack. The boat came with 16 tooth pinion gears for the gearbox I went down and I'm running 12 tooth pinion gears. I am running in altura 440 propeller and sometimes I throw in October 640 propeller. I have grown up to a 442 propeller but things get really hot. Best performance in choppy wavy salt water marine conditions is the 438/3 blade propeller.. my second super Why I left it orange and kept it unique. There's also a spoiler that goes on the back of the boat not just the wing that provides lift to carry that load but there is a wing on the transom of the boat.
Recently a CESA version was for sale in my area but someone scooped it up before I could. I was debating getting a second one and painting it, funnily enough, Midnight Blue. I may end up 3d printing a replica hull and make a second boat.
I agree I just picked another awesome trophy truck truly or beast
I just threw a Traxxas Brushless system in mine and wow does it really turn into a beast. The stock 15 turn brushed motor was pretty quick but Brushless is an ANIMAL!!
@@BLKLSTRC thank you so much. I'm brand new to this. Want a bit more power to her. And longest drive time possible. Thank u
You are very welcome. If you have any other questions please ask away.
290 eu brushles with 2s lipo and charger from my choice rc shop Athens Greece(320$)
Honestly for how nice this truck is that price for the brushless version makes a lot of sense. I actually just yesterday stuffed a brushless system in mine and holy cow is it awesome.
@@BLKLSTRC what power motor have u put in? I want to do same but don't want it burning out. Also what batteries r u using. And how long r they lasting please. I'm so new to this. An want it faster
I have a Traxxas VXL3s Esc and Velenion 3500kv Brushless motor in mine. For batteries I run a variety of 2S lipo packs. I would stick with a 50c rating or higher 2s pack and any generic brushless system will do. The stock gears would work fine on anything up to around 4000kv. The traxxas 3500kv system stays cool and I get about 15-25 minutes of run time depending on which battery I use and the motor and esc stay cool even when running it flat out.
I'm thinking on buying this one, how is the aftermarket support nowdays?
Aftermarket support is pretty good. There is a Ton of stuff that can be swapped into it and it can be used as a base for so many custom builds.
Thanks for your objective review!! Just what I wanted to hear about. I just got an E-10 used off ebay, and so far, so good, and I agree with your observations.
I am glad to hear this video was helpful.
😂😂😂🔥🔥🔥👌🏼
She slides pretty good.
Love it bud. Very hard to find honest reviews now because they all sell their soul for a free sticker 😂😂😂i have started doing more reviews over the last 6 months. I went crazy and purchased about 25 under 50 bux rc planes and have started doing reviews for a bit of fun and have been blown away by the quality now. 5 years ago they qere toy grade toys now they are hobby grade toys ❤❤❤subbed ya bro 🔥🔥🔥
I have always wanted to give planes a try but the last plane I had I got used and it never flew correctly. Going to be checking out some of your video's.
I really like how you modify your rigs to create custom monster trucks. The Clod Buster is a cool rig. The vintage RC's are collectable and usually go for a steep price. The Axial SMT is reasonably priced compared to the Losi LMT. Thanks for the great tip. Awesome collection and great job narrating and sharing some history ect.. 👍👍🏁🏁
Thank you. I am glad you found some usefull information in the video.
I sure like the tires and rims. I modified mine as well but nowhere near as nice as you did. I sure like how you explained the operation of the diffs and axels. You really have your Everest-10 set up nice. In stock form it would make a wonderful crawler for someone starting out. It's really cool how you set it up for an alternate purpose. That's what's so nice about the E-10. Great job on the video. 👍
Thank you. The Everest 10 really is a great entry truck and has so many possibilities when it comes to modifications. What did you do to yours?
Wonderful video! How durable are the stock gears of the 9125 (Differential and Spur) if I only take the car at 2s (18-19 mph maximum) is the stock esc durable? How many lipos or gaming sessions have you done without electronic failures in 9125? greetings friend
So far I has run it on 4s the majority of the time. Both 2s lipo's that it came with in parallel. So far I have not had any failures electronic wise. I have about 8 or 9 runs on it (@ 4s). The stock gears seem to be able to handle the power that the batteries it comes with put out with little effort HOWEVER. I would assume if you start putting bigger batteries and trying to push more power you may run into faults in the stock gears.
