Gold Coast Mackerel
Off to the local to hunt a few Mackerel this afternoon before the Autumn storms come in. The Currumbin Bar sucks at the moment so we need to sneak up past the north wall, up past Lacey's and out near the lifeguard tower. Heaps happening out on the water with some good fish caught.

Friday Arvo Mackerel Mission at Palm Beach Reef
Hey for us watching in the USofA, you Aussies need to give us a location of this bar. Gud day mate! *Oregon, USA*
Ballina Bar, New South Wales!
Good spot evens head. Don’t tell to many people lol
Definitely!
Awesome tutorial video, well done on presentation. Is there still cabbage weed along Tally creek? I am traveling a long way to have a crack at this in a couple of weeks,at night I will target larger tailor off the beaches.I purchased a centre pin reel and dedicated ludrick rod to have a go at Ludrick fishing-be great to have a go in Tally creek.
There's been heaps of Tailor off all those Southern beaches. Good luck with the luds, hasn't been much weed around tally. Snapper is good at the moment . Thanks for the support!
Thank you, l will head to snapper rocks and camp around there.l have watched nearly all your RUclips videos, very enjoyable and educational, well done.
Legend. Thanks so much again.

Hello . Can you tell me where about Tweed Head for land base bait fishing . Please share me street name and location please . Thank you for your time and your kind .
maps.app.goo.gl/dZDrc5ZjnHYevXtj6
See link below mate. Park Mariners Drive Tweed and walk the banks!
@@nightcrawlerfishing , Thank alot i will try one day . Can i parking in there Sir i using bait not lure is it ok ?
Both is lure and bait is good in there. You can park at the end of Mariners Drive. It's a nice walk around there.
@@nightcrawlerfishing . Thank you for your time .
Love you teaching the kids mate. Great daddy and kids time.
Haha. Having a go. Thanks for the support mate!
I tried to cross this bar in my hobi 16, I chickened out at last minute as I was getting sucked out super fast, It was an epic gybe and I still have no idea how I pulled it off.
So much water moving around! Add in swell, wind and tide and she can be pretty crazy. Can also be flat and easy as to cross too.
I’m Definitely going to down load this e book on how to ! If it’s still available mate.
Cheers for the support mate!
Mate that’s next level, what do you use for bait ? I literally have no idea how to catch fish out there. I’m used to catching yellowbelly
Jigging up some livies is the best option. For dead baits, pilchards are a good start. Size 3 or 4 hook and some 27lb single strand wire.
@@nightcrawlerfishing cheers for the advice mate, with the live bait option should I use a running sinker or nothing at all ?
I usually try both
Nice to chat to you (I was the guy on the board as you come in the bar) Do you have a facebook or instagram page mate?
For sure mate. Awesome to catch up. Facebook under Andrew Griffin!
What do you use for bait mate?
Hey mate, cabbage weed straight off the rocks!
Quite impressive work going in and out of Currumbin there. Thanks for showing that. I have done Tweed, Seaway, Jumpinpin plenty of times but never Currumbin
Cheers mate. The bar is terrible at the moment!
That's some skillful maneuvering. Can't beat Local knowledge.
Cheers mate
Great videos but isn't there already enough people at this spot
True. I'll edit. It's a very hit n miss spot though.
@@nightcrawlerfishing legend
Imagine trying to gate keep a public known spot 😂.
Not many watch these vids other than family on the other end of the country!
Those are some quality fish! Where did you get the cabbage from? I'd love to try for some luderick a bit closer to home
Just off the rocks at Tally Creek!
What part of the Logan river iv been going Redland getting extra large to jumbo
Just around the mouth. The two deep holes at the front of the mouth and the one near Reddy Bay channel. They were either small or decent sized
🤡
My Mother and her partner do this around McCLeay and Russel area, with one being just under 80 the other just over, takes the pair of them to cast the net. They do okay for themselves.
Nice work. Great to hear they are out there having a go.
I love doing this! But it’s definitely amateur hour when I’m throwing a cast net. Don’t mind as long as we get some of those tasty little buggers
Haha. Same here. It takes me a while to remember how to throw a net! Great fun though
What is your kayak called pls?
It's a Stealth Pro Fisha 475! So stable, fast, and good in the ocean.
Treat this bar with respect..that was a very very quiet day swell wise..it's ok to cross but good idea to pull up end of breakwall and check out the swell..dead low tide not alot of water under you also
Defintely agree with your comment. It changes around so much. We are around it most days, so the local knowledge helps with the correct path on the day.
Is this recently? water colour looks like it has cleared up a lot if it's recent. Nice video btw
Cheers mate. This one was from around a week and a half ago.
@@nightcrawlerfishing Nice to see the water is clearing up!
@tps.fishing For sure. I saw a few head out yesterday morning through the Currumbin Bar! Surf was too big for my boat.
Enjoyed it mate keep um coming all the way from sunny England.
Cheers for the support mate!
Love your intro man. Great work on the video. Hammerheads are such a nice-looking shark. I just subscribed to your channel for future content. Good luck out there and tight lines.
Cheers for the support! Agree, beatitiful species!
Hey mate i know you used a few outfits in the video but the first one you caught the mack on what kg was the rod and strength of reel. What sort line etc. Love the vids mate. I am yet to head out to the reef yet and am just wondering if i would have to buy another combo or not hahaha Cheers mate
The spin reel was a 4000 Shimano Sahara with 20lb braid and 30lb fluoro leader. I also use a 4000 Stradic, which is way better and the rod is a Shimano Maikuro 702 snapper rod. The 7ft rods give me a bit more casting distance. The overhead was a TLD 15 with 30lb braid and 40 lb fluoro leader, and the rod is a 6ft Ugly Stik- 6-8kg.
@nightcrawlerfishing you're a legend thanks mate. Keep up the good work. Tight lines 🤙
Whats that crossing like at low tide - I heard they've dredged it out a bit?
Pretty good now. Lowest I've crossed after the dredge is a 0.4 tide with no issues. Line is a little bit different, but pretty similar.
If in doubt ... follow all the other boats out Damn it looked busy out there
So many boats haha. Craziness
40 boats at 4.30am ??? Wtf hahaha. Insanity. Probably just because of hols and flat conditions ?
Definitely! Some of the busy days before Xmas and New Years had huge numbers of boats. Not many out yesterday or today though!
Hey mate good videos I see you say it’s a renegade about 5M is it the 460 or 490 cheers mate it looks set up well and handles good
Hey mate. It's goes well! Handles the ocean and rivers/creeks and everything in between. It's a 460 Renegade side console, 4.85m; 2.22 beam.
Thanks mate thought so, I’m seriously looking at getting one… keep up the good work
Thanks again mate! You can't go wrong with one
you missed sammy hitzke he was out at palmy reef just the other day
Oh no, haha. Did he get a few?
yeah got a few spotties@@nightcrawlerfishing
Nice
good one guys
So you need a snorkel to access????
Depends on the tide! I don't have one on my car and we were sweet
Stoked to see this vid pop up- I’ve been watching the river mouth for months hoping for an opportunity to get the kayak out- looks a little dicey still without a motor.
It's been perfect for a kayak fish lately! Zero swell and light winds
great watch mate, good to see the mackerel around. what did u get both of those mackerel on while trolling? cheers
Thanks mate! Caught on trolled pilchards
beauty, ill have to give the pillies a try when im out next 👍@@nightcrawlerfishing
Good save man was fun watching you catch that one 💪💪💪😁
Thanks mate. I'd lost 4 before that on slugs haha- very panicky. You were slaying them. How many u end up with?
I got 2 then called it a day good start to the season 😊
Awesome work, mate!
Nice work mate. Lucky save on the gaff.
Haha. Can't believe I dropped it
what depth are these guys at generally and what trace weight and line are you using?
Varies a bit re depth. Usually in the top part of the water column. If the water is dark or cold then they will sit much deeper down. Using 27lb single strand wire and 40lb line. Braid between 30lb and 50lb.
Australia's version of Haulover Inlet. Good stuff
Haha for sure!
Haulover has nothing on this. I'd ride Haulover all day long. This is on another level.
Jet ski guys are surfers. True watermen.
Definitely
You know, a small light weight planning hull like a tinny has a better chance at a safe inbound crossing than a larger displacement hull. The reason is that its speed is not limited to hull speed, so it can go fast enough that the swell cannot catch up to it. What brings an inbound boat undone is the steep or breaking swell catching up to the boat, surfing it into a broach & rolling it over. If you are in a planning hull, you have the speed to follow at close & constant distance just behind a swell crest. If the crest behind is smaller than the one in front you are safe because the smaller wave is slower & will not overtake the crest in front. If the situation is reversed, you are in trouble because the larger faster swell behind will catch up with the smaller swell in front, converging into one gigantic breaker right on top of you.
Solid points raised.
heymate what lure were you using for the first trev hookup?
Hey mate, that was the 60 double clutch in purple suji. Twitch, twitch, pause for the retrieve
@@nightcrawlerfishing appreciate it, really enjoyed the video!
Awesome to hear!
My dear old Nanna who passed last year at 97 years young, used to tell me stories of fishing the Ballina North & South wall all from the 40s through to the late 80s, she loved chasing the big Jewies.. I've not fished the walls.. maybe I will one day and think about her stories from yesteryear
It's a magical place. I've no doubt fishing there would bring back those awesome memories.
I really enjoyed your video. I have started fishing again with two non sucessful outings to Ballina. I love to see a man who winds with his right hand ..if you are right handed that is...keep an eye out for me as within three weeks I will be launching my tinnie which will stand out because it will have a gaff rigged sail..red of course😂 probably the only tinnie with a sail out there.
So good mate! Come and say g'day if you see me out and about. I'll have some free lures for you. Definitely a right hander haha
Boat a 4.2m?
460 Renegade! It's 4.85 total length
Awesome place eh. I’ve anchored out just in front of where you’re fishing for the night to get out early for a Mackie session. Those dolphins were there all night. Must be a good spot for a feed
Awesome mate. I've never taken the boat out the front at Evans. Keen as over the summer tho!
Nice vid! Love it, keep it up!!
Thanks mate!
Do you go to palm beach often on ya yak? Is it always this good? Im thinking of taking my yak there soon
I don't get out there as much as I like. Over Summer it's usually very good! Well worth it. Easy paddle out and back just gotta keep an eye out on the swell. The kayak is a great option when you get a morning low tide and can't get the boat through the bar!
Good fish mate , but hard to watch with that much swearing in it .
@danielwilson9141, apologies early vid that had music cut by YT. Not meant to be any swearing on it; will edit. Thanks for the feedback.
Isn’t Tweed river in NSW? If so then tailor legal size is 30cm.
Ah yes... 30 NSW, 35 Qld. You are right!
I love Iluka so much
So good. I hope it stays undeveloped!
@@nightcrawlerfishing yea so sad to seges reef hotel get knocked down but
(Sorry this is so long) Yeah nice in a couple of weeks we’re going to the suburb after Nambucca heads we go to Scott’s head every year and in that creek warrel creek there’s a lot of tailor last year second cast I got a monster greenback tailor in there it was to blownout like the car was filling up with sand from all the wind it was hard to stand up but hopefully when we go this time it won’t be choppy because I saw some monster I’m pretty sure they were GT”S they looked about 60-80 centimetres but they weren’t interested in the good old tweed bait so we’ve been cast netting herring at Tallebudgera because we live at Currumbin we’ve got 3 kilos of herring we’re trying to get bait before we go because something I didn’t know till a couple a months ago you can’t castnet in nsw hopefully this time I’ll catch a trophy fish I was just wondering if you’ve been fishing at Scott’s head because it’s really good fishing there
Scott's Head looks awesome. Haven't had a chance to fish there. It's on the to do though list haha. I've heard the big Tailor have moved in on the Northern NSW beaches. Just waiting for those westerlies to blow and it will be on! They are stacked on the reefs at the moment.
@@nightcrawlerfishing yeah true hopefully there’s still some left down there in two weeks .. but yeah it’s really good fishing there if you fish off the headland there’s plenty of kingfish and Jewies or if you take your boat out the reef there’s a lot of snapper out there but yeah it’s good fishing there I’m gonna try get a good fish in at Nambucca this time
Would love a kingy off the Headland! That would be so good
@@nightcrawlerfishing yeah it would be a first for me 👍
