Very impressed!
Great video. I am planning something similar. For the 3 attaching bolts on the brackets, did you have to drill your own holes in the bracket and awning? What nut and bolt did you use? I didn’t get any supplied. Thanks!
Hi I got the bolts with the awning kit. I did drill a hole to fit, I think they was only about M6, they just secure the awning to the brackets, stops bouncing off or being stolen.
Sorry for the music all the way through, had to cover up the Radio! Copyright issues!
Brilliant content!
What do you think about Altro vs rubber floor?
The Altro is very hard wearing, I’ve had bikes on it, dragged my kayak on it, dogs scambling around, no problems, rubber floor might not be a hard wearing. Probably depends on the thickness of the rubber
Where did you get those touch lights (and are they dimmable?)
I got them from rayne automotive, there’s three light settings and a built in usd port
Have you thought about building a paramotor van?
@@turkeyphant what to power the van?
@@exploresandtosummit No to carry a paramotor as well as pg kit
How many different ply suppliers did you look at?
@@turkeyphant I looked at a lot of different camper/motor home suppliers, most where limited stock, and most were collection only. And I found out Morelands are the main suppliers to these of companies.
@@exploresandtosummit Thanks, I found morelands too but they don't have too many colour options. Can you order direct from them?
@ there’s loads of different colours and shades! I ordered loads of samples so I could see and chose, I brought direct from there own website shop, along with the knock on edging, trim etc. all came protected on a pallet.
awesome work
Thank you 👍
Used 13mm poplar ply from garnica for my build. Laminating / cladding myself where needed in high traffic areas or where waterproofness is required. It’s incredibly lightweight and more than strong enough with good design in addition to being much cheaper for a diy-er.
I used 12mm birch in my build. I am happy with it. It's lighter than 15mm lightweight ply and about half the price. Saying that I would consider using the Morland boards next time - just for the finish. I'll make a van tour video when I finally finish it! Good job on the videos! Keep em coming.
@@brendanryan262 hi, thanks, I probably could of most of it with 12mm and the bigger pieces 15mm but I thought it would easier with all one size. I’m very happy with the finish of the Moreland board and it cuts nice, no splintering. Good luck with your build.👍
Wow 10kg in it. That’s a fair amount. 60kg saved in my build then. Very informative. 🤜🤛
@@abucklife I didn’t think it would of been that much, I was surprised at the result.
@ I’m glad it was otherwise it would have felt like a waste of money. It still feels a bit over priced.
@@abucklife it’s extremely overpriced but it looks more professional and looks a quality build so be worth more. ( that’s what I’m telling myself ! )
@ that’s what I told myself to. 😂😂
It does make a big difference. I made the mistake of buying 4 sheets of 18mm Phenolic plywood for the campervan floor. Its brand new out of a shipping container floor. Its stupidly heavy. Now those sheets are leaning up the wall in the garage waiting to be sold. Im putting down 15mm Poplar Core lightweight plywood on the floor which by my calculation will be half the weight. P.s Jewson is the only highstreet retailer to sell lightweight Poplar Core plywood in the UK. Its not laminated like furniture grade lightweight ply. Im sure other smaller outlets might stock it.
I’m just stripping out my van now and since handling the new light weight ply, there is noticeable difference in feel.
@@exploresandtosummit Depending on where you are based in the UK, there are a few suppliers of poplar core plywood that is less than half the price of Jewson. sheetmaterialswholesale based in Wanstead (if your based down south) sells 5.5mm 8x4 sheets of poplar for the walls at £12 and 3.6mm at £10. If your near the midlands have a look at Tippers. Their 5.5mm is £16 and 3.6mm is £11. Jewson costs £25.20 for 3.6mm and £31.48 for sheet of 5.5mm poplar core. So double the price at jewson for 5.5mm and more than double for the 3.6mm. So well worth searching online for local suppliers for poplar core. .
There are “reputable” camper businesses that sell furniture kits made entirely out of phenolic ply… it’s absolutely nuts. It’s for horse boxes and transporters not campervans and I’ll die on that hill 😂
About to buy these tyres. Would you say they aren’t too noisy after using them on the road?
@@Creative_Sparks I didn’t notice any difference, they may be a bit in the wet but I just turn the radio up!
@ thanks 👍
and what’s the price difference because that’s what matters too ? i think your find the price is triple
I think I paid £150 a sheet for the lightweight ply covered and £110 for the birch faced ply, then I had to stain and varnish it, so not a huge amount of difference for the weight you save and the finish looks more professional.
@@exploresandtosummitthank you there’s a big difference in price but i know the cost of being over weight can cause as i have been tramping for over 30 years ps great videos keep it up 👍
Top Job 👌
Just found your channel. Interested in watching your re fit. Just bought a MWB Crafter and need to do complete conversion, including figuring out how to get the kayak on and off alongside solar panels etc 🥴 I dont have height on my side unfortunately
Hi, I starting a refit this week and one of the things I'm figuring out is how to make loading the kayaks easier. I've got one solar panel on at the rear and the kayaks fit more towards the front of the roof rack, but depends how long your kayaks are.
The double glazed windows reduce condensation
That a good reason to have them.
The 180 twin turbo is the one lots of people avoid because they’re plagued with problems. The 140, mapped to 170+ when you’re out of warranty is possibly the better option.
Never heard that before! Been great so far and very quick, I’ve got a five year VW warranty so hopefully be fine 👍
Can you tell me more about the common problems specific for the twin turbo version? I have a 2018 twin turbo 4 motion crafter and want to know what to look out for regarding possible upcomming problems
I’m sure if you keep it serviced it will be fine, everybody says all vehicles have problems! I’m guessing not using the second turbo enough may cause problems, just now and again drive it at high speeds so it get used. all the crafter engines are the same, just different mapping.
@@alexanderlouis.w Yeah it's primarily EGR, cooler and the additional turbo. Have a google as some of the 180 issues with transporters are shared with early mk2 crafters. Some people blank the EGR. It's not a ticking time bomb but driving factors can contribute to the issues being a major problem at pretty low miles. Some 180's have a revised oil cooler fitted by recall to resolve that issue, but think the turbos are an ongoing thing to consider/prepare for just incase.
Good luck with your refit but trust me, you don't need a 4kw diesel heater, overkill for a MWB van, 2kw will be ample.
Hi, thanks , I’ve gone for the 2kw. I’ve got a 4kw in my garage as it’s far to hot, I keep it on the lowest setting, which is not good for a diesel heater. 👍
Hi, thanks , I’ve gone for the 2kw. I’ve got a 4kw in my garage as it’s far to hot, I keep it on the lowest setting, which is not good for a diesel heater. 👍
@@exploresandtosummitSpot on, few people realise best practice for a diesel heater is to run at max for at least 30mins every month.
Very informative thanks. Can I just check if it was the 1.5mm or 2.5mm thick 41x41mm unistrut you used?
Hi I used the 2.5 as I’m carrying kayaks, but if your just using it for solar panels then 1.5 should be ok,
Hi. My first comment after watching your brilliant videos. I've recently purchased a vw crafter LWB and I can't get enough of your useful and informative videos. I've begun my conversion with bulkhead removed.... I'm probably gonna watch your videos a million times to follow the best instructions available on RUclips. Thank you very much for your effort. Kind regards. Konrad.
Thanks very much, any questions just ask.
Hi mate, theres a lad who lives near Morecambe who does a great seat base. He cuts down the original base and welds in new supports and a complete swivel system. Its much easier to use than this one, doesn't require headrests to be removed, is the same height as original, uses teflon instead of grease, and cheaper! He even fit mine. Yes... it hasn't been 'crash tested'. But its definitely safe.
@@CalMUK91 wish I new that before! Thanks for the info. 👍
@@CalMUK91could you post a link or video?
Looking good! What switch did you end up using to blend into the dash?
I’ve got a vw switch to go into the panel to match the other switches, I haven’t put it in yet, when I do which is soon I’ll add to a future video,
I just got the vanstyle ones. All 4 for £80 no modifications and I prefer the look. Have a look at raily flapz . They will help with the mud
Love these arches but my only concern is how are you gonna get the front bumper off now?
Hopefully I won’t have to! I could probably pull the tape off the arches with a bit of force.
Love your conversion. Off on a bit of a tangent, now you’ve been using it a bit how is the drop down bed working and does it rattle at all when driving?
Hi, thank you. I’m starting a refit and upgrade in the next week or so, the bed had been great, no rattles at all, it’s on two tracks that keep it solid and I very slightly angled the two straps at the back so when it up, it pulls the bed tight so there’s no movement.
Hi. What offset are you wheels? You van looks awesome
There et35 offset. I done a video on them with sizes and where I got them from.
Thanks yes I watched all your videos, they are great. Didn't hear where you mentioned offset though, must have missed that. Thankyou for your videos. Propper quality build.😊
@bosscat8951 to be honest I might of missed that out! Thanks for watching, Im doing a refit very soon so be doing a lot more videos.
Happy days can't wait.😊
Did their son mine last week, very easy took 10 mins each end.
@@Metal05 I should of done them ages ago.
Hi great videos. I don’t suppose you have a video of you doing the wiring to the bed? Or did you seek professional help. Looks like I need to solder wires to the connection block any help would be good. Thanks.
Hi I didn’t because it was a bit of a headache! If you send me your email I’ll take some photos for you.
I’m doing a refit soon il add a video to that.
Great set! Looks amazing. What about speedometer and abs system? Is there any problem after changing wheel size for bigger?
Thanks, the Speedo doesn’t make much difference, on the crafter there a plus and minus adjustment in the dash menu to change the reading. I’ve done 6k miles so far without any problems.
Great workmanship as always & well explained. Will you be thinking of lagging the tank & pipes at all?
@@stevearussell thanks, I have no intention of going anywhere cold!!!
Excellent vlog. I have just started converting my crafter, and really want a roof rack, but don't really want to pay thousands. You have inspired me to build my own. Thank you sir. 🏴☠️😎
Hi thank you, yes definitely build your own, unistrut is strong, rust proof and cheap compared to buying a roof rack, and you make it to suit your needs. I’ve more videos very soon inc a aluminium decking for the roof rack.
Amazing work!!! 🔥🔥🔥 the bed fixed firm or swaying when it in midle position??
It’s on rails one side, there is a bit of sway but I put it down on the bench seats so it’s solid.
@@exploresandtosummit Ok i see, in your opinion this bed worth it?
Yes I think it really useful to have the bed up so you can use the van for other uses
