this situation was the fall semester of 2020, due to COVID, there were a shortage of teachers because Jeonbuk wasn't hiring. Back in February, new teachers were able to come fill in the vacant positions, and I think hiring has resumed back to normal :)

I was always placed in Jeonbuk. I first worked in Jeonju, then transferred to Iksan. Although it may seem that Korea is not very westernized, you learn how to adapt in your environment. I came to Korea knowing that I would have to adjust to someplace new, but I learned quickly that you can do a lot of things on your own. Plus English is more prevalent than before and its easier to navigate Korea. Your daughter should also receive support from her school and will guide her as she adjusts.

Hello! First, congratulations to your daughter for getting an EPIK position! Jeonbuk is one of the provinces of Korea and its capital city is Jeonju. Jeonju, Iksan, and Gunsan are the biggest cities in the province. The rest of the cities or towns will vary in size and may be super remote. If your daughter is placed in one of these areas, she will most likely be a traveling teacher, living in "downtown" of the city and commuting to multiple schools. Jeonbuk is about 2.5 hours from Seoul by bus. If she's lucky enough to live in Jeonju or Iksan, travelling to other parts of Korea will be quite easy. :) hope this helps!

Hello! I do think that public schools are a bit more lenient compared to academies... my students are allowed to speak Korean in the class, but typically when doing activities or communicating with me they try to use as much English as possible.

Hi! I just spent most of the last month traveling and hiking alone and I have to say it was rare to feel like I was in an unsafe situation. The only time I was scared was just hiking alone in the snow and getting stuck haha luckily someone else hiking pulled me out of the snow... Korea is a safe country but as always you need to be aware of your surroundings and be smart about traveling. As long as you follow your gut while traveling, you'll be fine! I wish you the best of luck in applying for EPIK! Are you planning on applying for Fall 2021?

Thank you!! It is quite the experience! It's quite easy to get a car in Korea, there are plenty of Facebook pages with car dealers that speak English and help to find the car you want! I did a lot of research and saved for a couple of months to get the car I wanted :)

I love both Jeonju and Iksan, they are both pretty awesome places to be in. Not too big, not too small. Could be a possibility that we've taught the same students, I keep getting shuffled around to many different schools each semester haha
