Most Human of Humanity - Vladimir Mayakovsky
"We'll wash the world with a second deluge,
Now’s the hour whose coming it dreads.
Too slow, the wagon of years,
The oxen of days - too glum.
Our god is the god of speed,
Our heart - our battle drum."

Another Saint-Just edit, this one making use of the 1979 anime " Rose of Versailles." Unfortunately, not a lot of scenes with Saint-Just in this anime so this edit isn't as long as I'd like and some of the scenes are a bit quiet when mixed with music (a problem I tried my best to resolve).
The Great Rage of the Père Duchesne - Jacques Hébert Edit

The great rage of Jacques René Hébert... A couple of notes: 1. I don't necessarily like Hébert and I believe he deserved his fate, serves him right for conspiring against the Republic, this video was simply made for fun; 2. There is some confusion about his famous line "How can one be a moderate in the pursuit of liberty?" for while many attribute it to Hébert, others attribute it to Jacques Ro...

      @balinttorok7025 Robespierre a été anéanti par les Montagnards, dans son propre parti politique. Il a joué au jeu du pouvoir en brûlant l'herbe sur son passage, et il s'est brûlé. Il était si fou, à la fin, qu'il faisait condamner des gens à tort et à travers simplement parce que leurs têtes ne lui revenaient pas. Dans tous les sens du terme. Il a charcuté notre pays, détruit le calendrier, le nom de nos communes, nos saints et Dieu, persuadé qu'il libérait le peuple tout en servant la cause de plus grands que lui qui se sont enrichis sur son dos. Ce n'était pas qu'un imbécile, c'était un monstre à qui on avait donné du pouvoir. Admirer un politique pour ses prises de décisions drastiques c'est une chose (je suis le premier à reconnaître la volonté profonde d'un certain peintre autrichien que je ne citerai pas pour éviter la censure) mais admirer quelqu'un qui a juste répandu la mort, c'est inconsidéré. Si vous vous sentez rebelle du dimanche, admirez les bonnes personnes, quelque soit leur parti politique : les communards, par exemple, furent des rouges qui pourtant eurent un impact positif sur l'ensemble du pays.

    “I am pitiless towards oppressors, because I pity the oppressed.” A line that holds all the sentiments it needs to. But the questions always becomes when the oppressed loop back around and becomes the oppressors. Is it in human nature to oppress? The French Revolution was such an interesting philosophical, moral, and ethical time in human history.

    • @Euromantique
      @Euromantique 3 месяца назад

      Danton played a big role in the beginning stages of the Revolution. Initially he was aligned with the far-left "The Mountain" alongside Robespierre, but later become a moderate who said the French Revolution was over and became the leader of the Moderate faction. Danton was involved in a ton of corruption scandals, bribery, etc. and Robespierre defended him for a long time but once Danton begin to openly criticise the executive branch of the govenrment, including Robespierre, they put him on trial and he was executed. Basically Danton was a deeply flawed man who got corrupted by money. He helped the Revolution get started but later he wanted to reverse the dechristianisation of France, make peace with all of France's enemies, stop state executions of counter-revolutionaries, etc. And there was a very real risk he could have seized control of the government and basically put an end to the French Revolution. So the National Convention, Committee of Public Safety, and Revolutionary Tribunal all decided he had to die. The thing that started his downfall was the liquidation of the French East India Company. Danton found out that some members of the convention were using insider trading to inflate and sell their stocks in the French East India Company before it got dissolved and instead of turning them in he instead took a huge bribe and kept quiet about it.
