Instead of the stopper bead, I just tie a small knot there instead and use 1 bead, the adjustable bead...works great.👍😀 Great threading idea!!! Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks for the video. Couldn't you just tie a knot in the middle of the elastic and use just 1 pony bead? The knot would keep the bead from falling off.
I have done this both with a mask before sewing in the elastic and after sewing. I have to say that the look is more "finished" using a stopper bead rather than a knot, but a knot will work.
It seems like it wouldn’t hurt unless you pull it too tight. However, maybe a person could put a small piece of cotton between the bead and the ear if it was irritating the ear. I’ve also seen a video where they made longer ties that tie behind the head instead of on the ears. You could use these beads instead of tying.
I found the elastic problem...some 1/4” elastic is soft and is easy to pull as video shows...however some is hard 1/4” Elastic..and you can pull through the first bead but not the double....SO..IN THAT CASE..I TOOK MY SMALL SCISSORS..CUT THE TWO ELASTIC TIPS AT AN ANGLE AND PUSHED IT THROUGH BY HAND....I will make sure to really check 1/4” elastic for softness next time purchased🥰
This feature has been keeping me from going gung-ho on elastic. I have loads of 42" bias tape ripped because they were the best way to get a good fit on a mask, plus elastic was scarce when I was sewing masks in March and April. I am totally getting my 8YO daughter on beading elastic for ear loops, now. We have so many pony beads in this house. Thank you for this tutorial. It's really made my masks up to the next level. <3
im using 1/4" elastic. . i can get the single piece of elastic through.. but not the dkuble.. what size bead do i need to buy for the adjuster bead.. thanks so much
When you run the 1/4" elastic two ends through, just tug hard, it will go through the bead. At first I thought it wasn't going to work but after tugging it works great!
Is is really necessary to keep providing negative feedback regarding the originator not answering questions? She took the time to post this, and no one has any idea of what may be going on in her life that might prevent her from having time to answer all the questions. We don’t need any more negativity during these time. Love your neighbor! 💕
This is the best demonstration I've been able to find... Thank you so much! My only question is, what's the point of the stopper bead? I'm assuming it's the same type of bead as the adjuster? I'm so glad this works and plan to try this trick tomorrow, I just don't get HOW it works 😂 You're great!
Hi everyone, can someone tell me the exact size of that string threader to use for the poney beads? Is it a standard size? I recently purchased one for a drawstring and it seems like it’s too thick? Kindly let me know thank you very much
I have used a yarn needle and it works well. Some beads have a smaller hole but i use the end of the needle to poke it through. I love this idea and so do my customers
Rude, isn't it? And frustrating! I'll give you info that I found on another crafter's youtube site: get the size 9 beads. Works great with the 1/4 inch elastic that I bought. Hope this helps you!
This works great for adjustability! I just followed your directions and got it! I wish there was a different material that I could use though so that it would be safe going through the dryer. For now I’ll wash on gentle and air dry. Update: I washed and dried it with no problem or damage to the beads. Yay! Thanks for sharing this information!
May I suggest quilters cotton, 100% cotton, and even Kona. And I do not use the machines on our masks. Medium hot water in the powder room sink with a little bit of Woolite. Swirl around in the water with your hand. Let sit for about 10 minutes. Rinse in fresh water (I do this a couple of times). Gently squeeze out water, then place onto an absorbent towel that I keep in the laundry room next to the powder room. Hang to dry by the elastics in the laundry room. They are dry by next morning. Do I ever through them into the washer and dryer? Yes, but not often. And our masks look great. I'm an A++ personality, and I prefer to lightly iron them so any wrinkles are pressed out and mask looks like new. Ironing also helps with sanitizing (read that on a helpful website). Hope this helps....😊
Sad that it appears she does not look at what her viewers comment! You are correct about that size, I searched through youtube and found a great site wherein the crafter DID give sizes for her viewers! Bought a huge bag at Joann Fabrics with a 60% off coupons. Came to pennies. Artisanal Threadworks has failed her viewers....
@@kimbond7085 So sorry, Kim, but I don't recall. I did not note it in my Sewing Journal; I just made notation of the size for the beads. I bought a brand called Darice "The Big One" 1 lb bag, transparent Pony Beads. Wonderful, varied colors, including clear. I had so many that I shared with a friend. Cost me less than $3 which included the tax, at Joann Fabric, with one of their great coupons. The same bag on Amazon was 8 something! Here's the UPC code: 8267669156. Numbers ABOVE the UPC label: 96342016070101. I handwash our masks but have thrown them in the machine from time to time, and in the dryer (medium heat). Beads have not cracked or broken, and colors have held up. VERY pleased with my incredible purchase!. ALSO: Look at other tutorials that show how to use pony beads on the elastic. There are actually two that are less fussy. and easier on my arthritic fingers. There is also a tool called "loop" something (needle?) that sells for about 6-9 bucks depending on where you buy it, that would make getting the beads onto the elastic a CINCH and painless for my fingers. Looking to buy one for sure!👍🏼
Thank you!
Does the pony bead slide if you wear the mask for a long period of time? Thank you.
What type of elastic cord are you using? is it soft? elastic? where do you buy it? What kind of bead? bead size? what is the hole size?
So excited to try this! This could change my life. Lol.
Great video Artisanal, here is where I got my elastic string. It's the best I've found. www.amazon.com/dp/B08DD4QVS4

💖💖💖 Thanks for this helpful video. I'll try this for friends for gifts.💃💃💃💖💖💖🙂
What length of elastic would you recommend for children’s masks? Thank you.
Doesn't the adjuster bead slide with use?? Or when the elastic thins after several washings?

I like that Material I still have my cassette too.
What size beads do they need to be ? Thanks for this great idea.
Yes I'd like to know, too
@@theplimptons5087 me too
They're called pony beads. Got them at the Dollar Tree.

Awesome hack! Love the retro material! TYFS! 🙏🏽❤️
It doesn’t hurt the ears with beads?

AWESOME
Very useful! Thank you. But good grief, over 5 minutes to show 2 quick things!
very good
What size is the bead...5 mm, 4mm, 9mm...
Thank you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻🤜🏻❤😁
Does anyone know how to add the beads to a mask that has been finished? I have a mask that is too big for me.
It works to cut the elastic off, then use it or another piece to add the beads, and sew the ends back onto the mask.

how much elastic would you use if you were making these for children?

What size pony bead do you use?
Question asked by another viewer 4 weeks ago still unanswered: Which size pony beads? There are several sizes, which works best?
Every instruction tutorial for this said to use 9mm pony beads...that's what I used and the size is perfect.
doesnt work when using 1/4" elastic

Do have a video of how you make your mask? Also wear do you sew the elastic?
It looks like the Joann pattern. They have videos on their website.
Did you sew the elastic in the corners or is there a channel for it?

It looks like it's there so that the adjuster bead doesn't fall off the elastic.

I used dental floss.
I hope you meant threading the elastic through the bead. The dental floss pulled the elastic through the bead easily.

How would you make it adjustable to an already made mask?
Put the bead on and use a new piece of elastic to tie a knot at the end
By the inch boxes its laying on, it seems to be about 8 inches because when folded it fits into four squares.
Looks like 9mm size bead with 5mm bead hole size. Guess it depends on what you are putting through the hole.
