Oregon Short Film Festival Review 2021
This is pretty dope and that dance after the green suit comment was hilarious shoulda dropped into ninja stance lol
Hi Ash, really enjoy your videos. Question: My sales agent requested an EPK, which I will start on soon. However, she said she'd prefer it on Vimeo (where my film screener lives) so my question is, how do we do this with a pdf? Possible or would you merely submit a pdf as an email to people rather then as a video file?
@@PARANORMALTV-hu7oc hi there! Thanks for watching! I’ve never had anyone request an EPK as a video file. This is a bit odd because the point of the EPK is to give film festivals behind the scenes photos, bios of the cast and crew, and synopsis for the film. I suppose you could include a link to download it in the description of your video, but I’d also clarify with them on what exactly they are looking for. Perhaps what they mean is a behind the scenes video? I usually email the EPK directly to festivals or whoever needs it.
@@Film_It_Yourself Thanks! That's what I was thinking. Perhaps she was thinking we were going to do a behind the scenes thing, but I'm not going that direction. I appreciate your guidance. I've already found one epk template on studio binder but if you have one you'd rec, please link me to it. I look forward to seeing your future content.
hello my name is bini i'froom Ethiopian and i need concat with pls liv your conctact tankyou
nice one.. but what about if i will shout in the night is there a palce to fix the lghitin on this rig shoulder
peachy🍑
This is wonderful and so creative - congrats on it!
Thank you so much!
Is there a certain age I need to be in order to start all of this? And is there an absolute budget low that they will say no to?
Oh that’s a good question. I’d assume to fill out contracts through SAG you’d need to be 18 years old or older as it is a legal document.
@@Film_It_Yourself could I possibly get an older relative to do it? Maybe include an adult relative as a producer or something?
That’s definitely a good idea and would probably work. However I’d ask yourself if you really need to hire SAG actors? Perhaps your production could be non-union and you could just hire actors that aren’t in the SAG union. If you plan to cast through a casting site or casting director, you’d just need to specify that you want non-union actors. There’s plenty out there that aren’t in SAG. 😊
@Film_It_Yourself And im totally on board to get non union actors onto the project, the only reason why I do want to maybe use SAG is that I have a pretty great opportunity to get a huge hollywood star cameo into the short film. Regardless, thank you so much for your help!
@@iambathman9916 oh wow congrats! Good luck!
She looks and sounds like Kristin Wiig ❤
Thank you!
Always helpful tips. I hope you are still producing YT vids! I like your style
Thank you! Been hard to get videos out while doing a full time directing gig but I am still shooting them! Just gotta get to editing them. 😅
My film got 31 awards from 37 different festivals that got into a mixed formula, as you mentioned. The oscars qualifying ones are way too high, and of course, i waisted money because they dont accoet your gilm if ot doesn't come from an agency. I also made tons of networking on those fewtivals that got accepted.
Wow! Congrats! That’s a lot!!
Thank you very much!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great video!
Thanks!
Great tips! I'll definitely use these in my next project :)
Awesome! Happy to help!
Very good explanation, thank you very much ❤
Glad it was helpful!
I love your channel. I just started getting into filmmaking and I like coming here to brush up before I go on set.
That is awesome! Thanks so much for watching and best of luck with your films!
thanks
Awesome!
Thanks!
How can I find a producer
Hi there! There’s lots of places you could find a producer. Going to film festivals would be a good start. Also checking out online communities on social media is great. Facebook has a lot of groups. Joining a group such as Women In Film or Blackmagic Collective could also help. Just general networking is pretty much the way to go. Watch people’s films and if there’s a producer you like reach out to them via IMDb Pro.
NO. Sound rolls first because it used to take a moment for the old 1/4" tape Nagra to get up to proper speed and, while waiting for that (only a few seconds) you don't want your FILM camera running, using up precious film. Film runs about 90 feet per minute and costs a dollar or more per second. Cost of buying the negative rawstock plus processing, plus workprint for some shots adds up. A couple of bucks per slate over a thousand slates on a movie - that's a few thousand dollars at least which is unnecessary expenditure. Once the camera is rolling, (it gets up to speed almost immediately so no need to call 'speed') the Operator or DP will call for the Clapper-Loader to operate the slate. This is usually "mark it". Now, once the slate is called and clapped, it might be that the camera needs to reposition or reframe or refocus slightly because it had been altered to see the slate. The Operator will do that and once done will call "set", or 'camera set' meaning the camera is ready, pointing at what it's supposed to point at. Only then can anyone call 'action'. BTW the preferred instruction is "turn over" rather than "roll".
Thanks for the info!
Hi let me ask, what about paying for footages like footages from medias? As I’m gonna create a production company and I was wondering what about paying for footages from medias.
Hi there! What exactly do you mean by paying for footages? Do you mean buying stock video from a stock video site? Or paying someone else to shoot footage for you?
@@Film_It_Yourself I mean Licensing footages from media's like NBC, ABC, ET etc. Cause my documentary will be licensed from these media's. So do I have to do like financing etc?
@@Film_It_Yourself I mean do you use film grants to license footages from media's? Cause when I'm cresting a production company and do documentary I'm gonna license videos from ET, CBS etc.
@@eph_loves_80s74 each grant will specify what you can use the money for but if you’re making a documentary and your getting funds for post production then yes, that’s pretty standard for documentaries.
@@Film_It_Yourself Ah so does it granting work for Licensing from ET etc?
Universe multicultural film festival,
Oh I haven’t heard of that one. I’ll check it out!
Hi
Hi!
Thank you so much! I noticed that the talent agreement had four documents in total. One was for adults and the other was for minors, but what were the other two? Do I need to have the actors sign the others? Also, if its an animation studio and the actors are only performing for no more than 2 hours at a time, are meals required to be provided?
Hi! Sorry for the delay. Where are the two extra docs? It’s been a while since I made this video. You really just need them to sign a deal memo and a personal release. UNLESS they are SAG. Then you need to also do SAG paperwork. You only need to provide meals if they are SAG. If they are then you need to provide a meal break within the first 6 hours starting from their call time. SAG’s website will have a lot more details on that.
Very good explanation, thank you very much
Glad it was helpful!
very cool!
thankyou for this❤
You're welcome 😊
Gyattt
How do they do it with a moving image tho🥲😭
Hi there! Do you mean like camera movement?
Como se llama la película?
Hi! It’s called ParaNorman.
Underrated
Thank you so so so SO MUCH!!!
You're welcome! Happy to help!
Owwww!!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Thanks for watching! 😊
Love this! Had a table read with my students for the first time. Thank you, keep up!
Oh that’s amazing! Thanks for watching!
So 1A- 2 -W is scene 1 take 2, wide shot?
Correct! You got it!
So basically it's management.
Haha yep pretty much.
Do you line inserts?
Sorry not sure I know what you mean. Can you explain?
My clapperboard says "sound' and "prod. co" what do those mean?
Great question! “Sound” means Mono or Stereo. So basically it’s just wanting how you’re recording the sound. Mono is one mic, Stereo would be two. Most likely you’re doing mono. You can also include info like lav mic or boom mic if your editor would find that helpful. “prod. Co” is the name of your production company. Hope that helps! 😊
@@Film_It_Yourself thank you!
@@DeceasedFlesh no problem! 😊
What do I put for "roll" if I shot my film on a phone?
Good question. You could really use this space for whatever info you want to capture. Perhaps scene number or anything else.
Which editor can be used for this ??
Hi there! Great question. Most video editing programs can do the simple person of this. I used Premiere Pro. However when you have characters crossing in front of other characters then you’ll need to do some rotoscoping in programs like After Effects. Hope that helps!
Thanks for your tips ❤
No prob! Thanks for watching!
Short and quick to the point, thank you I was once a part of "Art department" filming ads, that was a great experience!
Thanks for watching! And wow that sounds like fun!
Cool and cammo to if your in a flower bed
Hi, I'm an graduated Film-student, well technically its a Film and Television production side and less of the general "movie production" side that you see in Hollywood or Film Industry. During my college year, I made the cost budget mistake quite often and a lot of times we dont even have a budget since y know, we are college students, we broke af lol. After graduation, I pretty much not following filmmaking career that much anymore, I cant even get a job in it and I feel like it's very exhausted to form a crew and producer, but I sometimes have desire to return to it but probably in the near future !
Thanks for sharing! I say never give up and keep making stuff. It’s so easy to do with phones now a days too so you can keep the budget low.
Yeah im 14 and i want to study film and you’re explaining are very insightful I want to be a writer or director. I have a question what do creative supervisors do
Hi there! Thanks for watching and so glad you’re enjoying my videos. 😊 A creative supervisor establishes the creative vision for the production in order to deliver a visually impactful story. Hope that helps!
alot of films I've been on in Canada when we slate we will read the slate cam op will say mark it when the slate is clean in camera ac will clap the slate and say mark/ed, hold it for a second or 2 then walk off. I find it's more clean and has more communication.
Oh cool! Thanks for the tip!
Thank you for an amazing video with just the right information and fun style. Thank you again for your recommendations. I will be following up with a few for both my films.
No prob! Thanks for watching and best of luck with your submitting!
Are you available for hire to research and submit grants for documentaries?
Hi thanks for watching and reaching out! Unfortunately no I’m not but there are companies that do like Festival Formula.
how do festival directors spot a rough cut instead of complete film?
Hi there! Great question! Any seasoned festival screener will be able to tell if your film doesn’t have the finishing touches like a audio mix or color correction. Those are usually the things that make a rough cut obvious. Timing in the video editing can also be a tell. Some festivals accept rough cuts or works in progress however, and usually just require that you disclose that it is one when you submit. Other festivals do not accept works in progress and if you submit you will automatically be rejected. Hope that helps!
@@Film_It_Yourself ohky, yes you clarified me thanks much.
Is it advisable to submit a half a maximum duration set for a film submission?eg if required to submit a minimum of 2min to a maximum of 5min can you win if you submit a 2min duration movie?2.If using smartphone do I also have to get rid of background sound?-3.What if it align with the scene?4.My last:do tiktok special effects regarded as AI generated or not?
Great questions and thanks for watching! Totally fine to submit the minimum. The general rule of thumb is the shorter the better as it’s easier for festival programmers to fit your film in. For background sound, if it fits your scene keep it in. If it’s distracting take it out. For AI use, most film festivals will probably ask you to just disclose that you used AI and specify where it is in the film. Hope that helps!
@@Film_It_Yourself alright, I'm just not sure if tiktok special effects are regarded as AI generated.
I’m not really sure either but you’d also want to look into if you can even use those effects off platform on your film. Their terms of use might restrict the licensing to the platform only.
@@Met9171 yeah sorry I’m not either!
