    I lived a sober life for 28 years. Then I got into construction doing concrete. After just 6 months with these guys I was already addicted to cocaine and meth grinding 70 hour work weeks 😂

    You wonder how some of these people with insanely dark story’s didn’t commit suicide. That means if you are going through something just know it is alright.

    Why does any talk about addiction/substance abuse coming from 12 steppers have to be fucking ruined by the first question being, "clean date?". Why the fuck does that matter. What's your personality like? What changed for you that made you want to adjust your behaviors? What are you about? What do you believe in? What makes you tick? Ya know, actually substantial questions. The obsession over clean date and length of sobriety doesn't mean shit. It's completely superficial and is mostly used for a quick applause and the attention. I do not give a fuck how long someone has been sober, and sometimes even if they're not sober, judge the person on what they have to say and their actions. That's one more reason why the "program" is outdated and should have been tossed years ago. Length of sobriety should be the absolute last thing talked about, almost a light afterthought to do a bit of bragging after a meeting or something. That's it. Not this superficial attention grabbing nonsense where that is front and center. Complete opposite of how any support program should be. Fucking cult, fucking stupid groupthink frat sorority nonsense.

    I personally never felt comfortable at either. I found a support network of people who weren't former addicts and then I didn't have to listen to any talk about "disease" or war stories.

    I think it is healing for others to see a parent take this kind of accountability, just a chance to see what that would look like is a kind of liberation even if your own caregivers couldnt give that to you.

    But also, the fact to have been through that doesnt make you any lesser than others. I feel that whatever trauma makes the victim feel or a lesser/looser or narcissistically superpowered as the unstoppable survivor like robot(Arnold swartzenegher😅 one).. No one is none of those. We are all people affected by generational unhealed traumas. As healing Trauma is an idea relatively true, we need to be informed about and spread share this knowledge to create a trauma informed culture more empathetic and compassionate, supportive, respectful and genuinely kind towards others. On the other side oc the fence we need to learn kind assertive communication style to state indubitably our boundaries and stand for them, never going back on our word

    Enjoyed the story!but where all these talks seem to fail is the guests do not go in depth about what really worked for them and especially with meth or drugs like that...how long did it take to feel normal if even you do?was there a replacement?antidepressants or supplements?in depth about support systems?it's not just this podcast many do not go into what worked or didn't work in depth!!yeah they might brush the basics like I was in a rehab 15 times or I was In Novac's house and that saved me but what were the other things?😂

    • @talesfromthegripz
      @talesfromthegripz 11 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and I believe she did explain what worked in her staying clean. There is no magic sauce to staying clean though, it’s pretty basic. You stop using, and hanging around people that use. Find a support system, like a 12 step fellowship and take suggestions from there. Everyone’s recovery can look a little different depending on the person. There are other episodes on this podcast where people talk about meditation assisted recovery and mental health treatments. Good luck in your journey ❤️

    Im binge watching these interviews, and I really appreciate the content and format of this channel. I dont know why you don't have more views. I think your audio levels are a bit off, and that might be causing people to not listen to the whole interview. Mostly, the guests arent as loud as you are, so maybe if you bump their levels up a bit, that would improve the watch time. Youre doing a really great job though. Please keep up the great work!

    • @ChrisDeRoseTech
      @ChrisDeRoseTech Год назад

      Or maybe add a compression filter to the audio stream after recording. That might fix the levels too. Some of the guests move closer and further to the mic during the interview, and that makes it a little hard to hear without (me having to) adjust the volume during playback

    Clicked on this so fast - I twice went off everything including caffeine for just short of a year , what was so difficult in those last few weeks and months is that there stopped being any improvement whatsoever, and I was not happy , not living any kind of life - I would tell myself , I’m not going to die , I’m sure I’m going to survive this now, but , I don’t really want to . I just didn’t want to live a life that miserable- what is the point? For me, a large part of things is that I do have a chronic pain and disability , that’s how I was introduced to addictive medications in the first place . For my experience, substances were from a doctor prescription for a medical condition and given to me by a pharmacy, and for the relief and quality of life, the medication was truly a God send - but these kind of medications can’t be effective forever, we build tolerance - for me,’the options were maintenance medications , which were truly again a Godsend to become free from the opiates -the pain relief of course has a ceiling and isn’t going to touch all types of pain, it’s just how it is,‘kind of have to pick your battles right ? To come off of the suboxone is not easy either , it’s just not as savage as with full on opoiates, it’s slower and longer - but outside of the first 3-4’months , I got to a point where there just wasn’t improvement day to day or week to week, each day each week was the same miserable ,’dark nothingness - it was physically survivable ,’but , I wouldn’t recommend it - I’m sure there is a way ,‘I just have not found it yet-‘

    It's the neural pathways in your brain. You spent years building them, it's gonna take years to reconstruct them. Even after you quit using those pathways are still there. What they call "triggers" are situations that make those neural pathways fire up and you're back on the path of drug seeking behavior. It's why they call it "behavioral therapy", you have to change the way your body behaves and at the core of it is your brain.

    • @BrassBashers
      @BrassBashers Год назад

      Dr. Peterson had a good way of putting it in a video I saw yesterday. "You have circuits you build in your brain, when you build your drug circuits you also have other circuits associated with it. On the way home from work and you buy some beer on the way home? So even if you stop buying it you'll have that "stop at the store" circuit activate when you leave work. What you can do is create new circuits to override the old ones. If you have a favorite store to buy your alcohol, take a different route home. You can create new patterns of behavior and new circuits to override the old circuits of addiction, until finally they shut down."
