I played this in high school jazz band. (Bass). The main bass player was this guy who was basically a savant bass player. (Honestly better than Jaco). First time we got this the brass was busy trying to get the fingering down and he got bored. And he got tired of them not being able to sight read it like most of our 1000 other songs. So he got up and got a copy of the horns and sight read it perfectly on the bass transposing it in his head as he played it with one hand stoned I’m sure at double the written tempo. Everyone just stopped turned around mouths wide open. And yeah it was his first time ever seeing or hearing it.
