Whales off Newcastle. Winter 2023
Просмотров 15Год назад
Whales having a play off Newcastle Harbour. Early winter 2023. Normally being in a vessel this close to whales would be enough to send them diving for the depths for an extended stay. As they say, “the best way to scare off a whale is to point a camera at it”, but these 2 were happy to hang out and put on a magnificent show.

I don't think the pic at 1:49 is of that wave, regardless of what this guy says because all the witnesses say that as Greg got to the bottom he "stepped off" and was demolished. But that pic shows him at the bottom just fine. And the first pic at 1:35 looks like Waimea, not Makaha. Finally, if this guy had been taking pics of the moment, he would have been showing them for decades, not sitting on them for no reason.
Biggest wave ever riden was Lucas Chumbo!!🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
Nice video, what ferry was this on??
Greg Noll was the John Wayne of surfing...no jet skis, no wet suits, just guts JMO
Jaws, Mavericks, and Nazre are all much bigger waves
Pure courage to be out in those conditions. Kudos
Who would give this classic old Surf video a thumbs down? It is beautiful.
Maybe they didn’t like the commentary
This is complete BS.
There is no picture or video of it. But Noll himself did take a pic of a similar wave before he went out that Surfer magazine called the largest wave ever photographed. So if the wave he tried to ride was anything like that, it was probably a 60 footer. Which is insane given he paddled out, used a long board and had no leash. He is the man and that is all there is to it.
Agree. To me the most amazing thing is he caught a 60-foot wave without a tow-in and with a long board like that.
So the wave at the end of Point Break was fake too & Santa isn't real.
The event was NEVER filmed, your photos are not of the biggest ride of Greg's life, your video is of a different ride! Here is how it came about and eye witness account. (you should remove your video now that you know you were mistaken on the actual ride) RUclips: 'Greg Knoll Legacy' ruclips.net/video/YLkbkv8eiWk/видео.html
Why did it take so long for these pictures to surface or be acknowledged? I’m calling horseshit on this one.
Greg noll is true to the sport of surfing, he's a tough cookie now, 60 years ago,, he was da bull,, the big kahuna. BTW he was a great swimmer, that's why he's still alive, swimming..60 years from now the oceans want even be able to support life.
When your one of the first to go at that size he's still the man.
Perhaps at the time, but nobody had discovered Nazare yet.
These kangaroo pleasing aussies constantly try to bismerch everything that these pioneers of big wave surfing have done! If they put forth the same energy and commitment into actual surfing they would be revered as legends as well! They choose to channel the bullshit into worrying about what everyone is doing! Sad!
If the guy who paddled into third reef pipe says it's the most significant wave he ever rode, it's going to be bigger than 25 feet
fuck you
he was the first to say go at waimea all those years ago
I was out there but only in the morning. Some of the waves would close out the bay across to Clausmeyers. I heard the waves got bigger after I left. My lone wave was the biggest I had surfed, picked one of the "smaller" waves so I would not get closed on. Another friend of mine, Craig WIlson was out there. We were 17 at the time. It was my last day of surfing as my father was transferred to the mainland. I left before the more high profile surfers arrived.
Here we go again with this piss-poor non-story about was it the wave?, was it the second wave?,mate ,nobody gives a flying fuck about it,it was just business as usual for greg, stuffing himself into monster waves like some gladiator, getting wiped out ,then coming back for more! Instead of wasting time debating a fucking wave, lets remember what a surfer he was,the guy who dared wiamea to crush him,the first guy to go outside pipeline, and pioneer surfboard shaper. So,instead of reading total bollocks about who, why, what or when,go and watch search for surf, and wish you were there before the crowds showed up! This rant was brought to you by jeff jeeves from england, surfer, mountain biker and someday, hero? lol!
good surfers~~
I remember that day I am pretty sure the surf auction was on in the diggers I remember thinking wow its never this good.
he wasn't even there
this man is telling lies
Yeah, now go tell a bunch of kids how Santa Claus isn't real
Great vid! Nice choice of music too. :-)
Legends, especially surf legends inspire a culture and a mystic, it's us as followers who create and perpetuate myths, not the legends themselves..if you hear myths and believe them verbatim, then you're naive, the spirit and the stoke, the aloha inspired by these tales is actually more beautiful than a fact checking clones facts...that shits for scientists...
The best sources I've heard say this is the wave before the wave. Albert Falzon knows perfectly well this is not the real wave because he shot this one and then minutes later, Shaun shot the real wave with a home movie camera while Albert was reloading film. I think the only reason Albert is saying this is because he's trying to force Shaun to release the film of the real wave. But that's not going to happen. I don't know what kind of deal Greg and Shaun made, like maybe he could release it after Greg's death or whatever, but it was way bigger than this.
cause when its crap surf at freshie, it gets packed. but when its pumping, very few people..
Perhaps the *Biggest wave ever at Makaha*....!!!
i want to ride that wave!
how come theres hardly anyone out there
its this good never
Good fun. Plenty boats
I was arguing that he made it to the bottom of the wave, whereas you said he didn't get there. Now you are saying he did.....say off the weed champ.
He said he thought, he didn't say it was a fact
just going off what everyone else in the world says, including Greg.....not sure where you got your info from but i would love to know.....fucking idiot...
na he got to the bottom of it
Aussies allways got to cause trouble in Hawaii what the hell is it with you people you fuckers ruined surfing for the Hoale with your big mouths why cant you people show some kind of respect Austrailians give good Haoles a bad name .Stay home and surf your crappy beaches quit polluting Hawaii.
This is completely ruined by possibly the worst song in the history of music.
Think it was Australia day 2009 I was actually on one of the Manly ferries heading back to circular quay I was up the bow as I normally am (well facing forwards since there double bowed) when we got ordred to stop as "circular Quay was closed" the ferry master didnt let on any thing apart from it being closed stuck for 20 or so minutes next to fort denison next thing we see are the Tall Ships on there race coming under the harbour bridge out into the harbour right past the front of the Ferry,
Greg Noll was born in 1937, therefore he is 74 today. The narrator looks about 50. He was does not look old enough to be there, also there were very few Australian on the Islands at that time. He might not even have been born before that day.

Great.
perfect yummm
Yo la tengo + Surf = Tits
wtf? were there people jumping off the wharf lol cool vid by the way
Read the article in the latest TRACKS Mag regarding this wave.
I fully believe this is definitely the ride because there was actually another photo sequence of the same wave published in one of the magazines at the time with a caption saying something like Greg Nolls ride or wave. You would have to check the old mags in 69 or 70 to find it,but I know they also published it in another mag comparing it to Mark Foo's giant wave he caught and wiped out in the mid 80's during a day when the Bay grew humongous and every one had to get rescued.
It doesn't matter if it was the biggest wave ever ridden, but it was definatly the biggest swell recorded in the last 100 years, and he was out there, surfing it. That to me says he surfed the biggest wave ever. Screw details!
