DP John Matysiak discusses Big George Foreman
I wonder what they would think of how precious we see the movie now. thanks to all of them for a great Christmas tradition.
Truly an inspiring book. Thanks David
Thank you Jimmy for causing this Dad and Granddad and Teacher to believe that there is still hope for the male of our species. Which Presidents and Prime Ministers and multi millionaire sportsmen are role models for the children of our world? Where are Jimmy’s equals ? Where is their integrity, honesty, courage and humility ? Those same gifts that Jimmy exhibited selflessly and o so movingly? Thank you Jim 🧡🙏
Where can I find the full Interview? please!! I watched it before but cannot find it, and it one of the best interviews ive seen on this movie
"You oull in your birders abd try to makw your life around you mean something." True. Very important, and I'm slow to come to realize it. May God bless us with wisdom-- ...to change the things we can, accept the things we can't, and wisdom to know the difference. 👑✝️🕊️♥️
This movie, which was released the year I was born, is one of my very favorite Christmas movies - even one of my all-time favorite movies. I watch it every year. It used to be run multiple times throughout the Christmas season, but it has all but disappeared over the last years. It was my father's favorite movie, too, and it always made him cry. I love the sentiments displayed in the movie. A sense of community is sorely lacking in our society now. I loved all of the actors. I read somewhere that Stewart never wanted to work with Donna Reed again, blaming her for the movie's lack of success, but I think she was perfect for the part. All of the actors were. For the last several years, movie makers have substituted young romance movies set at Christmastime for TRUE Christmas movies. They don't begin to compare to the old Christmas movies, and they do not convey any of the deep emotions and sense of community that this movie - and ones like it - did. They leave me cold. They rob our society of the glue that it needs to hold humanity together. The individual young couple is valued over everything else. That is not a recipe for humanity. I'm sorry that society has taken this turn and that filmmakers have lost the meaning of Christmas. The young people, who watch those movies now, will abandon them when they get a little older, and they will have nothing to watch to revive the Christmas spirit. Thanks for this video.
So glad they cast the beautiful Donna Reed along side Jimmy
Who knew Nick the bartender was so eloquent?
I glad they dialed back Llewelyn
Elaborate please.
@@HOTD108_He’s a lot more intense and energetic in the audition as opposed to his calm and hesitated demeanor in the actual movie
I have great niece called Zuzu...in honour of this film and the little girl.🥰 It is an especially special film for my family.
George learns that no man who has friends is poor. That's actually a rather depressing message for many at Christmas time. So many people feel alone. I think the greater lesson of this movie is that no one with something to share is poor - and each of us has something to share, some way in which we make a difference- even in acts that are barely noticeable - that impact the lives of those around us. Each life may not hold the stuff of dreams or movies, but every life matters. No matter how old we are or where we find ourselves, every life makes a difference. God is as interested in the 'smallest' life as in the boldest, and He blesses us, every one.
omg,, Leonard Sheldon, still sounded like Nick!! And he went on to bigger things as well.
Thankyou. Let's be determined to carry on the legacy... 🙂❤
The main theme of this film, that every life matters, is a very Christian value. It harkens back to the biblical idea that God has a plan and purpose for every person, and that even if things don't work out the way we think they should, we succeed if we fulfill His plans for us. One person can truly make such a difference for good (or evil). George finally sees his life from God's viewpoint and as others see him...a rich man indeed.
I loved it when he played as Mr. krugers Chrismas! I still like it when he gets yo be with the Morman Tabernacle Choir!!!
No movie, not even the Wizard of Oz, can make me weep like It's a Wonderful Life.
The girl said at the end, "Teacher says every time a bell rings an angel gets its wings.' Yet I sadly imagine that these days it would result in news of a teacher facing discipline for referencing Christian concepts in class.
I love this movie and it’s cast. A Christmas tradition in our home.
In life, the ones you show love and sacrifice to, may not always repay you or even care to repay...but I can say with 100 % confidence that God himself will repay you, often using other people. As a self employed carpenter, I would often be asked "...why do you do such great work even if it means you will loose money on it" (use your own credit card to finish the work). I would tell the them, "...I am really building a house for myself in heaven , you see I am borrowing you this house, that I built, for 30 years or so that you got left on this earth, but when I die, it is mine in heaven." They would get a tickle out of my nice fairy tale , that I just told hem. Only "one person", in my entire life, paid me extra from the contract so I would not loose my shirt. Then, when I was much older and I needed to finish finish my own 120 year old rundown home with 5 kids, God decide to pay me back. It was during the 2008 recession, I had no money, no job for a while, and I asked someone to do the carpentry work, but I said I have no money, can you do the work, pay your helper and pay for the materials and I will repay you in 4 months or so, then I asked the same for the flooring guy to install the hardwood floor, then I asked the painter to do the painting, etc. God blinded them, for they all said yes , trusting a complete stranger, that he will repay them. Then God opened up their eyes back again, and as one of the said..."I can't believe i just did all this work using my own money..?" I repaid them all about 4 months later.
I am almost 60 and I just watched this again with my 18 year old daughter for the first time in 40 years. clunky and bizarre and even ham-fisted as far as classic cimena goes, there was a reason it was a bomb when it was released. BUT if that last scene does not make it all worth it and you dont well up at the joy of family, friendship and goodwill , you just arent Human, That is solid gold.
This is one of the greatest life affirming stories mankind has to tell and it definitely became a christmas time classic for a VERY good reason. NOBODY is a mistake and everyones life matters. There is a lot of love towards mankind in this story and it speaks to a part of us that knows it is true. Also there's a radio drama version of this movie too, also staring Jimmy Stewart in it. And it is also wonderfully touching. Half as long though (just 1 hour) but still encapsulates the essence of this amazing story and it works great as a radio drama too.
When I first saw it it was around ‘83 & I just fell in love it & it’s become a holiday tradition!!
I watch it every Christmas Eve.
Thank you Marlo Thomas for co producing "It Happened One Christmas" which was a remake starring Marlo Thomas playing the part of George Bailey. Because of her version which aired on ABC in the late 1970s sparked an interest in this classic Jimmy Stewart, Donna Reed, Capra classic. Orson Welles was cast as Mr Potter in the 1976-77 version.
I always felt like I "discovered" this movie. It was Christmas oif 1983, my wife and I had been married in May of that year and we lived in a small 1 bedroom apartment near Dayton Ohio. I managed a Thom McAn Shoe store in the Dayton mall, back when malls were really busy around the holidays. I had been working a lot of hours with the mall being open 9am to 10 pm the week before Christmas. I was raised in NW Ohio about 80 away. I couldn't wait to get home. That day my parents called and said not to drive home that night because the temps would be near zero with a much worse wind chill factor. A good percentage fo the trip was rural roads and they didn't want me having car issues in the middle of nowhere. So we stayed in our apartment Christmas and we had cable TV, back then about 40 channels with 3 or 4 "superstations". I was flipping through channels and came across this movie about a guy named Bailey, probably 1/2 way through. Then I got to another movie with kids sliding down on shovels, and I recognized the character names. I ended up finding it on 3 different channels at various points of the movie. I loved it immediately and told my family about it the next day. Within a few years it had a huge fan base. It holds a special place in heart.
Jimmy Stewart seems nice, and he probably is but a lot of his "haters" talked smack about him. There's dirt on everybody I guess. I think Jimmy was mostly as nice as he was on screen.
Best picture ever made...<3
A movie to watch every Christmas season ❤️
This was good... I wish it were longer. Is it?
No this is all I was able to put together with what is out there. If Paramount gave me access to their archives I’d love to do the definitive feature version for it’s 80th Anniversary!
Peter Bogdanovich's excellent book on the movies was titled "Pieces of time" based in the quote from Jimmy Stewart and he devoted a chapter to Jimmy. It is one of the most worthwhile things I have ever read on the subject of film and also on the subject of what it is to be a great man.
Ive watched this movie at least 50 times and each time I still cry. If this movie doesn't move you then you'e dead already.
That's when they actually made good movies great movies! The reality of life that not everyone is going to be able to travel the world and do what they want to do! And to take life as it is because there's a lot of wonderful moments in it!
Jimmy Stewart was a sweetheart ❤🌟💚
Did you know there is a very short Parody Film of "It's a Wonderful Life" starring a cast of actual LIVE INSECTS? It's a riot - great Family entertainment! Search RUclips FOR THE TITLE "Christmas Eve in Cricketville" I would like to put the link on here, but RUclips rejects my comments when I do so.
It's a Wonderful LIfe is one of the best films ever made that I watch every year.
Watched it last night, best Christmas film ever with one of the best actors ever.23.12.2024.
A perfect film.
Merry Christmas
Jimmy Stewart was my favourite actor in anything he did when I was a kid, I can still watch his films/movies with enjoyment today at the age of 67.
We can all use a guardian angel to help & guide us.
No words are adequate. No explanation necessary. Possibly the most perfect movie ever made
Capra was as good as any director ever.
Sheldon Leonard is also the names of the leads from the Big Bang Theory. Mr Leonard was a big inspiration
I actually slightly like Brolin's choice for the 'Well then I'll tell her myself' line better in the audition than the film. A little more like death is inconsequential to him
the thing is that death isn't inconsequential to him, he's scared, that what makes it tense, because the guy knows he's getting involved with something he should leave alone
One of the best-if not THE BEST-XMAS Movies of ALL TIMES! Peoriad! Nothing surprises it❤!
I recently learned that the 1919 Dodge touring car that Jimmy Stewart drives throughout the movie was repaired after he crashed into the tree, and still exists in running and driving condition today.
What is this from? This is the first time I’ve ever seen that audition tape. I’ve know of it since 2007, since it came up during publicity rounds for both Grindhouse and No Country for Old Men, (it came up in the No Countey for Old Men Charlie Rose interview and like some Facebook interview between Josh Brolin and Eli Roth back then) but it never showed up in any behind the scenes stuff for either of the movies when they came out on DVD, and I’ve never seen it in anything where it does come up.
Never mind, I see it’s a bonus features on the Criterion release for the movie.
Only had to wait 17 years to finally see the audition tape... and it's only 17 seconds long
a year for a second, seems like a fair trade
Epic
now I want to know how they went from not being interested in Josh Brolin to hiring him as a lead!
watch those bluray features
it was a joke . . . . .
Heath Ledger had the role. He dropped out. Josh got the part.
@@koolbee3081 thanks!
They watched The Goonies
So glad he got the role. Fantastic performance ❤
hmm... maybe a huh.
Fascinating how his delivery in the scene drastically changed
It got so much better. That shows how great the brothers are, and Josh aswell.
@@juninhor009 Yeah, the fact they saw this and took him in anyways tells me they are really good at detecting who their person for the job is, cuz they changed it a lot in the final product.
That’s how most audition tapes are. They’re usually very different from the final product.
Yeah, the delivery is way more subtle and dry in the final product. Here, it kinda plays like a comedy.
That's what audition tapes are normally like.
