The Road To 25 Years Austin Wintory - Kingston Symphony
Просмотров 2421 день назад
Took a trip to Kingston, ON on Sunday October 27th, 2024 to see Tchaikovsky & Wintory at the Isabel Bader Centre (Queen's University). It was an outstanding performance of both Tchaikovsky's "Romeo & Juliet" and Austin Wintory's "Traveler: A Journey Symphony". I was absolutely blown away by Austin's music.

Hi Rob. Just wanted to say thank you for such a lovely review of my score!
Great music is great music which made the score easy to review.
57 and counting 🎉 The RUclips soundtrack community keeps on growing. Great to be part of it. From subscriber no 52 😉
Good on ya, Rob. Keep it up!
Subbed !
The same. Have not seen that version of Loderunner before.
Congrats, Rob! On to 100!!!
I regret not going to that Bernstein concert.
The more the merrier. I hope these longer chats become a fixture of your channel, Rob. This kind of film music banter is gold.
I sing ROBOTJOX instead of REX STEELE! LOL! Ugh! Anyway, thanks for the invite, Rob! Can't wait to do it again!
Are you going to join Bluesky?
What's Bluesky?
I have just joined Bluesky. @visionsinsound.bsky.social
Harnell's voice gives Elmer Bernstein.
Facinatng. Thanks for sharing. I expectly love Harnell's humble response to being invited on the show!
"Valiant" isn't on Disney + internationally, because Disney released it in North America, here in the UK (it's an Ealing Studios copro with Vanguard Animation) it has no Disney links.
That's too bad. It is worth checking out.
This music sort of sounded like Hans wrote it for his group in the 80s The Boggles. I wasn’t overly crazy about it, but there were a couple of good pieces, Henry vs Henry and I Don’t Like Eggs!
I miss this Zimmer. This was a replacement score when Georges Delerue's score was rejected.
I already prefer this to Paul Simon's "One-Trick Pony".
Interesting ... I wasn't familiar with that _at all_!
Yeah, I too thought it was a shame it didn't take off into a series, as I really liked it. Agreed that Shearmur hasn't had the runaway career he should have. Alongside this I really enjoy Reign of Fire and The Count of Monte Cristo.
Agree to disagree on the Jane Monheit song. I hated it in I went to see the movie, and I didn't like it on the album. Agreed that Shearmur should've been bigger. But knowing the loss he suffered I can understand his pulling back.
While the main theme is bloody brilliant, I think the Ron Goodwin inspired "Frankie's Theme" as heard in cues such as "Finding Frankie" and "Manta Sqaudron," might be the best theme from the entire score! IMO, this is one of the great scores of the 21st century and Edward Shearumur SHOULD be among the A-list composers working in Hollywood today!
Too bad there's no Canadian version of "Television's Greatest Hits".
You're right, that is a shame. I know so many that would go into that compilation.
GNP Crescendo was also the very first label to release "Star Trek" soundtracks.
Yep, I have a few of those.
So did he only go to the police academy at NIGHT?
Yes, he would only work at night. His "coffin" was the trunk of his car.
It's a real treat to hear Rob and Erik talk soundtracks at length. Hope you can do more of these extended conversations on specific topics.
The remastered THING is incredible, my fave Morricone score. Moody and he managed to evoke Bartok principles without being pastiche.
7even is a masterpiece but I’d take The Fly for Shore in terms of music listening.
Another corker, Rob. I've always liked Season of the Witch more than the other Halloweens, both the movie and the soundtrack.
Happy Halloween Rob!
Even without seeing the movies, the music is great. It has very much a video game feel.
I remember Forever Knight
Time to watch The Thing?
You and I have talked a few times off air about bringing film score and video game score music to the educational curriculum so as to bridge that gap between kids choices now and classical music. I think it is a perfect way for kids to realize not only that classical music is fantastic to listen to, but that they can also enjoy it as well. That spurs interest in kids joining orchestra and kids joining choir. I think you will increase the visibility of film music and classical music which will in turn increase, the probability of more orchestras being developed through different cities and having concerts and basically overall exposure that this genre of music needs and deserves
Of all of the movie soundtracks that you have gone through this is the first “movie” that I have actually thought in my head I really need to see this. So I am definitely going to look out for it. I am glad that Michael Kamen’s watermelon was ripe🤣🍉 because we are the better for it because his music throughout his short but wonderful career has been nothing short of amazing.
Thanks for the reminder about this captivating score. Haven't seen Dead Zone in thirty years.
Varese Sarabande had it first; it was part of their Little Box Of Horrors set.
Missed out on the Varese. Glad I was able to grab the Note For Note release.
We lost Richard Stone waaay too early.
Dorothea sounds like a delight.
She was as I mentioned we bonded over the scores to Medicine Man and Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves. Marian's Theme was my ring tone for her.
I don't know but I have wetness in my eyes.
You sort of nailed what I was thinking when I first heard the end credits, I had it in my mind that it was sort of a backwoods, even kind of hillbillyish. Having seen Pumpkinhead that sort of was the setting of the movie as far as I remembered at least. This movie gave new meaning to the saying, “be careful what you wish for”! I did enjoy the movie and what I vaguely remember of the score and your selections was that it was pretty decent.
As usual, there are many things that I want to say, but I will end up keeping this as short as possible, and the biggest thing I want to say is that I really wish that I had known Dorothy because she sounds like a wonderful person! I also have no doubt that God had a hand in your decision to watch Final Space, no doubt in my mind. That wonderful music at the very end, literally took my breath away and had me in tears. Until I saw those shark glasses and then I just laughed! God bless you Rob!!
Thank you for having the courage to share your story with everyone. We've had private conversations about your loss, and I'm sure telling it again doesn't make it any easier, but I'm glad you did. I haven't lost anyone in the same way that you have lost your father and your beloved wife, but I'd like to believe that telling their stories is one way to cope with the grief that will accompany you for the rest of your life. You'll never get over it, and neither should you.
There is a little bit to unpack for me here so I will try to be succinct. First off I can definitely tell you that Ravenous is not or would not be my cup of tea, so probably not gonna end up watching it. Second, listening to the pieces that I heard did not overly impress me. To be honest, they felt like they would be more for a medieval film than for what they were used for. However, on the good side, I totally agree about the save our soul Lisa piece. I am sitting here at midnight and I was visibly shaking when I heard that song. Just from what I have listened to that’s probably the best track on the score. And I totally agree with you about Robert Carlisle, I have only seen him in a handful of things, but every single time I have ever watched him he has been really good, especially as a villain. And lastly, I am thinking that it might be a good idea to make a list of composers that people have not heard of and maybe make a video about these composers and some of their scores that they have put out. People like Fernando Velasquez, Diego Navarro, Mac Quayle, Carlos Rafael, Rivera! Just a suggestion. Cannot wait for the next video.♥️
Ravenous is an amazing underrated film. Definitely deserves to be better known. Nyman and Albarn's score stands out in the best way, perfectly meeting the film's shifting tone. Nice one, Rob. Live to eat, don't eat to live, as Carlyle says in the film.
Is the that brown bag reference aimed at a Canadian politician, who you're not naming?
To be honest I don't remember. It was a Canadian politician from a couple of years ago.
Never got round to 'Ravenous'...
You are missing out. It is one of my Halloween favourites. Check it out.
Hey, Thanksgiving isn’t until November😂😂!! I love the commentary on lost media and I think it absolutely links to education because unfortunately these days we do a lot of things in school but educating our children is not one of them! If they learn to appreciate history, I think that that increase in history would also increase an interest in preserving it
For some reason, at first I thought this was about the 1922 silent film Haxan. Then I read the title properly. I'm not a gamer, clearly.
This guy got an advance review of the fucking assignment, public access was wonderful.
I definitely would have watched this back in the day!
Thanks...I've come a long way since then.
I have to say that you learn quickly my friend because your demeanor was a hell of a lot better! And what you said about that game was exactly what I was thinking before you said it! It just seemed to me that the graphics were just way off, below what you would expect from that time. Definitely not a game I would be interested in. Anyways, it sounds like you did a pretty good job on this review as well.
We never had this game...in 1995 I was playing X-Wing which didn't look nearly as sophisticated as this.
