A place to celebrate sports and history by telling stories you might've never heard of.
Lost in Sports History - Doc White - The best dentist to ever play pro baseball #baseballhistory
In the early 1900s (also known as The Deadball Era), Doc White was one of the most dominant pitchers around. Unlike Julius Erving, Dwight Gooden, Doc Rivers or Doc Blanchard, White was an actual doctor. But Doc White's life was about much more than even dentistry and baseball.
As promised in the episode, here's the link to the song that Doc White wrote called, "Gee, It's a Wonderful Game" - ruclips.net/video/G3s55yB_fak/видео.htmlsi=FPmaCpPjX611UXQa

Sports Story from a Random Date - May 19, 1947 - Goodnight, not-so-sweet prince
Просмотров 642 месяца назад
The story of Hal Chase is one that doesn't get told very often because it doesn't exactly have a super fun ending. Chase revolutionized the first base position, but couldn't get along with teammates, managers, or even his family. To top it all off, he had a gambling addiction that cost him his career, made him a pariah and erased all of the great things he did on the diamond. patreon.com/toddon...
Lost in Sports History - Earl Lloyd, the Jackie Robinson of the NBA
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.2 месяца назад
Nearly everyone in America has heard of Jackie Robinson, but nearly no one could tell you who was the first player to break the NBA's color barrier. This video is about Earl Lloyd, a humble man that came from a segregated high school in Virginia and went on to do much, much more than just become the first black man to play in an NBA basketball game. patreon.com/toddonsports toddonsp...

Ferguson Jenkins was more than just a really good pitcher that played for a lot of really bad teams and had two last names and he spent a few of his off-seasons showing that he could do more than just strike out batters - something he was elite at. toddonsports toddonsports patreon.com/toddonsports

In this series, I'll be letting a randomizer choose a date from the 1900s and I will go back to the sports pages and tell you a story that you likely have never heard about. Today's story is about two of college basketball's greatest scorers in one of college basketball's great venues for one special night in Kansas City. www.patreon.com/toddonsports toddonsports toddo...

Nicely Done!! Love these type of Topics 😎 was wondering if you’d cover the stories of the lesser known ABA stars .. like outside of the ones we’re already familiar with like iceman, Dr J, Moses Malone, Dan issel etc.

SOMMERS daughter Blanche was , for many years, Assistant Dean of OU's College of Pharmacy. I believe she also served as Interim Dean. I think she taught History of Pharmacy for many years.

@@mitchconner2021 Thanks for taking the time to watch it!
@@toddonsports I have an idea for a video I think OU fans would love. A story of those 1950s teams that went undefeated. Not alot is known about that team by most OU fans today. We've had so many other great players since then I feel like people forget those guys who built the Monster.
@@mitchconner2021 I like it! I've got another story from around the same time as this one that I'm working on, but I'll put that on the list.
This was great, well done!
Appreciate that. Thanks for checking it out. 🤙🏻
Very interesting story. I’ve always your tidbits segment on the radio.
Thanks! It's been a fun research project for sure!
That was actually pretty da** interesting. I had heard of Frank Selvey, and I had heard of Bevo Francis, but I didn't realize that either had eclipsed 100 points. I recognized several of the names in the All-Star rosters. I found it curious that they (or maybe it was just you) pronounced it as "Rye-oh Grand" rather than "Ree-oh Grand" but I imagine you researched how they pronounced it.
@@StevenDietrich-k2w Thanks for the kind words! I probably should've mentioned it in the video, but Rye-oh is the correct pronunciation, which is still weird to say for a guy that grew up in such proximity to Texas. Glad you liked the video!
Thanks Todd!
