Portable AC Dual Hose Conversion
Take a single hose AC and turn it into a more efficient dual hose unit.
Single hose portable AC units are inefficient because they draw cool air from inside through the condenser coil and then pump that air outside (after the condensor heats the air). This creates negative pressure inside the room. The latter causes hot air from elsewhere to be pulled into the room that is being cooled.

OM642 Swirl flap deletion DTC error code 2513-000 fix
Thank you very much for such informative videos! Is the sound around 20:15 normal for this engine? I just bought a Mercedes with this engine and thought there was some air leak in the system (no fault codes). The sound seemed like something is leaking air at exactly the same spot.
I still would advise you to consider all pro and cons. New motor is not that expensive and the flaps improve low-end performance. So cutting the corners will hit you back, even you might not notice with with gentle driving. Had the same issue on W211 cars. They had vacuum engine management (darn pneumatic computer) and over the years unqualified mechanics bend, kinked, broke the fittings. So whole forum jump on the idea of deleting the system and have the engine running in default mode, instead of performance mode. All for saving some time to do it right and $5-10 on new vacuum fittings.
Well you should do what you are comfortable with. In my case it was the flap mechanism, not the motor that failed. It sells as one piece with a new intake manifold at over $1000. There are low cost aftermarket mechanisms but I didn’t want to gamble with those. Ironically I noticed an increase in fuel economy and available power after taking the flaps out. Probably because the valves were not opening and closing all the way. Around 30mpg in mixed driving, just about as advertised
@@DIY-VIDEOSGood luck dear friend. Await for Soot in your exausht and future problems.
@@markamd1 I appreciate the feedback and weighing the pros and cons is good advice. So for those considering this, also take a look at the aftermarket mechanism option (or a new manifold) and decide what's best. For me it was either this or the junkyard LOL
better to just use a window ac
Hey just want to say by your video you just help me replace everything that you just did in this video man thank you so much you helped me just replace my window regular
Glad it helped you. Thanks for leaving a comment!
What size pipes are used for the fuel? I need to replace one, I think it’s the same size as the right fuel filter pipe
Sorry I am not sure. I was able to reuse them
Hi everyone, I am in Australia and I have a vito 120cdi with the same engine . I have the oil leak problem from the cooler amd I toke to a mechanic to do the job , I sent him your videos, see how’s goes.
Let me know what happens. Good luck with it!
Awesome Video, been a Mechanic for years, But never did a timing belt on a Fiat 500 and now need too. Learned a lot ! Thanks !
Glad to hear it was useful. Thank you for your comment!
How did you remove the swirl flaps? I’m struggling to get mine out! 😂😂
It was a pain lol. I just used pliers and remove as much of the flap metal as possible from the shafts, just keep ripping of pieces. Then with the flap metal mostly gone pull them out through the hole.
@@DIY-VIDEOS I’ve been following your videos step by step and so far, so good but these swirl flaps are a nightmare! I’m hoping I’ll be able to get them all out, I’ve managed to break one swirl flap off but the pin isn’t budging 🤔
Press any remaining flap metal tightly against the shaft so it will fit through the shaft holed. Then with some force you can pull the shafts out. It takes a lot of force but you can do it by hand with some good pliers
@@DIY-VIDEOS thank you so much! I just hope the reinstallation will go to plan! 😂😂 I’m hoping to get it done in a day or two
Should I remove and clean my current intakes or buy new intakes and remove the swirl flaps plus resistor mod
I would just clean them. The only reason to buy new ones is if you want a new swirl flap mechanism since it comes with the manifold. If you are going to remove the swirl flaps anyway I would just go with the old ones
Thank you so much , I am getting the M55 code when I floor it past 80mph and it’s triggering limp mode but no CEL . I delete the codes and the car acts normal , it’s 2008 E320 with 286k miles
Do you think it could withstand the outdoor ?
There is a special outdoor version of the epoxy. If you use that it should last a very long time. Look into outdoor stain as well underneath
Nice effect, looks refreshed and more modern :) I always appreciate if you talk and explain :) Would be nice :D
Thank you! I’ll plan to narrate more in the future. Appreciate the feedback
does it already come with the clip? If so how do you remove the clip in preparation for installing a new one?
Yes the original clip is metal. Metal or plastic, the old clip breaks and usually gets stuck in the track. I found two old ones in the passenger side window. These need to be removed but this is easy to do when taking things apart as shown.
How long did the stain dry?
The stain was overnight and the epoxy cures in about 24 hours. It cures slowly and you cannot put anything on it for another 3 days or so or it may leave a mark
Thanks for explaining where the signal wire goes.
No problem!
Thank you for this Fiat 500 Window Track clip installation video. The instruction to remove the metal plate (with the 3 screws) at the edge of the door makes the whole process much much much simpler! A couple of years ago I installed a clip on the passenger side and I fought with it like it was an MMA fight! Now the Driver's side was a breeze compared to that. Thanks again.
You are welcome. Glad it helped!
How has the fix held up. No more limp modes
Perfectly. Never had a limp mode again and plenty of power
@@DIY-VIDEOS when are you planning to do mine? Second time should be easier
Hi what did you do with the motor? Did you reinstall or did you leave it off?
I bolted the swirl flap motor back into the same place but it is completely disconnected. The linkages are gone and the wire is not connected either. You can just leave it out
Perfect thankyou! I've got to carry the oil cooler seals on my jeep in the next week or two, I'm dreading removing the turbo and elbow due to having what look like less space! Any tips? Thanks again
@@yahrudeboiI have a video on the turbo removal. Hope that helps, good luck with it
@@DIY-VIDEOS I've watched it many times! And the rest of your videos! How long would you say it took you in total?
@@yahrudeboiawesome, thank you. It took two evenings to remove the turbo. Several weeks on the whole thing but I was working a few hours a day after work. I would say the turbo is hardest. The rest is just time consuming and need to keep track of how to reassemble
Thank you SO MUCH for showing the damn bolt lengths. I messed up my cardboard pattern and couldn't figure out the two medium length bolts!
Glad it was helpful lol. It’s the main reason I made these videos, so I’d know how to put it back together
genius idea! saves welding😉
Thanks! 👍
@@DIY-VIDEOS is yours a coupe mate? ive got the c207 e350 and looking to do this swirl flap delete soon as my oil cooler seals need done. currently have the egr blanked off and the dpf gutted makes a big difference 😎

@@DIY-VIDEOS ahh nice mate. cheers🤘🏼
Thank you,for all the torque settings I’ve used from your video, good job🙏🏻👍
Glad it was helpful! Appreciate the feedback
great video
Thank you!
I've seen a lot of people online saying epoxy won't properly bond to oiled wood surface. Still considering it though, how well is this holding up for you months later? Any signs it wants to peel away?
It’s held up fine. No signs of peeling. The instructions said it could be applied over oil stain. I also have one I did nearly 10 years ago over oil stain and it is in perfect condition today
Thanks for the instructions!
You bet!
Well done on the video, you make it look possible even for me with limited experience at things of this level.
Thank you! Definitely DIY doable, just take your time with it
Best video showing this procedure I've seen. Thank you for this, it will definitely be my guide to doing it myself!
Thank you for your feedback!
Best Video so far explaining the starter on Fiat 500. Thank you very much. .
Glad it helped, thank you!
….dang that wire!!😂 great video! Thanks!
Appreciate the feedback!
what kind of epoxy and where did you get it? table looks sweet
Thank you! The epoxy is called famowood glaze coat. I got it at home depot
Nice video series, I've got one of these powering my Toro reel mower but it's lost spark standing still over the winter. Tried the usual culprits but to no avail, would you happen to have a repair or parts manual? The points seem good but i might as well try to replace them and i saw you did yours. Would be appreciated. Best regards from Belgium
Appreciate the feedback. Make sure the coil is still good and all the wires are attached. If you rotate the flywheel you should see the points move. Hope you get it working! Here is the manual: resources.kohler.com/power/kohler/enginesUS/pdf/tp_2379.pdf
@@DIY-VIDEOS Thanks for the swift reply and the manual link, the points do move when turning the engine over and the space between them is within spec. I'll print the manual and get to troubleshooting when I get home from work. As you rightly suggest I'm afraid the coil may have gone bad (or some wire got corroded or loosened to the point where it no longer contacts properly). Will follow up on this if I get it to run!
@@DIY-VIDEOS I had to wait for a harmonic puller set to come in (only have metric on hand here in Europe), got the flywheel off and it turned out it was just a wire of the coil that got loose. Thanks for the manual and the help, that's one 50+ year old reel mower back in business :)
Awesome, glad you got it working!
So pleased you showed the EGR cooler O ring and gasket being replaced (0.08), most don`t show it but it`s vital to replace that O ring. I had to do the job you`ve just done not to replace the oil cooler seals (of course i did those anyway) but to replace that O ring where the EGR connects it`s water gallery to the inlet manifold. It`s failure produced a massive water leak which went from a few drips to not being able to keep coolant in the engine at all in a week. This was om642 in Jeep Grand Cherokee which was a complete bastard to just get the turbo off. (no room for tools between the firewall and engine) Got it done in the end but took 3 days. 1 whole day just to remove the turbo,,, Lots of blood on Knuckles,,,
Appreciate the feedback! The turbo removal on this car was a pain too. Very little room to work. It was the hardest part to do
Where did you get the water pump kit
Autozone. Kit is by Duralast
@@DIY-VIDEOS A lot of people say the duralast quality isn't good and that you should get OEM parts, so not sure I'd go there even with warranty. How long did this take you in all? Shops want to charge a fortune and none around me have experience with this or the tools for it.
The duralast has a Dayco belt I believe. I think Dayco makes the oem belts too but not sure. The whole thing took me two evenings. The hardest thing is dealing with the engine mount but definitely doable DIY. Just don’t rush and it would be best to have a garage to work in
@@DIY-VIDEOS Thanks for the info. From what I can tell in a search, the OEM belt was made by Gates in England, not sure if that's still the case in parts coming from mopar in the US, the Dayco is made in china. I looked up reviews of belt brands and gates was number 3, dayco is number 7 so they're not rated too bad, there are many rated way worse. My house didn't come with a garage sadly, so it's either fix it in the street in front of my house or pay a fortune to have it done.
After reviewing some pictures, it looks like the kit actually came with a Gates T345 belt. Either way I think what matters most is proper tension and correct install. You can do this repair outside as long as you have a bit of room and some time to work.
Simple, nice work
Thanks!
At what torque should the EGR cooler be tightened to the collector?
I found this on some forum at the time but I am afraid I am unable to find it back. Sorry about that
you can buy ready-made capping kits.
Good to know, thank you
@@DIY-VIDEOS Do you have the torque to tighten the screw on the orange band that goes into the turbine?
I don’t have a number but don’t over tighten this. In my case the previous person over tightened it and it caused the plastic to break
Great work, congratulations, so what's next? Blessings.
Thank you! Next is trying this in the vehicle. I have been busy with a bunch of other projects but this will be coming up
I was watching your video and enjoying the step by step process, when all of a sudden, a message popped up from youtube. The message stated that the comments I made pertaining to your video were against their community standards!! To be quite honest, this is the first comment I'm making about your video!!! Anyway, you've done an awesome job with that deck and I look forward to more DIY projects from you. Respect and best wishes.
Wow, strange maybe a glitch in the algorithm? Anyway, appreciate the feedback!
Useful playlist. Thanks!
You are welcome. Glad it was useful
Best tutorial ever. Thank you
Glad you found it helpful. Appreciate the feedback!
I feel like there is 75% you are leaving out as far as this repair is concerned
Is it just copper gaskets or would ther need to be any sealant asded? Thanks just had turbo damaged on fathers e320cdi was considering do it myself, great video!
They are all metal gaskets, no sealant. I only used some anti-seize on some of the exhaust bolts but this is optional and requires different torquing. Appreciate the feedback!
How is oil cooler seal
I am not sure I understand the question. It’s working good today. I used the purple newer type o-ring seals
Is the egr a water cooled egr
Yes
@@DIY-VIDEOS can this egr leak and cause coolant to drop
It is possible. The EGR cooler water line has a metal gasket on one side where it mounts to the manifold and a rubber o-ring on the other side. The o-ring is more likely to leak than the gasket. I am not sure if this is a common problem though
@DIY-VIDEOS I had a mechanic that did a water test and the pink water turned orange meaning gases are mixing with water..he said egr can crack inside causing this leak..so may have to replace the egr? Or just the cooler? Thenks
In this case you should be able to just replace the EGR cooler. The EGR cooler is downstream from the EGR valve so I doubt it would affect the valve. But since the EGR cooler is under the intake manifold it is a pretty big job to replace
How long was the removal process?
The hardest part is removing the turbo because the bolts are hard to get to. It took me about 3 evenings of 3 hours or so each to take it all apart
Just the video I was looking for, thanks
Glad it was helpful. Thank you for your feedback!
Hi, when you installed the crank locking tool, did you set it to top dead center? I have the same tool and it doesn’t line up when at TDC
I don’t think it was top dead center. I attached the 3 bolts at the crankshaft and then rotated slightly until the hole in the lever of the tool lined up with the housing bolt hole so I could put the bolt in to secure it. The tool just locks the crank in place, I don’t think it matters how it’s rotated as long as you secure the cam too before taking the timing belt off so that they both stay in same position. Hope that helps
@@DIY-VIDEOS problem is, the car I’m working on has bad timing so lining up and locking in doesn’t work. The car doesn’t start. At TDC, the lever side of the tool is like at 10 o clock
That’s tricky. I am sorry I don’t know how to deal with that. Hope you get it sorted out
It doesn't line at TDC. the crank tool has 2 faces, you check you are using the correct one?
Also the cam gear has some space to move sides when attached to the camshaft, I once solve a similar problem putting it in the exact center, no touching any of the sides, hope it helps
