    This is good, Neeraj! I was a little bit worried - only at first - because that opening paragraph example reads similarly to many of the boilerplate cover letters we get. It'll be up to the candidate to really make that "Reason" shine. The specific examples in the proceeding paragraphs were great though. I often encourage people to include a bit of that personal motivation in the opening paragraph too, especially if they're applying to a smaller company. This helps the reader immediately distinguish it from a copy/paste application. It could also be useful to talk about the format at the top and emphasize why the street address and phone number are important. Some people think they can leave them out when a job is remote without understanding that their physical location is still important to the employer. I think this is especially important if the candidate is originally from a country with a large outsourcing community because employers are inundated with applications from applicants who do not qualify for the job, based on location, and the candidate risks being accidentally misclassified.

    • @neerajmathrani
      @neerajmathrani 2 месяца назад

      Wow, thanks so much for your thoughtful feedback! I love your idea of including some of the personal motivation in the first paragraph to distinguish it from a generic application. I also agree that I should have mentioned the reason behind including the address, etc. and that leaving this information out could risk their application being accidentally overlooked. Thanks again for your valuable thoughts!

    Thanks for the insight but the process is bullshit and companies are mandating that everyone becomes an expert resume writer; whihc is likely way outside of most people's skillsets. The ATS developers need to tone things back to allowing cusom resumes and hadnling things like multiple columns and tables (its not rocket science and they could easily do this); and stop being so restrictive regarding the exact terminology spelled out in the job descriptions because half the time or more the job descriptions do not match reality !!!!

    • @neerajmathrani
      @neerajmathrani 2 месяца назад

      I agree with you that ATSs need to become smarter, especially with all the recent developments in AI. Some ATSs have developed more, but other ATSs really need to catch up.

      You are right, there are cases when the boss has already made up their mind. Why write a fantastic self-review anyway? Best case - your boss gets the data they need to convince themselves and higher-ups that you deserve a raise. Worst case - you get data that this may not be the right company for you. Either way, it's a good moment to reflect, be proud of your accomplishments and leave a record of your great work :)

Interviews I have been invited to have been great, but there is an emptiness, like I wouldn't be happy at a new workplace because I don't feel like I'm done with my current company. It depends on the situation. Sorry, I feel like I'm giving a cop out answer. If I was in a situation where there was a clear violation of the company's code of conduct, I would escalate and tell my side of the story to HR. HR is supposed to listen, do due diligence (investigate, gather data, hear all sides of the story) and act accordingly. Depending on the severity of the situation and how things turn out, you may need to get legal help.

    Wow!! Mistake number 4 for real?! I’ve thought of maybe 7 out of 13 of these. The tough part about resumes when applying to soooo many jobs tho is what is discouraging I think since not all jobs are the same either and may require small tweaks to get ur resume through the ATS. I’ve found getting the resume through an app as well as somehow getting in touch with a recruiter and sending it to them helps too!

      Glad I shared some mistakes that you hadn't thought of :) Yeah, I came across mistake #4 when I was giving feedback on someone's resume last year. Making small tweaks to your resume based on the job and following up with the recruiter are smart moves, my friend!

    Turn your job interviews into job offers: coachingwithneeraj.thrivecart.com/ace-your-interviews/. I'm thinking of doing a live stream where I roast (er provide feedback on) some of your resumes for free. Would that be helpful to you?

    When I'm speaking with someone who ends their sentences with question marks, that's all I hear after a while - not what they're actually saying! Good tip, will check out that book.

      We all have egos since we're human :) In my experience, the great managers keep their egos in check and are open to receiving feedback. My hope is to inspire more managers to be open since it leads to building trust and even increasing productivity!
