pretty much everyone makes that mistake with Kelly the first time around, because how could helping the refugees ever be a bad thing? its one of the few paragon choices that has horrible consequences. also, curing the genophage is such an easy choice when Wrex and Eve are amazing characters and the dalatrass is incredibly unlikable. Even when Wrex and Eve aren't around my dislike for the dalatrass makes me want to cure the genophage.

The Reapers coming to Earth at the very start of the game is even scarier once you realize Earth is on the outer edges of the Milky Way. Compared to someplace like the Citadel, since they've had to resort to slower movement through space towards the galaxy, Earth was ripe for the picking. And the visual of hundreds of Reapers descending on the Earth really fulfills the promise Sovereign made back in ME 1: "We are legion. Our numbers will darken the skies of every world." Also: 46:22 ...Yeah, I'm not gonna say anything here. 3:01:12 I think ME 3 retconning some choices was a prelude to what happened with Veilguard. Granted, that game was originally planned to include more of our past choices (likely before being told to simplify things for new players), whereas here it's just...to keep Anderson as the Commander. For some reason.

It's kind of odd seeing someone play Veilguard before ME 2, because the Illusive Man is like a prototype for Solas in a way: a potentially antagonistic figure who will offer advice and knowledge on your quest through occasional meetings, with some disagreements arising due to differing approaches on the central issue of the narrative that can either be resolved relatively amicably or through a firm rejection. Of course, Illusive Man isn't exactly as devious as Solas, but still rather threatening in his reach.

1:43:54 In case you're wondering why all the other Reapers look like squids even though they consumed different species, it's like embryonic development in a way. When humans develop in the womb, we transform from multicellular organism to fish-like creature to eventually a human anatomy, essentially going through the stages of evolution as we mature (it's why we have a tailbone). But for Reapers, the equivalent to our fish-like appearance as an embryo would be that of whatever species it harvested, eventually maturing into the robot squids we know & love over time. The concept art originally stressed this idea more, but I guess they decided to go for a more overtly skeletal look because of how uncanny it is.

I'm gonna say it: this franchise has my favorite alien designs in any media. It manages to capture the worldbuilding depth of Star Trek combined with the more unique designs of Star Wars. The turians and krogan especially are just such a marvelous pieces of creative design that, as far as I'm concerned, has never again been topped. No other aliens come close to being distant enough from humans yet still making me want to be friends with them. And the Reapers themselves are one of the best villains in gaming. Granted, I have issues with them later down the line, but the Sovereign speech is the point where everyone really falls for this series. "You exist because we allow it, and you will end because we demand it."

Cole saying, "They made bodies from the earth, and the earth is afraid. It fought back, but they made it forget." is a hint to Solas's regrets in Veilguard. Thank goodness I binge-watched your entire Inquisition playthrough. Helped me remember all the fantastic lore dumps that the game had to offer.

The kid is NOT REAL. That's Harbinger/Catalyst or whatnot in Shep's head. Look at all those military types around. They don't pay any attention to the kid. When it comes to kids and disaster, they get scooped up out of harm's way. If anything, they'd pick him up first and put him on the shuttle first. But no. He gets up there himself. Everyone is oblivious. The Reapers are messing with Shep's head trying to guilt trip to let doubt creep in.

That really set the pace for the 3rd one.
