I make videos about travel and photography
3 tips for better results with your zoom lens
#zoomlens #photographytips #leica #copenhagen
In this video I talk you through some tips and tricks when shooting with a zoom lens. Zooms and primes have their specific use case in photography and it is important to know when to use one over the other.
I also talk about how zooming is not the same as moving around - therefore I encourage you to use your zoom with more intention.
Make sure to watch till the end, since I also share some tips on how to shoot in unpredictable environments and how you can find your favorite focal length.

Keep going🎉❤
Bro missed the skater
Niiiiiice great spot
Yes, really cool location!
which camera that you take this video ?
Sony ZV-E1 with 24mm f1.4 GM
👌👌👌
I hope no ladies with skirts have passed by
Great scene, thanks for sharing things like this, it teaches to see and inspires a lot
Great, that‘s the plan, happy you find it useful!
That is brilliant🎉
I do a lot of hiking and cycling in Europe. After a lot of experimentation, I’ve settled on Sony 6700 for still shots, Osmo for any moving shots as it delivers way better stabilization and image quality vs the Sony, and iPhone for run and gun people shots as it is the quickest to whip out from my hip pocket and provides the best exposure of faces.
Sounds like a perfect combo!
You hit the nail on the head. I have a Sony 6700 and have found the stabilization with the 16-50 kit lens does not work well and many of the images are not as sharp as I like. However, the solutions are to move to a prime lens that is much less compact than the zoom or to move to a much bulkier lens or gimbal, which negates the whole point of having a compact APSC camera. I have found myself turning more and more to my Osmo pocket for video which I find much sharper than the Sony and using my Sony as only a stills camera. I do a lot of hiking (e.g. Camino de Santiago in Spain, Laugavegur Trek in Iceland) and a compact form factor is something I cannot compromise on. I wish Sony had upped the quality of the new 16-50 Mark II zoom as this would have been a perfect solution. The Sigma 18-50 recommended by nearly every Vlogger is sharper than the Sony kit lens but does not have stabilization and is too big. First world problems, I guess.
Well the OP3 is really unbeatable, when you are okay with the 20mm fov especially when you introduce camera movement But that sounds like a very powerful combo you got!
You just gave me content idea
Great, enjoy!
I love these videos, this photo was especially good, please keep making content :)
I will, glad you enjoy it!
Very valuable lesson, feel like I walk with while learning from you
Glad to hear that!
Is Nikon Zf with 28-400mm too big for everyday ndbonly setup you have? I might want to add 14-30mm too. Z6III has bigger grip but they say the dynamic range is lower like APSC, not sure if ts true
By the way, my name is Johnny and I'm a freelance logo designer, would you love to have a logo for your channel to have a dedicated branding image your audience can remember you with and also print on your merchs and works too? Let me know if you interested and I would love to design it for you! :-)
It depends what you shoot I guess - could be a good combo for landscapes. For my style of shooting it would probably be too big. The Z6III has slightly less dynamic range than the Zf - but I‘d say it‘s hard to notice in practice. But the Z6III makes up for that with much more speed, which can be handy. Also the ergonomics would lend itself more to the 28-400
Cheers, currently I‘m not looking into that but I keep you in mind should I want to get a logo in the future :)
I see I see, if you know anyone and business love to have a logo and artwork too, let me know! :-)
Nice!!
Thank you! Cheers!
I hope your channel grows fast!
That‘s very kind, lets hope for the best haha
Its about time that your videos are gonna be placed next to content creators that have + 200K subscribers. Awesome job
Not quite there yet, but working on it, it‘s a journey. Thanks for the feedback, highly appreciate the support!
Man I love your channel
Thank you! Highly appreciate it!
i love the photo, which leica did u use?
It‘s the M11 with a 75mm f2.5 lens :)
@leanderhoefler nice love the m11
Some flair is good but I think that’s too much. Looks foggy
Yeah, i agree, a bit strong for this photo!
Innsbruck
Good catch!
I dont get it... To me this is still just a photo of a piss stream
Fair enough 😂
To be honest with the 60 megapixels i would rather use a wide angle prime and crop in post 😁
Haha true, the high resolution is really perfect for working with primes!
amazing! what focal length did you use? this video convinced me that i should learn how to color correct haha
That was with 75mm Great, I‘m also planning a video on that topic in the future!
I prefer without or maybe with lens flare but only if it was a little smaller
I agree, it‘s a bit strong for the scene, but I will experiment with it further
Hey, love your videos. Totally feels like having a field lesson with an expert!
Oh wow, glad you like them!
Without the flare. It distracts too much from the main subject. Just my opinion. It’s fine either way, depends on who you ask lol. Great picture.
Yes I agree - think it is a bit too strong for this image. But I will experiment with it in the future maybe there‘s a way to find a happy medium
What camera would you recommend for talking head videos ?
Definitely the ZV-E10 II with the Sigma 16mm f1.4 or Sony 15mm f1.4 - can‘t really beat that combo
I prefer it with the lens flare!
For me it‘s maybe a bit too strong
I think less flare could work, but IMHO, this one obscures too much of the other detail.
Hi i am a new subscriber here :) i was wondering in your videos. Or a video like this (when youre talking) which camera and lens did you use?
Replied to your other comments - it‘s the same setup for all those shots :)
@ i mean which camera and lens?☺️
Nice video :) but what camera were you using while filming this?
I use the Sony ZV-E1 with the 24mm f1.4 GM lens from Sony - but you would get pretty much identical results with the ZV-E10 II with a Sigma 16mm f1.4 for example. The gear doesn‘t really matter for those talking head shots, it‘s more about light and sound really.
Why you so handsome/pretty? Start a male beauty or looksmaxing channel, forget about gear, ahahah
Great
i love the aesthetic of the video! you're quickly becoming my favorite photography youtuber :)
Thanks for the feedback, really appreciate it!
Your color grade for your talking shot is insaneeee, can you do a video on how you grade
It‘s on the list, thank you!
Underrated
hold the final result longer! Great photo and video
Thanks! Will do!
Looks a bit like the place from where the joker dances down the stairs
Haha true, would have been a crazy shot!
Brother The Bronx does not look this nice I promise you. 😅
5:29 was a helpful example too, I've tried those shots telling myself 'it's a balance of dark and light, like a yin yang (shady and sunny sides of a hill)'. But I agree they rarely feel aesthetically pleasing. It's interesting how tones aren't enough on their own to create balance, that subjects \ focal points are needed too. Although, it feels like some street photography (inspired by Saul Leiter or Henri Cartier-Bresson or similar) can get away with turning light and dark tones into a pleasing balance of shapes... It would be cool to hear you discuss that if you have any thoughts! Does the genre of photography make a difference to how we think about combining tricks ules?
That‘s a good question - I think the tricky thing with balance is that literally everything will have an influence. And yes, the genre definitely has an impact. If we compare landscape and portrait photography for example they usually are vastly different where the place the subject, what framing options they use etc.
Really loved the pairing of the thirds trick with the balance trick, that demonstration with the two horses was nice and clear.
Glad you found it useful!
Bro you good
Cheers!
That guy was a paid actor
Damn Thank you
Glad you like it!
Mines arriving this week, and your reviews along with 1 or 2 others have told me everything i need to know about the camera..Thanks sir 🙌🏽
Nice, you will enjoy it for sure!
Wonderful reviews sir, Incredible shots aswell by the way 👌🏽
Cheers!
absolutely love it! i recently started photography, i hope to take pictures like this one day
Keep it up, practice is key!
i love your work
Thank you! Cheers!
Thank you for a useful video
Glad it was helpful!
Nice shot! I’m thinking about getting a canon 80d with a 50mm f1.8 for street photography and for photographing vehicles! Keep up the work man!
Don‘t know if today I would still invest in a DSLR system tbh - maybe look for a used mirrorless camera, might be more future proof!
@@leanderhoeflerthanks for you reply man. I’ve been doing a lot of searching around online about some cameras mainly DLSRS. Do you think the 80d would still be a good option for street photography? Do you think the actual camera itself would be good for it?
I am using a smatphone Samsung S22+ and a action camera Insta360 Ace Pro for videos for the past year when I am traveling. I am now looking for upgrading with the Sony ZV-E10II. Do you think the quality of the videos will be much better ? Thanks
For traveling I‘d say this is already a solid combo - especially for stabilized footage. The ZV-E10 II would offer you much better low light performance if you are often shooting at night. Or if you really make use of the shallow DOF I can also see a benefit.
Thank you for your advice , have a nice day !
