Batman (NES) - Chid 255
Yo yo! Hey there! Today I've got a short episode for ya! I've been a little busy, because I've been on vacation in Tennessee for the past week. But I had a few hours to kill in order to finish up this review for Batman! This game gets a lot of praise, and I remember liking it a lot when I was still a kid. Let's see if I still like it and can recommend it!

SUPER Hard Games - Chid 255

Yo what's up RUclips! Today is an... interesting episode. We are talking about some of the hardest games I've come across throughout the years! I was expecting this one to be more painful than it actually was, most of these games are tough but pretty entertaining and well made. Anyway, hope ya enjoy, I'll see ya again in a few weeks! By the way, first time I've shown my face on here in 2 years!...

Here it is, the last Ys game for the first half of the marathon! Ys Seven is such a cool game. When I played it in 2022, the combat was great, it was fast, and it was crazy. The story was good too. But after 2 years and numerous Ys games under my belt, is Ys Seven AS good as I remember? Check out my other socials! X: ChidNutson Discord: discord.gg/x6YuHu943x Twitch: www.twitch.tv/ch...

Hell yeah, it's time for more Ys! This time we are looking back at Adols very first rodeo into trouble, Ys I&II! Specifically the remake made for the PSP, Ys I&II Chronicles. Is it good? It's Ys, of course it is. But does it stack up to what would come in the future? Ys Seven is next, and it will be the last until summertime. Sup guys! Today's review is on another Ys game! This time we're giving the spotlight to Ys 6. This one had a lot to live up to for me, considering I played this one right after Ys VIII, which was absolutely spectacular. Let's see how Adol's adventures continue in the next game in the Ys timeline! Next up is Ys I&II, which should hopefully be out in a couple of weeks. Oh and per usual, NO SPOILE...

Sup guys! I'm excited to present to you today's episode on Ys 8! When I last covered an RPG on this channel, Lunar: Silver Star Story, I was shocked by how good it came out. Not only that, the comments and responses I recieved from people relaying their experience with Lunar made me so happy. I wanted to review another game in this genre, and Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana felt like a perfect JRPG ...

I wanted to talk about my favorite game of all time, Castlevania Symphony of the Night. A review would take way too long, but I found an original video idea for this game which I think you'll enjoy! Another Castlevania down, thought this was worth logging as this was my first playthrough of this game, which I did on stream. It's a decent game, but one of the weaker Castlevanias in my opinion. It's a re-imagining of Rondo of Blood, which is one of my favorite games of all time. It uses the same concept, Richter Belmont travels through Castlevania to kill the newly resurrected Dracula, it's ...

Finishing Castlevania month with a game I've never played before, Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth! The only way to get this game is via emulation or softmodding your Wii to play WAD files. Nintendo's digital store for the Wii was closed back in 2018, which was the only place to buy this game. A shame I didn't play this one sooner, as it's an awesome game! I loved Solstice as a kid... I never beat it😂
Small bit of trivia: The intro of YS II Eternal (and by extension Ys II Complete and Ys II Chronicles) was made by Makoto Shinkai. The one from Ys I eternal wasn't animated, and the one from Ys I Complete (and Ys I Chronicles) was made after he left the company.
I've heard that name before! He worked on Ys? That's awesome, no wonder the intro for Ys II was so cool haha!
@@chid255 He worked at Falcom for about 5 years. During that time he did the intro of other games, but that was at the end of his time on the company.
Ive been playing NES games since the systems debut. I have been very little of them on my own without cheats or the game genie.
There are some NES games I'll probably never even try to beat! My blood pressure has limits, LOL
Are you the how to make warm dr. pepper guy?
No... LOL
I had this game on my brazilian NES Clone, around1995. I loved the soundtrack. The only time I beat the game as a kid was thanks to a bug that made Batman invincible.
Never heard of this glitch before, would've helped a lot on the Joker back then!
I love when RUclips feeds me a smaller channel that I haven't seen before. Figured I'd help drive up engagement a bit with a comment. This was a great game. One of the first I ever played. I think it was the original Super Mario Bros game and then Batman. Like a core memory I have. Good stuff and great video
This was a really nice comment, thank you!
How is a 9mm gun shoot rockets?
I bet Batman made some special modifications for it! 9mm rocket rounds aren't impossible for this guy haha
Oh, the nostalgia this one brings 😁 This is one of the first games I have ever played when I was a wee kid 😂 And it is one of the reasons why I wanted to learn English as I could not understand a word that was written so I pestered my brother endlessly to read and translate to me and to also teach me as well 😁 Great review as always, thank you for this trip down the memory lane and now you have given me an idea what to play next as I have not beaten it to this day 😁 Keep on the good work 😁
That's a really cool story, thanks for sharing! Good luck with the Joker haha, I appreciate ya stopping by dude!
@@chid255 Well, it's time to defeat him after so many years 😂 Hopefully 😂😂😂 Maybe this time, I'll wiiiiiiin 😂😂😂 Nothing to it, I'll come back again 😁
Let me know how it goes! It's a tough fight but be persistent and aggressive and I'm sure you'll get em!
This game looks VERY close to one of my favorite NES games.. Vice: Project Doom! I bet it uses the same core engine!
Great review man! This game has been steadily moving up on my top NES games list, I think its one of the best games on the entire console!
It's definitely up there for me, maybe top 15 or bare minimum top 20!
couldnt you jump over the joker??
You can, but it won't doo much as he'll quickly turn around to attack or run away. If you actually jump into him and start punching, you'll be immune to contact damage. His lightning attack will miss too, so you get free shots until he runs away and tries to shoot his gun again.
Bro this looks great for the NES how did they make it look that good
It does look really impressive! I think this came out in 88 or 89 too
I wonder what you will think about the other Batman games on NES, Sega Genesis, SNES and Gameboy 🤔
I know the Sega Genesis ones are great. I have Batman Games written down as a potential video topic, might be a cool episode!
@@chid255 are you talking like a super episode will you cover all the Batman games are you talking about individually? Regardless i know you will do it justice
It'd be a compilation episode, kinda like Super Hard Games was. Covering a bunch of games briefly
@@chid255 BRILLIANT IDEA 💡
Now you're talking my language... Retro way back consoles and games. Excellent review as usual, chid
mars matrix I had the pleasure of playing it in the arcade... typical quarter dumper lol
Quarter dumper is an understatement! The US Department of the Treasury could fund maybe ~3 hours of Mars Matrix gameplay at the arcade.
@@chid255 lmaooooooo
Nice video, really enjoyed this! I’ve heard horror stories about Solstice but never have given it a try. I am, however, a big fan of Gaiares, but even I’ll admit that it’s an absurdly brutal shmup. Super GnG is probably the easiest mainline game in the series, but it’s also my favorite. Did you manage to finish up your second loop? Still need to try out Spelunky…
I'd like Gaiares a lot more if the levels were either shorter, or had more checkpoints. Too tedious to go back what feels like 10 minutes just for one mistake! I always considered Ghouls n Ghosts to be the easiest, at least if we're talking the Genesis version. Spelunky is awesome, you definitely gotta check it out! Thanks for watching dude, always a good day when my man Chris drops by!
Oh and I never did beat that second loop! That attempt must've been almost 6 years ago! Playing the game for the video really made me wanna go for it again!
@@chid255 Get on it!! 😂
I remember the Spelunky stream! That was a fun watch. Just noticed some of our carrot BS made it into this video. 🤭 Great list, even if it lacks ALF! 💕
That Spelunky stream was fun! Lol I was looking back on the carrot stuff, have L give you some corn next time, corn is the bomb! I already talk about ALF all the time in therapy by the way
For me, the one game that I remember to have driven me absolutely insane have to be Celeste (anything after the main story) I'm at the last 3 levels of the game but I have been losing my mind just playing it. One of the levels that I completed Chapter 7B alone took me 8 hours to clear. 3 hours alone was spent on this one section just dying over and over again just to get the platforming right
Wowee, yeah I wouldn't have the patience for that haha. 8 hours is pretty crazy!
Those shoot em ups that punish you for dying by sending you all the way back to the beginning of the level really grind my gears. Just respawn me in the spot I died and gift me a couple seconds of invisible frames, that's all i ask!
Exactly! It's already a fight for your life just to get that far, then one mistake and boom, gotta do all that again! At least in like Gradius you have quite a few checkpoints, and the levels are short. Gaiares has super long levels and only one checkpoint, so frustrating!
NES did make many hard games but in my opinion, SNES and Sega Genesis were more difficult then NES but by a narrow margin
The Genesis had some tough games for sure! Mostly because they almost always had limited continues, which wasn't quite as common on other consoles.
This is so awesome man! I really like this list. There is something about the mistique of finishing a crazy hard ass game. I always compare it to reading a book, because its a passive experience... but beating a hard game is like nothing else. I havent beat a single one of these but def put in alot of time in Mars Matrix, Soltice and Gaiares
There really is nothing like it, putting in all those hours, having to restart over and over again just to get a little further, finally seeing the ending is euphoric! Mars Matrix is one I'd love to beat one day, but it feels so much out of my league haha. I can't fathom how people are able to not die at least twice per minute!
the fact this was a portable game makes it all the more shocking
The PSP was such a powerhouse! Falcom really did a great job cramming so much on a little UMD.
I wasn't ready for Stone Cold Steve Dogi 😆
It was inspired by this video lol ruclips.net/video/bSib3cYTTD8/видео.htmlsi=EoRst4FIjTN8hytX
very nice job on this video! I have been wanting to play through this one, and this gets me hyped to dive in soon
You'll love this one, very high quality in every category! By the way, completely unrelated but you remember when I made Mike7a a birthday box last year? I think you were there for that unboxing. Anyway, I made him another box this year and put together a video explaining what it is. Thought you might wanna see it! I wasn't sure where else to reach you except right here in this reply, LOL. ruclips.net/video/kWI4dDRUyvA/видео.html
@@chid255 ooh nice! will have to check this out!
I came upon your channel a short while ago, and I was so happy to see someone cover Ys, as it is one of the best series for me out there with the combat, the dungeons and the music mostly being top tier 😁 It is always nice to hear someone elses opinion on these games and look at the things from a different perspective. Keep up the good work, can't wait for the rest of the series 😊
Thanks dude! Glad ya enjoyed the video! I absolutely agree with you there, especially the soundtracks, they're awesome! I've pretty much become an overnight fan of this series, and really pumped to check out the rest of them!
@@chid255 I'm glad that you enjoy them as well 😊 Honestly, Falcom as a company deserves more recognition in my opinion. I am also a huge fan of the Trails games, as well as Tokyo Xanadu, as it has gameplay similar to Ys. (So you would maybe like that one,not quite sure 😅😂) My brother showed me Oath In Felghana some 15 years ago,and the moment I finished it, I started looking for the rest of the games 😁 Now waiting for the Ys X 😁
Trails is on my radar, I'll definitely be checking out that series after Ys! Tokyo Xanadu I've heard of before but never saw gameplay of, I'll look into it! Oath is such a great game, I'll be covering that one in the summer for sure. I'm planning on ending the marathon with Ys X, it's actually the only new game I've ever pre-ordered, I'm 100% sure it's gonna kick ass!
@@chid255 Trails is sure a whirlwind and I know that it is not for everybody 😂 Although I love it dearly, flaws and all. People usually say Tokyo Xanadu is a mix of Ys and Persona (considering the social aspect of the game). And yes, I cherish Oath to this day,it was my gateway into the series, and it holds up to this day. It is up there with Ys VIII for me 😁 So can't wait for the review on it 😁 And yeah, as X goes, I think it's going to be phenomenal. I am ready to have my mind blown 😁
Your enthusiasm is contagious! 💕
Haha, few games get me as hyped up as Lunar!
I really enjoyed Ys I & II Chronicles despite not being too keen on the “bump” system . I still need to go back and finish Ys II on this collection. Thanks for the review man!
Yo Chris! Long time no see dude! How ya been? Yeah, bump combat did the job for me, but it doesn't come close to the action in future games. It's a lot better in Ys II because of the magic though. Thanks for watchin!
@@chid255 Yeah, I had no idea there was magic in Ys II until watching your video which makes me a lot more interested in playing it now. 😅
Great review! Deserves a lot more views! 🧡
Thanks! Maybe it'll pick up, maybe it won't, either way it seems like people are enjoying them! That's all I need!
Adol really fell off of the top of a tower and went "OH NO! anyway."
LOL, Only Adol can walk off a 2000ft drop with a good night's rest and some aspirin.
Awesome review man.
Thanks for watchin the video mate!
great review! muh adventure had me dying xD
Thanks! LOL, while I was making that image I was thinking, Dez is gonna love this one haha
Interesting! I always enjoy watching your reviews! 💜
Thanks Dru!
Leftie or Rightie?
very nice review dude! You are on a roll! This art style and overall gameplay is among my fav in the series. I just really like how the game looks. I agree the difficulty on bosses is crazy, I need easy mode on this lol
Oh yeah I've always loved the art style during this era of the series. It's weird to describe, but the characters almost look like they're made of clay? Like they'd fit well in a claymation movie haha. Some of the bosses were the toughest I've seen in the series yet. There's a HUGE gap in difficulty between normal and hard. For the final boss, there's this part with a bunch of lazers rotating around the screen. I saw this longplay of the game on normal, they do only 34 damage, compared to a lifebar of almost 600. On Hard, it's 230 damage, that gap is crazy! I wonder how it is on Nightmare.
Awesome video, very in-depth on the gameplay and it's good you didn't fully spoil the story. It's heaps of fun to watch review of RPGs that I'll probably never get around to actually playing.
Thanks! That's been one large aspect when recording these videos, making the spoilers as light as possible. For example, if you decided to one day give the game a shot, there'd still be quite a lot to uncover narratively! I just maybe spoiled a few of the more interesting parts, haha.
Great review man!
Thanks dude!
Happy 5th anniversary my man😊! Great vídeo and you nail The locations spots nicely (Love The Coliseum!) One thing about The "Ghost" (Specter) on saturn Cursed Prison, you can kill it with other stuff as well that is not Hit, Cut, Dark Or Curse as it absorbs but The other attributes it Just resists. The game devs never made enemies have more then 4 attributes assigned tô either weak, strong, immune Or absorb because it doesnt show in The bestiary so that left Specter only being Neutral tô Stone of all attributes (and water but its a dummied out attribute) however its a mind fuck situation cause nothing on ps1 absorbs Cut Or hit ( The closest are The slimes being immune tô Cut) as in The beginning of The game you will have only Cut, Hit and One Curse weapon tô use (good luck farming a Medusa Shield🥶🥶🥶)
I appreciate the kind words man! Haha I should've known you'd have a deeper insight on at least one of my talking points! It'd be a neat idea for a future Castlevania though, if maybe you had to use a certain type of attack or weapon to inflict damage on an enemy. As long as they don't go overboard with it! It's seriously impressive how much you know about this game. You can probably look at one pixel of a SOTN enemy, know what it is, what it's weak to, know who designed the sprite, and who coded the AI, know where those developers live, and know what they had for breakfast this morning! I was pretty lucky to have you during my SOTN run last year haha.
@@chid255 Yw my Man😊! Also... 🤣🤣🤣🤣👏👏👏👏 Dude if only i knew that entire 2nd sentence cause The devs had tô be in perfect shape tô make SOTN thats for goddamn sure! Oh Man that New Year SOTN stream was perfect! Couldnt ask for a better way tô pass a year 😊! About your challenge idea with being forced tô use One Attribute only in a run, as long as a mandatory boss isnt immune tô said Attribute then The run is possible (unless you are allowed tô change for these instances only). Holy is The absolute easiest one with Dark being The Hardest thats for sure.
Great video!
I love Ys VIII, it is a masterpiece. It was my first Ys game, and it blew me away. I'm planning on playing Ys IX soon, and I cannot wait for Ys X Nordics to release in the West as well! You're right about the music, I still listen to them to this day. You should check out the Ys VIII Super Ultimate album, which features full-arranged versions with new arrangements and recordings selected from the game's music-they are absolute bangers!
I can't wait for X as well! It's the first game in my life I'm gonna play day 1, I pre-ordered a copy haha. Ooooo, haven't heard about a super ultimate album, I'm gonna check this out right now.
Wow, thanks for sharing, this is absolutely incredible. Adding this to the description.
@@chid255 it is phenomenal, I love it a lot! im glad I mentioned it.
epic review man! I have started a bunch of Ys games, but the only one I have finished is Memories of Celceta on Vita. Really enjoyed it, would like to get around to this one at some point. The PSP games are pretty great too
It's surprising just how consistent the entire franchise is. They've all been pretty fantastic so far! Yeah the PSP had some dope Ys games like Seven and Oath in Felghana, Seven is still my second favorite in the series so far. Definitely recommend this one next though, it's an incredibly fun game with a damn good story (especially for an Ys title).
My copy of the game used to do the exact same thing!
Turned out to be the 6 button controller causing the game over, what a strange issue haha.
