314: Final attempt to provision in Rangiroa and a beautiful passage to Tikehau
In this episode, we attempt to provision by bike since the stores are very far from the anchorage, but our plan is thwarted by a stupid mistake. The next day we leave through Avaturo Pass and head to Tikehau, but the wind never picks up until we arrive at Tikehau Pass. Check out all of this and more in this video.

Просмотров 524День назад
In this episode, we give you an UPDATE on Duchess, our abandoned puppy moving to her new home, make an overnight sail from Toau to Rangiroa entering the Tiputa Pass, and fully explore the pass underwater...it's VERY different than back in 2008. Check out our video to find out why! We would MUCH appreciate your supporting our efforts by SUBSCRIBING, and giving a THUMBS UP, and SHARING our videos...
312: Sailing to Toau's False Pass to ride out a mini Maramu
Просмотров 86214 дней назад
After Duchess was taken away, we decided it was best to leave the anchorage and head north to the false pass, a fascinating geological rarity with great snorkeling. Here we learned a new skill and took advantage of free water to clean cushions as we waited for the elevated winds to return to normal. We would MUCH appreciate your supporting our efforts by SUBSCRIBING, and giving a THUMBS UP, and...
311: Sailing to Toau and Saving an Abandoned Puppy - ok
Просмотров 88321 день назад
We finally leave Fakarava and sail to Toau where we find both paradise and an abandoned puppy nursed back to health by passing cruisers. With the help of another cruiser, Vagabond-Voyages, we find a new home for Duchess, but before we can leave with her, something totally unexpected happens. We would MUCH appreciate your supporting our efforts by SUBSCRIBING, and giving a THUMBS UP, and SHARING...

285: LAND HO!!! Arrival in Hiva Oa, Marquesas
Just paid to have our saildrives serviced at Zimmerman’s Marine and they are leaking. Now watching this video to see if I can DIY. Boy that looks difficult
Oh no. That’s the worst! I am so sorry. You can do it. It’s not that bad!! You just need to have the proper lube and seals. I hate that you have to haul out again!! Our vid shows the step by step so you are good to go!!
Calking the darin? Really?
Brown went a little caulk crazy. 😂When we pulled the drain out there was a silicone layer so he wanted to replicate it. He figured it couldn’t hurt.
Another fantastic episode thank you so much for sharing this wonderful adventure. I think you did a good job going through both of those passes. It seemed to be really smooth.
Thank you so much!! Thankful we have not had bad passes yet!! Happy New Year!!
Great Recap of your adventures. You are both sailing experts now .
Thanks, Jeff. You are far more confidence in us than we have in ourselves!!
Good times! Miss the Tuomotus.
Fun one! Yeah…..pretty clear water! Thanks, Andrew
Thanks, Andrew. Happy New Year to you and Stanley!!
I’m glad I’m not the only one wearing the bike helmet backwards ! Go Brown !! Another fab video, thank you 🙏🏻! Happy Christmas and have a wonderful 2025 in French Polinesia ! 🎄
Ha ha. Nope!! People look at us crazy but I am thankful for the head protection especially in the remote islands!! Thanks for watching and commenting!! Happy New Year!! ❤️
Merry Christmas, my friends may all your wishes and dreams come true
Thank you and the same to you!! ❤️ Blessings on you and your family!!
Mary Xmas happy new year 🎉❤
Thank you and the same to you!! Thanks for all of your help this year! You are a champ!
Crazy seeing that FP cat slam the inlet. Looks stressful. Merry Christmas to both of you.
Right? I don’t know why they did it! It hurt watching it. Merry Christmas!! We love you guys and are so thankful for you!! ❤️
Living my Walter Mitty life through you guys. Merry Christmas!!! Love ya! Stuart
Ha ha ha. Merry Christmas. Lots of love to you and your family. Thanks for all your support!!
Merry Christmas to you both, Muriel and Michael
And a very Merry Christmas to you both. Thank you SO much for your unending support!! ❤️
Another fun episode! Merry Christmas to you folks! Be safe….am envious of all the long-renowned dive sites you are hitting! Thanks, Andrew/Stanley
Merry Christmas, Andrew!! We surely are getting to the famous dove spots this year!! Thanks for being such a great support! Love to you and Stanley! ❤️
很棒
Thank you!
Did superman put that filter on?
LOL. Clearly!!! 😂
Toothbrush.. hilarious
Ha ha. I was waiting for someone to comment on that! Well done, JK!
Thanks, fun episode! CrZy current and viz!
YES!! The currents and Viz were the most influenced in any place we had been. I guess when the water comes over the reef at the SE end continuously, then it's always outgoing current and bad viz. Thanks for always watching!! :)
Wow what a beautiful place. Amazing how those fish traps work. Thank you for another awesome video
Thanks for always being here each week!! Yes, the fish traps are crazy....hard to see the tropicals in there! :(
What is that huge thing at 14.49? Some kind of sea slug? Surely not part of the coral as I thought it was moving.
It is called a pineapple sea cucumber. It's one of my favorites to see!
@@EileenCouncill Ty for always responding! Helping me to realize all in due time. It’s amazing how following your channel has taught me so much about boat life, the challenges & the letting go. Great to know my sailing crew has you to connect with. Happy sailing & thanks for keeping it real.
@@annwild8577 OF COURSE!! Thank you for always asking great questions!! I am so glad you are enjoying our channel and YES - we LOVE connecting with your sailing crew!! Merry Christmas!!
Love the videos!
@@xfernandez11 Thank you so much for watching and your comment!
Oh my, those waves!!!
RIGHT???
Brown, glad to see that you are still using butyl tape for this type of work.
We learned from the best!! Why change a good thing? We miss you guys!!
Good thing the fast current didn’t take Brown away, since he tends to be quite useful on the boat, hey …😜Another great vid, good work!
LOL. EXACTLY!!! We can't lose the captain then the Admiral would have no one to boss around!! HAHAHAHA
Butyl tape or putty MUST be on board, trust an old plumber. Used for through-hulls or any holes through decks, sinks, etc....
We feel the same way! We always have a big wheel of it!! Thanks for the confirmation!
what's that product called
Butyl tape
Oh the joys of a stuck on fuel filter fun fun fun
Ha ha. Right? But he got it off!!!
Those were THE BEST of times with Duchy in Tuoa!
They were. Thankful for the memories.
What a wonderful episode glad to see you having fun with Dutch. That place is almost as beautiful as all those beautiful smiles you share with us thank you so much
Aw thank you!! Duchess is amazing and the island she lived on is one of the prettiest!!! Thanks for your comment!!
Duchess is gorgeous !!!! ❤🐕
❤️❤️❤️ Such a sweet one!!
When the time comes you can replace that windlass remote with a cheap Amazon wireless 4x4 winch remote.
Ah thank you! We will need to do that one of these days!! Wireless would be good!
Interesting, do you have a link for ?
I think this is the one we have but have yet to install! a.co/d/dzBayWG
@@SailingBlownAway Thank you very much, I'll keep this link in the right place even if it's not in my country. The idea and the description are more important. At $26, it may not be great quality, but if it does the job, so much the better. Note that you have to connect it to the solenoid, there's no power relay inside (fortunately). If you take care to insulate the connections, it should be fine. Your remote control, it can be anything from false contacts in the buttons to (and I've just experienced this) the cable that ends up breaking internally. It's a vicious fault, one minute it works, the next it doesn't. Best regards, Philippe Edit : I've found same product in France for same price.
Wow thanks for your recommendations. We really appreciate them. Best of luck! I hope yours works out well and I am glad you found one in France!
Oh that pizza looks yummy yummy yummy
Ha ha. It was. Brown is the master chef!!
How about an orderly line with a limit on how much produce you can take per person? What if you cast a net over the table? 😁 There must be some good fights there!
What a beautiful video. I enjoy it. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you!! One of our fave places on earth!
One of my favorite places ❤!
Always nice to start my Sunday morning with one of your videos ! ❤️
Aw, thank you!! You are the best!! Lots of love! ox
That’s such a feast! And here I was thinking that sailors wouldn’t have access to all of that …Good food , lots of people , great weather …what’s not to be thankful for ?! ❤️
YES!! Exactly!!!
Wow what beautiful places. Do you think they will refurbish the outdoor temple maybe try to fix the seats or something it was absolutely beautiful I know it wasn't painted up like the other temples but still it was beautiful. It seems like you have become a professional with the parasailer. Thank you for sharing those beautiful smiles stay safe and have fun
Amazing, right? I would LOVE it if they would refurbish that outdoor church, but I would be surprised if they had the money to do so. We are getting better and better with the parasail, but it's still so tricky...much easier with three people! Thanks for always watching and commenting! ;)
Fun video….ok, I bought the cool zinc sun block….and I purchased the box of oils….but heck, now I have to buy a loctite stick? The liquid is a waste of time on zinc replacements. Stand down Brown, I am over my budget! Good recommendation anyhow, will try it! Thanks, fair winds, Andrew
HAHA...You are going to go broke watching our channel! HA..and we don't even get kick backs! LOL. Thanks for letting us know that it's a waste of time on the zincs. We had no idea! Have a great week, Andrew!
Looks like fun❤ Happy Thanksgiving to all of yall😊
Thank you!! It was a great time!! Happy Thanksgiving!! We hope your celebration was great!!
Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you so much!!
wouldn't it be smarter to take the covers off of the cushions when you're doing this??
I guess you can but the way we do it we don’t have to. Also then we are more likely to break a zipper if we take them off the cushion.
That grouper at your feet begging like a dog was hilarious. What a fantastic video
Hey there. Thanks for your comment and watching!! Wasn’t that grouper the best??? 😂
Fun times! Enjoyed, thanks, Andrew
Thanks, Andrew!! We appreciate you!! ❤️
WOW! I feel like a celbrity having visited and now featured in this episode. You both are amazing at condensing it all in short videos. Looking forward to more. Praying that all goes well with refit process. What a great place to hang out.
Ha ha. You are a celebrity!! More next week when we head to Kauehi!! So fun to be in Tahiti now!!
I want a Jeff for my crew 😉
Ha ha. He is the best!!!
I’ve been awaiting this video as I adore pearls! TY
Oh fun!! You should love it here!! ❤️❤️❤️ They see everywhere.
As others have said - there should be an appropriate sized bung tied to each peacock as standard practice. Using the forward motion of the boat is how all anchor retrievals should be accomplished. The windlass is for pulling the ground tackle back on board - not breaking out the anchor.
Thanks for your feedback. Let me give you context. When we made this video we had only sailed for 7 months. We had never owned a boat and knew nothing about being on the water. We were eager to share with others anything we found to be slightly helpful! The fact that this is one of our most popular videos says that it has resonated with others in the sailing world. I am so thankful you are so much more experienced that you know all of the tips we talked about. We hope to learn from you as we continue to grow in our sailing journey!
Nothing new here.....
Well, thankfully it was for the 32k who have watched this before you! I hope you have a great day!
Oops, someone forgot to give when the Church offering came around. 😮
Hahahahahha!!! You are way too observant!! 😂😂😂
Hello, Just a question about mooring with boomies (or coral spuds). Don't you use buoys or inflatable shock absorbers to lift the anchor along the bommies (or coral potatoes) to prevent the chain from making kisses and problems with it? A "sieste" is a nap in english. VERY important ! 🙂 About price, it is around two time more than in France... except cheese. French cheese, specially Roquefort is expensive even in France, so in Polynesia it is luxuous to buy this category of food. How much does a "baguette" cost to compare with my baker? I could see your "baguette" at 08:57... These are “industrial” baguettes for me, they are not very high quality baguettes and they don't keep long because they don't have a thick crust. These are the baguettes you find in supermarkets in France for a quarter of a buck... OK, for you Americans, this is heaven, but a Frenchman used to good bread will grimace, sorry! As for the rest, given the price, they benefit “a little” from the scarcity and difficulty of producing vegetables. A smart guy who starts a garden will be rich in no time, but I admit it's hard to get good soil on coral sand and fresh water for watering in a few weeks, and I'm not sure they can have autorization to sell those vegeteables... So they import everything from Tahiti or from abroad or France, and the prices suffer, unfortunately, as does the quality. Best Regards from France Philippe
Thank you so much for your comments and questions, Philippe! Yes we always use chain floats so the chain sits above the bommies but the first 30-50’ have to be on the sand floor to keep the anchor from pulling out. That’s where you can have some problems or if a bommie sits too high or if your floats aren’t spaced properly. So many things can go wrong! Interesting about prices in France compared to here. I cannot believe how cheap it is here then given the remoteness! Yes the baguettes are the very cheap ones not artisan, but when you rarely see something, it is so special. Now after 7 months with baguettes we don’t buy them! Ha. They cost between 30-70 XPF per baguette. Super cheap. You are right that they don’t last long especially in the heat and humidity. There is an organic farm in Tikehau. They make great soil since 1993. All compost and have incredible fresh goods. They sell them for the same price as the market which is amazing to me I wish other atolls would follow their model. How great for a go buy lettuce from the ground!! Anyway, Tahiti somehow manages to move freshies around the islands without killing our pocket books. It’s a fascinating system. Have a great weekend.
@@SailingBlownAway Hello and thank you for your reply. I hadn't seen the anchor buoys, hence my rather silly question... Thanks for the price of these industrial baguettes, so 30-70XPF is equivalent to about €0.25-0.60, the euro being almost at par with the US$. Clearly not too expensive for low-quality bread. Why not try making it yourself? Yes, I know, gas oven, temperature not perfectly controlled, gas consumption and time wasted, not to mention the heat in the boat... I understand. 🙂😎 I didn't know there were small market gardeners on the atoll. The fact that they sell at a high price may be due to the lure of money or the high cost of living, which is caused by big cars and trucks, satellite subscriptions, telephone, whatever... Great weekend to you too, fair winds ! Philippe
@@Fildefer17 Of course!! No silly questions here! We actually try to eat brown breads. The baguettes were a splurge! We love them with whole grains and make that on the boat! Yes, the small market gardeners were on Tikehau. Their farm is called the Garden of Eden. It was spectacular. I hope someday you can visit it!! Surprisingly they could charge more. I would pay more for organic stuff straight from the ground!! ;)
Love ❤ that town!
Us too!
Bungs for skin fittings should be sized and be at the location attached to the pipe.
Ideally but at this point I am not going to pull seacocks out of the hull while we are in the water to figure out which bung works!
