Making a Bone Nut From a Blank | Fixing Open String Fret Buzz
This guitar had open string fret buzz as a result of the slots being too low. This had clearly been an issue previously based on the attempted shimming.
Nut slot depth is crucial for a guitar's playability, tone, and tuning stability.
The depth of the nut slots determines the string height (action) near the first fret. If the slots are too shallow, the strings will sit too high, making it harder to press them down, especially for chords or notes near the nut. Conversely, if the slots are too deep, the strings can buzz against the frets, causing unwanted noise.
Proper slot depth ensures accurate string contact at the nut, which is essential for precise intonation. If the slots are too deep or...

Getting My Guitar to Stay in Tune | Nut Adjustment
Просмотров 1,4 тыс.Месяц назад
I've been loving this guitar from @sturnerguitars, and it has been my main player since the day I got it! I was experiencing some minor tuning stability issues, so I brought it to my workshop for a quick fix. The nut can cause tuning stability issues if it doesn’t allow the strings to move smoothly. Problems like improperly sized slots, rough edges, or improper lubrication can cause strings to ...

Setting Intonation on a Tune-O-Matic (Tutorial)
No. It’s stupid. Cuz who’s going to see it ever?
You are an artist!
Wouldn't you love to convert EVERY measurement you do from now, to real units? Twenty one over thousand, times two dot 54?
Can you recommend a way to find a good Luthier? I have an RGA121 that's in need of some neck work.
I bet you've done this once before😂😂😂😂
I’m in southern Indiana and I have a American pro 2 Stratocaster I’d like to get set up. If anyone knows a good place to take my guitar I’d really appreciate it.😊
I have noticed this with certain American youtubers, the ends of their sentences end in B flat
So.... Do you need a husband?
Why do you talk like you’re being held hostage and forced to read this dialogue?
Great work! On the strat, I went ahead and put the adhesive tape over the pieces between the pickups (islands in your video). Since the pickguard has the foil backing, it was another way to make sure the pickguard was getting positive connection to the foil cage this builds. Have you tested a before and after? The Strat was noisy and now is dead silent on 60 cycle hum. It works!
Really appreciate your videos. I started working on my own guitars with encouragement from a luthiers group I’m in. I had a broken nut on a telecaster and they walked me through it. That was a year and a half ago and now my middle bedroom is my guitar repair/mod lab. It’s my favorite place to be. Thanks again for sharing. Your videos are very helpful!
So helpful, thank you!!
Was the guitar shot or smt 😭
I used aluminum tape for one of my guitars and it worked great. I didn't solder the additional ground wire but used the same aluminum tape itself to hold it in place. Silent. No hum or hiss at all.
Home guitar fixer guy here and I thought I had seen every way to shape a nut but you have a couple techniques that make sense but I haven't seen before. 1) Using caliper to scribe, 2) Using razor to scribe slots, 3) Radius gage for example. Great lesson and great work! Thanks for sharing. Subscribed.
can aluminum tape work ?
Bouta start my first one too and you show up right as i forget about it
Class is in session.
Shout out Warmoth!!!
I have a gold anodized guard on my Jazzmaster, seems to help with noise and it looks cool. IDK if you’re planning on doing it but you can layer the back of whatever pickguard you’re using. Keep up the good work!
You MUST do the back of the pick guard too. That metal is literally a cage, you can afford small holes, but don't ask me when you'd start impairing that Faraday cage. A fine mesh still works. The thing is, such a lot of metal around you, connected to an electrical "zero" or earth, it keeps even lightning out. Sitting inside an oldfashioned all metal car, keeping yourself clear from the metal, that is THE way to survive a lightning storm. Even a lightning strike in the car will get the car damaged, but the people inside can stay clear from that huge amount of energy going through the metal. It won't spark inside the car. You are safe. The guitar cavities should become such a box. Copper tape is beautiful for this. Copper is a metal that conducts electricity (and heat and sound) like crazy. It really is a very special metal. When you like tinkering, making a copper nut and bridge or saddles gets you a nice resonance. No kidding.
I cant wait to see this thing finished
In other words: anything you do on the internet, you are wrong :) But you don't need new ideas, just make videos of proving everybody that they are...
Sounds amazing. Then why do you strangle your own throat? So many women talk like they don't get any air! It sounds aweful! Why do you DO that? Ask you singing teacher. Your breathing is impaired!
Never owned a Heritage guitar but have admired some. I would've thought such a pricey guitar wouldn't have sharp fret ends!?! Good to know...
A LOT of people have A LOT of opinions
This is the best guitar workshop channel on RUclips. I’ve been playing for 15 years, but this channel has helped me understand guitar mechanics and electronics in way I certainly did not before.
why not use conductive paint? is it more expensive than the tape?
Why is it somebody else's responsibility to answer your question instead of looking it up on your own?
It can be expensive, but it's also messy. It can also take a lot of paint to get a thick enough.
youre a fuckin badass
Don't worry about the haters!... There just being A-holes cuz your a Girl! You know your craft!😉 And I love your work! ... How can I get a hold of you? I have some guitars 🎸I'd love for you to do for me!👍
JUST UPGRADE TO "STRATOCASTER ULTRA II" FOR THE NOISELESS PICK-UPS. 😊
Looks like you are doing a great job. I can't wait to hear that guitar.
Is this for electric and acoustic?
Each guitar string needs a solder joint to ground
Today I Learned Thx for the update - 😊
Has anyone tried playing the guitar near the speaker, does it have a difference with sheilded and unshielded cavity guitars ?
Is it better to have low resistance like lower than 1 ohm? Can do same test of course just in ohms mode. Nice work
Exactly! Good work showing them with testing continuity.
Nice clean job.
“I’m coppering my thingy to stop the buzz” “Ok cool, I can skip that, actually”
Huh? You are building an accoustic Tele?
Nothing you said in this video is correct.
Copper will 'not' stop electromagnetic anything!! No iron no magnetics !!
It is diamagnetic.
metallic spray paint exists xD
Nice work
you are a tape artist (>'.')^
I'm really lazy. I just punch holes through glow in the dark tape using a hole punchet and stick them over the existing frets
Amazing looking frets! How long do they stay like that tho? And I’m looking for the total opposite, I want a more matte finish on my frets. Any suggestions?
You should be crafting high end acoustic guitars.

So much effort to create this video but not much effort to speak vividly.
Doing this today on a tele, man they get sharp like razor blades. Got a $60 tele for black friday. Put it on the bench yesterday. Its not as bad as i thought but def needs fret work bad. 🤞
