hi! nice game :)) i'm really not a Catan expert (I absolutely love the game but i actually suck at it lol), but I was reflecting on ur play around 10:28, when u were thinking about how to build ur road and whether to reach the 6 of bricks. Idk why but i feel like with the cards you had there, i would have preferred to settle on the 6: I would have used the road builder to reach the 6 from the settlement in 10-9-2, and then trade 3 wheats not for an ore but for a sheep, to settle on the 6-9-3. That way, u could city the 6-9-3 next (which i think is slightly better in production) instead of the 10-9-2 as soon as u have the resources, and also it keeps open the possibility to extend ur road downwards towards the sheep harbour, and later maybe towards the 8 of wood. Idk if it would have been as good of a play. But it was a great game anyways, keep up with the good content!! <3

You didn't see the critical importance of the 4-9-11. At 3:32 you have a situation where you lose 90+% of the time. Insane luck to get such a clear win. But that's what 4 early VPs and some very timely rolls do.

I was wondering, and I think it's actually stupid, but what do you thin about the 6 3 as a second settlement? Like you could build on the 3 4 8 way faster and stop his whole game plan I think? But I don't think it's like a complete solution because he still has the 8 4 3 and good OWS. Also, I am wondering what was the wrong road placement?

Well played! My only complaint would be your first settle leaves 50/50 shot of the sheep steal which did happen. Possibly drop the road and hold to pad your hand a bit. Interesting placements by Hawk. I was thinking 8310 left with 693 left. This makes your second placement much more difficult and he has really nice expansions. Thanks for the game!

Also, not taking the 5/9/10 city after the ore mono looks wrong since either a 5 or 9 roll in the next cycle would have gotten you 2 devs next turn. 5 9 10 was a good pick, but i think u should 6 3 11 with it, you force them onto the 6 5 12, also you can expand to the 9 4 11 which makes it tougher on them to get sheep. The 4 and 10 aren't great in terms of road production and you start without ore, this setup is just too slow imo given he has strong ore and wheat. I think you go 6 3 11 build onto the 9 4 11 and then build onto 10 8 and you have a great shot at winning.

At 11:46 you could've YOP'd for 2 brick and settled wood port instead of the following turn porting 4 wood and 4 sheep just for the settle but those 10s went crazy!!

14:30 is a spot that comes up in games like these often for everyone and I think really benefits from going through all the possibilities. Where there could or could not be a VP left. We know there are 2 devs left since both road builders, YoPs, and monos have been played, leaving 5 unplayed knights and 5 VPs across 10 devs, but with 8 being held already. The possibilities of the remaining devs are basically either 1 VP + 1 knight or 2 knights (and very rarely 2 VPs but that’s super uncommon so not worth considering). If your opponent does not have the last VP and we pull it, it’s basically game. Pretty good outcome. If your opponent has the remaining VP, they’re at 12 and you’re at 11. If we don’t pull, you have road settle + city this turn to go to 13. You’ll need a road road settle and a city (or three roads for 2 settles if you come out the bottom of the 6/4/11) to win. Your opponent would need to settle + city + road road settle. Or to settle and take road. They don’t produce much road building and aren’t on a 3:1. We win the race against that quite often. Final possibility is if your opponent has the VP already and we pull twice. We road settle for 12, and now we need two cities most likely. (Or a city + 3 roads + two settles). Opponent close to settling the wheat port and taking the lead and us being far from the city makes it tough. I think overall it doesn’t benefit us to pop here. I also think we should never connect road because the brick is rare for us, and we’re in a race. It takes them forever to get 3 roads and if we track and know they’re close we can always extend then. Ending this turn on 11 points gives us near 0% chance to win the game imo. We may still lose either way but I think not popping gives us the best chance to win. And I think using our brick to not settle really hurts us more than them. Either way, gg and gl next. Sorry for the wall of text lmao.

Thanks for the game. Didn’t see the stats but 10 absolutely crushed. Hard to win against those dice. The mono and double brick steal was a huge momentum shift. Definitely be more mindful of clearing your hand of roads when facing pure OWS. GL next.

Great game! I see this a lot in pro play, and I dont quite understand: When folks talk about blocking with robber and say like "the 10 just rolled," isn't that statistically irrelevant to the odds of what rolls next/going forward?

16:20 you could have built the settle on the sheep port, and then traded in 2 sheep for the dev. could have maybe also got the city that way also

3rd settle should have been the 6 9 4 then to the sheep port, u had 2 extra roads. 6 sheeps feels much better than 11 wheat here.
