Nice Yakima Bluffs! Cool geology! Those darn trains- lol 😂😂
And we actually got the glimmer of sun we were hoping for. At least the light is on an upward trend now lol
@@DanFarrar Thank goodness! 😆
Hi Guys!! Cool new lens- you’re going to have lots of fun with this set up! I guess it’s obvious you can use it for video too, just hadn’t occurred to me, lol. So how are you liking the Lumix S9? Seems like it’s got lots of versatility!! 👌😎🎄🎄❤️💚
it’s a ton of fun that doesn’t weigh a ton at all. lol I appreciate the stabilization immensely and the colors are predictable and versatile. AF is very good too but I didn’t need it with this lens because it has no focus 😂. I like what it does though
@ 😂😂
Quite a year!! Lots going on in Richland … funny and serious, colorful and cool, classic, trendy and beautiful! 😎⭐⭐⭐
thanks Jennifer 😁.
@ 😁
See, when you put them all together, it makes for quite a collection...You should be proud Dan, a really excellent and solid body of work, great shots and well done!..💪😎👍...here's to more great photography in 2025, from you and me both!
@@innercityunit2112 A big amen to that! I’m thankful pretty much every time I take a camera out and definitely pleased when I gather them up and pick through them. They each have their own merit but 10-12 of them are just right IMO. Thank you so much 😊…now, let’s go get some photos! lol
Hi guys, looks cold and pretty darn foggy! Great pics- the blues on the construction equipment come through really nicely! Fun seeing Dragon and the Spudnut Donut Shop- yummy donuts and lunch! Love those foggy morning tree photos! 😎❤
I was really pleased the 18mm lens was wide wide and kept the perspectives mostly in control. I’ve tried multiple times to get a photo of the submarine I was happy with…got one! lol
❤❤❤❤
Ooooow he is so cute and funny😖💗
😚😚😚😚
Great camera , I’ve had mine since 2014 the only thing I don’t like is the movie function tends to drop focus but the rest truly excellent, and a merry Christmas to you sir. 👌😎☕️
Fun, creative channel you’ve got Fred! I’m sub’d! Yeah, the video doesn’t get the OIS from the lens like the photos do. The X20 does do ridiculous slow motion video though lol wow does it look bad 😝. Merry Christmas to you as well ❄️ 🧑🎄
Well exposed, nice shots Dan!..😎👍
three words: Dual Native ISO! All the light and none of the gain on digi-grain. lol. And, for the first time, I really really missed having an EVF 😒
Great light show and very fun editing with the 360!! Merry Christmas!! :)

@ Awesome- I’ll bring my 360! Maybe you can give me some tips on editing!! 😎😁
Nice recipe and perfect music! Which came first?😆😎
Song inspired lol. Oh, and overcast skies too

Hi Dan. I’m on a different continent but I found that interesting. Never seen a RUclips of that nature before. I quite like to take notice of the topography and geology of the landscape as I hike. I still get a buzz of I find a fossil or mineral specimen I can recognise. I never considered hazardous chemical residues apart from on post-industrial areas or lead mine spoil heaps. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Terry. I’m glad you found it interesting. Knowing some of the history and geographical features really helps the experience for me. I check the soils for my dogs who usually accompany me. We don’t get much rainfall here so residue will linger. Better to be safe as the dogs ride low to the ground lol. Thanks for the kind words 🙏
Excellent visual production and video editing. So beautiful, sweet and smooth. Much inspired and talented. A real peaceful and relaxing pleasure to watch. Full of poetry and spirit. Good for the mind and the eyes. Fabulous visit and discover. Exceptionnal filming. Big big big like for this fantastic perform and brighting sharing. Splendid and luminous.
Thank you 🙏. I really dig your channel and have subscribed. Very creative and well done! It’s a pleasure to meet you 😁
Cool lightleak!! It looks like the 70s! Great photos through the chain link fence! :) 😎

@@JenniferLupine not that cold but 35ish for sure. We have had a week of fog and overcast days. Bummer for photography but I might have an option or too up my sleeve lol.

Love videos like this, I’ve been searching for them. (Almost) every video on this camera is some annoying “influencer” reading spec sheets. Thanks for actually using the camera and sharing the footage!
I can’t make claims of not being annoying lol. Definitely not an influencer unless it’s fun lol. Thank you 🙏 your encouragement matters 🙏
@ maybe annoying is too harsh. Everyone’s in a different place. But I do appreciate seeing the cam in action! Thanks again!
nope, annoying is exactly right IMO. lol. I use my S9 almost daily and I enjoy showing it off. I am honored to have people watch my channel and I am especially glad when they get something worthwhile from it. Thank you 🙏
Very cool...got sort of a retro look to it with sort of a sepia tone to me. Always neat to see what you are up to.
Definitely a deep sepia but with color. I used a spot point to meter the light at that specific point only and let the rest of the frame fall over/under/or on with the single point. All that to say, it is a way to add sharpness when there really isn’t any. Low rez lenses are underrated IMO.
IEEEEE!!!
Not sure what it means but I love the enthusiasm lol.
Thanks for sharing Dan, New friend here stay connected God bless you
@@lightofgodindarkness Nice to meet you. 👋
Hi Dan - Nice look around! Great idea to check out all these online resources for your project!! I'm terrible at recognizing faults when we're on the ground hiking, but wow, with the view you get on google they start to make sense. Funny that it's Camp Columbia on the Yakima- lol!!
It’s all geeky stuff I do on the side that I seldom share but probably should. I do a lot of exploring before I go exploring lol. Like you said, when you get feet on the ground, it’s impossible to grasp the scale and catch large details even though you are standing right on it lol. 😝
@ 😆 Sure- it’s interesting to see what resources you find. Right, scale is difficult!
There is a horse camp there. Big open area with individual areas for horse, trailer, truck, and more. Anyway, each spot was way bigger than an average RV space. On google earth it looked big but…as I walked it and counted spaces it occurred to me how big it was. Must be 200 spots or more. Each with electric and water. That big horse section is now closed as of last year due to upkeep/missed payments and vandalism. I couldn’t find any information on it but my guess is that many horses were speeding up the erosion on the sandy north bank of the Horn.
Pretty! I like the soft tones, Yakima Bluffs is a great name!! - Jen
it works very nice on the brownie dirt colors lol. I was surprised to see how well it did with water 💦. Perfect for no fuss SOOC goodness.
Awesome weather and a fun walk today! Great song!! Jen :)
just getting some air lol
Fun day of exploring! I would think those roads that are still there could help you a bit with an overlay of what you have on your old photos. I love that the sage brush is coming back and the area is returning to what it should be. Maybe someday the wildflowers that grow under the brush will come back too. I really enjoy that whole habitat. Anyhoo, great exploring and finding traces of the 1940s camp!! - Jen
Things do sometimes line up like that with an overlay but typically the photos are from a different perspective and with a different focal length so they never quite match up the way you would like it to. The area was in perpetual transition from ‘44 to ‘48 as they tried to make it more accommodating for the guards and families who lived there. Fortunately they never built over the original area (that little triangle) so the original road was easy to verify. I know they canned a lot of fruit and that last place I visited looks like the place maybe where that did that. There are a heap of other photos somewhere….
@ You’ll find them! Great that they didn’t take out the roads! 👌😎
I just bought it, waiting for the lens, very curious as s5ii was also tempting.. Nice music by the way, who is this band?
S9 and S5Ii both function similarly and have + & -‘s to both. I really enjoy the S9 for what it is and does. If I did more telephoto photography I would choose the S5Ii. Either way you full frame with great IBIS and a wonderful pallet of colors to capture with. Thanks for watching!!! 👍🙏 John Fogerty of CCR fame “toot toot” was the song ✌
Nice.what software did you use for post? Thanks for any replies.
I didn’t edit the photos at all. This was SOOC with Nostalgic Negative Film Simulation ✌
@ thanks
Quite amazing! In some spots it sure does look like some of them shots are taken by a drone. Very cool!!
The dogs have seen drones before and they go bananas every time. I’m sure I could train them with repetition and familiarity with drones but my 360 pole is silent and easy and quiet too lol
Now that sure is a pretty little area. That "pier" looked mighty sketchy though...LOL Hope your week has been going well.
Hi Bruce 👋 all that geology makes for a pretty picture lol
👍
Yeah buddy! thanks 🙏
Some pretty incredible way to see the terrain. We have a fellow near that studies historic maps and how many historic areas have been built over or is now used to agriculture. Always great stuff out there to be discovered.
Funny how those layers of history work. Most times there are a few layers deeper down we don’t even know about. The mountainous folds we have actually have river rocks at the top from rivers that flowed when it wasn’t folded yet. 🤔
😂😂
❤❤😎
Hi guys!!
Wind and sunshine!! Interesting- seems like the weather interacting with the land would stay fairly consistent over time- have you found any record of the winds? Cute houses 👌😎
@@JenniferLupine Still learning about the Green Run. I know they did radio nucleotide (?) lol tests on the ground after the test and surveys found a big area got coated. It wasn’t JUST radiation that was airborne….they released a toxic mix with chemicals that give the cocktail a long half life. Cows eat the grass, cows give milk…you get the idea. The positive surveyed area was mostly South of the discharge whereas normally it would be found north due to the south wind. There was a huge cover up and it took people decades to settle. Downwinders…it’s a thing.
What do you make of that? Mmm
It could be the manifestation of fear due to secrecy and war that made people hyper observant enough so they all reacted to the same event and saw the same things. Stranger things have happened. I do think they think they saw something. it wasn’t in the papers or anything until much later so I know they weren’t looking for fame or notoriety in any way. Lying to the military is never a good idea either. There are more sightings in this area in the late 40s and the folks at Hanford have reported some crazy stuff over the years
@ Mmm🤔
Love the logo. It reminds me of the many years I worked on yearbooks when in high school and with my own students...for me its that retro vibe. Always enjoy looking through old map book. I do look online too, but something about flipping through pages. I kinda haven't done it for awhile now, but seeing your enthusiasm makes me want to start again. Keep it going good!
Thanks Bruce 🙏. I’m glad you are enjoying these vids. It’s certainly a joy to make them. I appreciate you! Hi Otis 👋
You've found some great resources online! Super cool that you found a recorded video interview- plus lots of written materials to go along with your photos and lidar. I don't know the area well, but am looking forward to seeing what you discover!! We hiked at the White Bluffs where you can look down on Hanford and the river, though it's not a river. I'm super sad and angry to think those kids were digging up and messing around in an old Native American burial ground. 😢😭
The bitter side of me thinks most of those kids are now deceased…would anyone be OK if I went digging around them? likely not. Not to blame the kids necessarily, my thinking is the adults are the problem here. The Horn (Wannawish) was a gathering place for many local tribes for thousands of years. I’m glad the area in question is no longer available to the public.
@@DanFarrar Me too!! What a messy history we have.
It is so disheartening to hear these stories. Hopefully some rules be enforced before more damage is done. It is good that you are exploring and rediscovering these historical sites. Have a good night, Dan!
@@PlacesWeGoExploring Relic hunting was an activity people did unfortunately. The area in question is now fenced off with signs and the road that once went past it is gone. No access. 👍 The field trip is Monday lol
I'm massively into local social history and love looking through old photos of Nottingham city and surrounding towns and villages, particularly from the 1950's, when my late mum and dad were a young couple and the 1960's, when I was born and the 1970s/80s, a golden era imo...To see all the wonderful shops, stores, department stores, small family businesses, cinemas, markets, cafes, etc, etc, the vast majority of which no longer exist. Thank goodness for the photographers, both pro and enthusiast, who went out and captured all those wonderful shots for posterity, we owe them all a salute. Really like the shots you got here!...Presuming the s9, and that B&W look you got there is fantastic! Did you use a LUT?, or is it a standard in-cam profile?, or in post?....Just curious because they look so great!...and I love that aspect ratio = cool cinematic vibes!.....nice work Dan..😎
Yes, the S9 with 20-60mm and a LUT I’ve been working on with an emphasis on the mid tones. Still in progress because the available light keeps changing (seasonal) and throwing me off. I liked this set up a lot though…good grayscale mids 👍 I live in an original atomic city, one of three or four in the USA. So pretty much everything man made is from the 1940s and beyond. Many buildings in the area were gov’t built then later turned to a more civilian friendly environment lol.
@@DanFarrar TBH, I would save a copy of that LUT as is, it's really good. Sometimes I can keep tweaking things, and some more, and loose that little sweet spot you instinctively knew was good/has hit the mark, and I'm not inferring that will happen with how you are developing and refining this LUT, but it instantly hit me how great this particular B&W look was..just sayin'......I liken it to a painter knowing when to stop adding paint to the canvas, knowing when the painting is finished....Whatever, it's a great looking black and white profile, regardless.
@@innercityunit2112 I get it completely lol. I’ve saved my current LUT as is and will build from new with old settings. I really like it too and knew it on the first click. The part that is making it inconsistent is the available light and how mixed it has been lately. The photo style is Monochrome (the plane one, first one shown B&W). I did a backward S curve, and something with color too - when I get in LUMIX Lab next I’ll dissect it and find out what I did right lol. I’m encouraged that you saw what I saw though…means I’m on a good track! lol the mid grayscales are the goal. BTW, the VND filter is involved too. The VND is amazing at fine tuning the exposure for photos even on an overcast day. I leave the ND at 3, find my exposure and tap the ND right or left and tune it in lol. That might be part of the mid tone wonderfulness…not sure.
@@DanFarrar Yes I think you are deffo on the right track, just don't forget to keep notes!, instead of how TF did I do that?!🤔😉😂 Seriously though, nice work mate!..💪👍
And then there was the UFO incident right here pretty much in my own backyard in Shag Harbour, Nova Scotia, a tiny fishing village, on October 4, 1967. Still brings people down to check it out even to this day.
indeed, WIKI page and everything and even with many witnesses from different locations. hmmm 🤔 cue the twilight zone theme song lol. I can’t help but wonder if an alien piloting a ship that gets seen by us….does it get a butt chewing for the error?
@@DanFarrar Every year since it sees major new coverage...Twilight Zone for sure...miss that show!
@ I just checked it out on Google Earth. Cool area. I’d probably take a look if I were an alien. 👽
@@DanFarrar LOL LOL!!!
oh no my comment disappeared Make it short It is indeed fascinating film believe or not? Thank you for sharing hidden past...well done
It’s a recorded part of our history (UFOs) and Hanford was an early player. I don’t doubt at all that they saw something as it’s now declassified and the event is listed. Is it a UFO? lol. I have no idea. But,….it did happen. lol
@@DanFarrar Thank you, Mr. Farrar. I really enjoy it.
welcome!
Was that the same theater as back in 1944? Good finding the bulletin - a Minstrel Show...? There's something super cool about Black and White- but it tends to make me think the past was less colorful... lol!! I really don't like when they colorize the old b/w movies. Just a random thought, lol. 😎 I hope those railings are in the old school photos!! J
@@JenniferLupine The shows were a regular thing and Richland was Lilly White. Churches, school auditoriums, you name it. A total celebration of superiority across the village. Government funded btw lol. As for the Dining Hall…more to come! Thanks Jennifer! -your India series is magical! Love it 😍

@@wendingourway a news bulletin for a brand new government built secret town with 25,000 residents from all over the USA. These were the lucky ones who didn’t live at Camp Hanford in a tent or trailer lol. Very socialist in approach lol
Can you record video in this wide aspect as well, or is it limited to photos only mate? Cheers in advance.
I’m not certain….there are a zillion video settings in this thing to choose. Anamorphic, 6K open gate, etc. However, when you set the photo to 65:24 it does NOT keep that setting when you switch to video (defaults to 16:9). The S9 added framing guidelines in a recent firmware. The guidelines give you a frame to work from but it doesn’t output cropped with the guidelines. I haven’t used the guidelines yet. hope that helps ✌️
@@DanFarrar It certainly does, thank you very much mate. :D
Hey Dan- I hope you keep pursuing and posting the story of Robley and his photography, and sharing it with us! Did you get some feedback or just discovery some new facts? It happens to all of us 😆 I really like the Black and white you’re using! Btw, did you see Nick’s recent video? They’ll be Harborview for 3 weeks. 🥲
I did see Nicks recent video…OMG 🥺 broke my heart. I haven’t received any new information yet but I am inquiring. Finding out all the black face stuff was in Richland really threw me a curveball. Camp Hanford was racist by today’s understanding but everything was racist back then to some degree. Finding the blatant celebration of racism in Richland is troubling and Robley photographed a lot of it. Disproportionately IMO. Celebrating or whistleblowing? Hard to tell at this point 🤯
@@DanFarrar O my, yes I see. Can you tell which years the photos were taken? Perhaps your story is going another direction. A few years ago I went to the new African American museum in DC. I felt Ike they dealt with racism straight on and gave the facts, a known today. I’d say just go ahead and report what you discover! 👌
I will definitely keep going. Too late to stop now lol.
@@DanFarrar lol!

Share what you feel appropriate in your discoveries and if not, let others make their own further investigations if they wish. You just keep on rolling along!
Thank you Bruce! After a day of self humbling…I’m ready for whatever the photos and history reveals. Fortunately, I’m working on my own photography at this juncture so I can focus on that for a bit and allow some time for regrouping. I wasn’t prepared to find so much racism in Richland. Government funded racism btw. I knew the racism existed but I wasn’t expecting this story to get plugged up with that. I have reached out to sources and will wait for some clarity before I return to that element. In the meantime…it’s time to use those skills I’ve been pursuing for the past year or so and start knocking out some old timey style photography with modern gear. THAT will keep me going! I appreciate you Bruce!
@@DanFarrar Yes, even in digging in my own family history and German ancestry, some pretty dark elements were found from those war years.
Nice studio and great investigation! Things have changed quite a bit since 1940s, but the land is still there!! That's a cool old car too!! 😎👌
the street George Washington Way got expanded from 2 lanes to 5 lanes at some point so things got encroached on his side of the street. The original sidewalks are one of many things the government either used, tore down, or built over lol
