Do we still need bookshops?
What's the future of bookshops? Do we still need them in 21st century? Is it time to close them down? I believe we need bookshops today more than we did before. Bookshops provide serendipity, and give us a chance to discover what we don't yet know.
All the books that I recommend in this video were discovered not online, but in a bookshop. I seriously doubt I would discover any of them online since algorithms often base their recommendations on the products which we previously experienced.
I hope at least one of the books that I recommend in this video will end up in your reading list as well:

How Reading Can Make You Famous

Reading can make you famous, if you don't just read many books, but also imitate and apply the wisdom they contain to your own life. My edition of Seneca's letters - amzn.to/4apTI4D (It's the full Chicago Press edition, which is slightly expensive, but it's worth it) There's another great edition that is equally good and cheaper, but it contains selected letters. This edition is beautiful thoug...

Don't pursue happiness, pursue this instead
Просмотров 9934 месяца назад
There's something much deeper and more powerful than just a mere pursuit of happiness. You can find more joy in life if you focus on finding meaning instead of happiness. As Nietzsche once remarked 'The man who has a WHY can survive any HOW'. In this video, we are going to explore this idea. 🚨 My Patreon - www.patreon.com/armenikus Subscribe to my newsletter 📚 - 👉 eepurl.com/he7YKD Instagram 📷 ...
Avoid being alone if your mind is ill
Просмотров 6715 месяцев назад
The Stoic philosopher Seneca writes that spending time alone or in solitude can be dangerous, if your mind is ill. People who suffer from anxiety or depression shouldn't be left alone with their own thoughts. In this video, we explore how we can know whether our mind is healthy enough and what Seneca suggests we should do if it's not. My edition of Seneca's letters - amzn.to/4apTI4D (It's the f...
Life-Changing Advice From My Favourite Stoic Philosopher

Stoic philosopher Seneca writes that each one of us has a divine power within. We need to nourish that source, water it like a flower, so it could grow and make our life beautiful. The beauty therefore lies within. If you look around yourself and see ugliness, it's likely you've trained your eye to do this. How to Focus in the Age of Distraction
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.6 месяцев назад
How to focus? We think that the lack of focus is a modern problem. We complain about the rise of social media and distraction it unfolded on us. But, is this true? When one reads John Cassian's Collationes (written 1600 years ago) one gets a different impression of this. We distracted ourselves with all sorts of things in the past as well, and great minds searched for tips on how to maintain an...

How to Answer Proust Questionnaire | (Personality Revealing Questions)
Great video, Vashik, thank you!
Thank you for sharing this! This was a beautiful explanation of a good teacher and helped me very much!
I've had to get comfortable with ereaders. I will buy physical books, but only if I know I will read them and i only keep the ones I love. I use my ereaders as a literary testing device and great for on the go as well.
@@ellelle that’s actually a good way to explore modern books. Sometimes I buy them and realise that it wasn’t worth the money
@@VashikArmenikus nor the space on your bookshelf which is far more valuable.
Where can I get it now
Love the quality and shots in the video, this brought me back to focus on my telos. Hope you're well.
One of the greatest pieces of literature
So nice
Personally I like to read books and not just stare at them in a library, but all power to you.
If you have lots of books and your small home is bursting with books, as mine is, you are lucky if you can find room to accommodate them on shelves. How many people have enough room to present an exhibition of their books? It often occurs to me that my living room is closer to a museum than a home, though many interesting objects that I own are out of sight. If I want to show them to a visitor I have to extract them carefully and put them away carefully before something gets damaged. The V and A has acres of space in which to show things - lucky them! And why exhibit your books anyway? Surely books are mainly for reading, are they not? What would be the point of an exhibition in a private home? The books would just be gathering dust while a tiny handful of visitors looked at them. I agree that how huge museums and libraries manage their collections is very interesting, but it's hardly relevant to the average amateur collector or reader.
This was so interesting - thank you!
Absolutely beautiful poem, thank you so much for sharing it!!
Servants.

Please keep this channel going. I love that your suggestions are much more helpful than a lot of other primary texts which might not give the complete context hat could hinder understanding and appreciation of the text. Thank you and what youre doing is wonderful. I rarely comment but i just have to!
does this include all 3 parts?
In modern life this is what shrinks do. But not all of us can afford one and not all of us have those close ones, who really cares
Are these rules can be applied both to non-fiction and fiction books, correct? Or mostly for non-fiction?
Interesting. Thank you for the video.
Where can I buy?
Bro, you read 70 books about Napoleon? It's true love!
It is nice to understand how Oscar worked in his journals, however I don't believe we should add rules to our own journals/commonplace book. Some of these sound like tasks they make you do at school that feel laborious and so we lose the joy of writing for ourselves.
Carlo Rovelli in the front, William Blake in the back, how can this can be better ? Thanks for your share.
A house without books is like a room without a window.
So very true. I hate to equate a "library" to the internet...but having a mass of information at your fingertips is so vital to a mind. I personally don't like the internet. You're grasping at other peoples concepts of what is important. A book is more likely to be a primary source than an entry on a "web." And I truly feel that you engage a different part of your brain when you read a book than you do when you scan a computer entry. I have unread books...but I know I have them. And when I open them it's like entering a new room in a solid house. A book on my shelves can't be edited by an outside source. It can't be deleted or erased by someone far away. Of course you have to protect your volumes. Thank Heaven thousand upon thousands of our ancestors felt the same and left the distilled knowledge for us to access, digest and discuss. And books don't need batteries.
Woahh thats really pretty !!
i fucking love gustave dore dud wheerrrreeee can i find this pls
She didn’t have social mediaB😅
One of my favorite books in my library. The one I have read the most times.
I want to read multiple religious books at once, like the Quran and the Bible. Or multiple Bibles at the same time. I may take the step to read more than 1 at a time
Are there any books you recommend to learn more about the history of productivity ?
Isn't this just a journal with some quotes and things from other people? As soon as you start writing any comments in perhaps to discuss what the quote meant to you, for example, you're journaling.
Really enjoying your videos! I wish I could read as many books a year as you do. I read multiple books at once and read everyday but am lucky to finish 20 books a year
A incredibly informative video. Great work friend ! :)
Your video is such a breath of fresh air! I always kept personal journals and notebooks for specific interests but now I am going to attempt to keep a Commonplace Notebook - being a writer and avid reader myself. I also love Oscar Wilde so this video grabbed my attention from start to finish - thank you for your research and sharing this!
Brilliant advice, tips and techniques. Thank you so much for Sharing.
I had to down size my collection of mostly unread books from 60+ boxes to 10. Was not fun.
Use of JP is a big 🚩, as is wanting to think like a Roman emperor 🫣. But the rest of this is very relevant for my over thinking brain 🧠🤯😅
How wonderful to have found your channel..your love of books reflects my own journey. So inspiring, thank you.
I only read history D; I need to work harder on the summaries
Looks very cool.

Thanks for the video, wanna give it a try and see hw it goes using the ReadEra App.
Is there a link to where you can buy this pls 🙏
The spot is beautiful! 😁☘️🍃🌳🌞
I totally agree with you on contemporary, modern art, I feel the same. And I love what you said: "self-expression is not necessarily art"! This sentence struck me, it hits the nail on the head! I personally think and feel that for something to be truly beautiful, it has to remind us of the good. If it brings us down, it's not beauty
thanks for mentioning that moleskin downgraded their paper, I loooved their pocket notebooks, every year for the past 5 years I got 2, and the last time I was so disappointed and sad, cause theire quite expensive and the only reason i got them was because of the paper. I can no longer use fountain pens cause it hurts my soul the amount of bleeding that occurs.
J'avais besoin de ces mots aujourd'hui, merci .
Terrible movie. Laughs through most of it.
