Can art be functional? Parametric Art - Inertia
Earlier this year I finished my largest sculpture yet. People have mentioned in the past that they thought it would work as a sound diffuser, so I installed it in my new media room. Does it actually make a difference in the sound? Who knows. It still looks cool though

A New Bandsaw Reindeer - Free Template
Просмотров 13 тыс.Год назад
Last year I came up with my own design for a bandsaw reindeer. However, the antlers were really fragile and some of the corners were a pain to cut. I updated the design to fix the issues I was having. Get a free copy of the template at: tinyurl.com/Reindeer-Template Socials: sandylake.woodworks
Parametric Art without a CNC!
Просмотров 11 тыс.Год назад
Last year I stumbled across some videos showing the installation of a parametric wall. Every video I could find used a CNC to cut out the pieces from a sheet of plywood. I don’t own a CNC, so I came up with a way that I could create my own twist on the design with the tools I had! Over the course of a couple months I wrote my own software and made my first sculpture. This piece is the first tim...
My Bandsaw Reindeer

The template has been updated. Find the new template in this video: ruclips.net/video/q7v-FFyEtP4/видео.html For years I’ve watched other woodworkers make bandsaw reindeer and I’ve always wanted to try it but I was never thrilled with the designs I found. This week I came up with my own design and I’ve been testing it out with some scrap 2x4’s. Template file: tinyurl.com/reindeertemplate Instag...
Thanks for your enhancement and for sharing. Happy holidays.
What kind of finish is that?
This is just mineral oil.
Nice work! What woods do you use and where do you get them from?
This set of ornaments used maple, padauk, and purple heart. I usually get my wood from a local hardwood dealer, but this particular set I bought from Rockler.
Thanks for sharing, nice template
Quality template! A neat touch with the drillings and especially the option of the angled one.
Good morning 🌅, very interesting, A lot of work, but well worth the time and effort, from France.
Thank you! It really was worth all the work!
Awesome!
Thanks!
That Looks so good!
I’m currently working on a new one that is even more impressive!
Awesome.
Glad you liked it!
This must have been so hard with out the cnc machine - it is such a beautiful neat and smooth job!
It's very time consuming, but I've got a pretty good system now that makes it pretty easy. I also have a little bit of pride being able to tell people that I didn't use a machine to cut anything out! Thanks!
Is the ripple software self made? Project turned out great! Hopefully you’ll have a cnc next time ;)
Yes! This is version 3 of my software. I’ve been working on it for a couple years now. I made this version with the intention of being able to share it, but it still has some bugs that I need to work out and I’ve been lazy. 😂 A CNC is in the plan eventually, I just need one that can handle 4+ ft of travel for my plans, and those don’t come cheap!
@ lol I wouldn’t call building custom software lazy, looks great! I understand wanting a big one with large travel. I had a shapeoko 3 xxl in an apartment for awhile. I’m working on some ambient wall lights that I’m going to cut from countertop slabs. I might have some application for your software with that, if you ever get it to the point you want to share it, I’d happily send you some money. Thanks!
i like it a lot and love the dedication
Thanks! I’m really happy with how it turned out too!
How can I have the template?
How can I have the plans please?
The link to the plans is in the video description.
Very cool!
Greta job! Thanks for the template 👌🏻
Great video. Have you stopped making them?
Making videos just isn't a priority for me. I've got a bunch of footage I need to edit into a new video, I just haven't gotten the motivation yet. haha
Great video, again.
Glad you enjoyed it
Are these allowed to be reproduced for resale in the UK? Many thanks
The free template is for personal use
This is your Mk1 (fragile) I’m presuming.
That's correct
This truly brilliant, absolutely love your design. 👏
Thank you so much 😀
What Software are you using to create the design?
I wrote my own software to create the design.
Thx for shearing

Great design; much more realistic antlers than most people are showing, which look more like whitetail.
Thanks! That was what I was going for when I came up with the design.
This is awesome! I really like these. I really like the idea of predrilling those holes. Thanks very much for sharing your template!
It is especially helpful when you’re batching out a bunch of them.
Great job, thanks for sharing the template.
Glad you like it!
Sorry, but what is this he’s made?
After the glue dries, I cut slices off these logs. All the slices will be identical wooden ornaments.
That's so cool I might just try it! Glueing a few smaller pieces together to get the required dimensions shouldn't be an issue right?
Should work out just fine!
@@sandylakewoodworks It seems to be working just fine. I glued 4 1 1/8 inch pieces of pine together and I just started cutting the long side... Then I realized I should drill some holes first . Gonna make myself that 7 degree jig too. Such a fun little project. For a beginner like me this is perfect! Thank you for providing the template!
Thank you for sharing the template!
Can you please share what band saw you have in this video. Looking to buy one and yours looked like it had a wide throat
I have a Rikon 10-326
عالی شد👌
Awesome work, the software you mention, Is an open source one? Thanks, great work.
The software I'm using is one I wrote myself in Python. I'm currently not sharing my code though. I've seen other examples of people using a software called grasshopper though.
What is the yellow sanding disc you are using?
I picked them up on Amazon a while back. They have a hook and loop pad so it accepts a standard 5” sanding disk. a.co/d/0q1827M
No etsy shop found
That's almost sexual
😂 I’m not sure I would go that far.
Please do the adult swim logo👍 [as]
That would be pretty fun... unfortunately the way I come up with these patterns is all math based, so I can't just create a specific design like that. At least not yet!
Neat
Thanks!
I like this template the best.
Thanks! I was really happy with how it turned out.
нихуя себе, это невозможно!
Hi! I really like your work. I remembered the real deer I had seen in the north. Can I try to make your deer? May I ask this pattern? Any way, thanks for the creativity!
Thanks! I’ve added a link to the template file into the video description.
@@sandylakewoodworks O! I got it! Thank you so much!
I just got a band saw. How much can the blade be bent before snapping? Also, are you planning on posting any more videos (I see this is the only one)?
You don’t really want to bend the blade at all. 1/4” blades snap a lot easier (I’ve broken several). There are plenty of charts out there that show you the minimum radius cut you can make for each blade width. With a 1/4” blade you can make a 5/8” radius cut. For tighter turns you need to make relief cuts and attack it from multiple directions. I may post more videos in the future, but not regularly. Instagram is where I share all of my work.
now I need to make one without a bandsaw.... 🤔
You technically probably could make something like this with a coping saw… that would be a ridiculous amount of work and I wouldn’t want to do it! 😬
Super fun design! Definitely going to try some this winter!
Thanks! I want to make a small tweak to the template file, then I need to figure out a way of sending it out to people. Just let me know if you'd be interested.
@@sandylakewoodworks I'd definitely be interested! Just drop it in the description for the download I think that'd work well.
@Mainely Maine Outdoors I’m using a 1/4” 6 TPI blade.
I like the look of these. I would like to have the template file so I could make some
I would also love it. 😊
