I’ve been obsessed with this show since the soundtrack dropped. I finally saw the LA recording 2 years ago and was shattered. Lots of fanfic resulted. 😅 Super gay Catholic here who wears her Pride clothes to church to try and bolster support for others so shit like this doesn’t happen. I think most of the parish wonders where my parents went wrong and my former youth group leader won’t speak to me but whatever. What is going on with the film??? I need it!! 😭

this is such a comfort musical for me. the plot is so heart wrenching in the best way possible and songs like bare and best kept secret are so beautiful

Sorry I'm just now coming around to seeing this video, but I have to drop in here that my favorite version is the BareInIndy channel. The production is outstanding, and the actors who play Nadia and Peter are amazing (and this is a community theater production, so they're amateurs). Unfortunately, the actor who plays Peter died soon after the production.

I think Bare would make a great movie.

i think you were too kind with bare the musical. they straight up slaughtered all of the characters' symbolism and depth, made jason homophobic and made matt a Nice Guy™. i seriously couldn't even get through the first act without going back to the original pop opera

this was literally posted two years ago but, this musical hurts so bad.

Bare is one of my favorite shows toooo <3 It's a rare case where, musically, it's a little bit more hit and miss for me in terms of songs I love (there are some awesome ones, and others that just feel a little cheesy for me), but man, Peter and Jason's story gets me HARD every single time! (Same about it hurting on a physical level </3 Basically everything from Promise through the end is a big old "nope nope nope this hurts way too much, someone stop it now please" moment.) I know a fair amount of people have talked about how it's a little outdated at this point, and I'm like... true we've come a long way when it comes to gay acceptance since the early 2000s, but I absolutely think there are still some kids in Jason's position even today, and as long as that's the case, I think it's a very worthwhile story. And even if it was more of a capsule of where we were at a couple decades ago, that doesn't mean it doesn't resonate- I mean, RENT is still the show that will always mean the most to me, and it's definitely a product of its time too! ALSO, can I just say I will never not be bitter that we never got a proper Bare production with Matt Doyle as Peter? No disrespect to Michael Arden at all - he's amazing (and he may well be my very favorite *director* working today! As a performer he's awesome but as director he's an absolute genius), but I just really really love Matt's performance on the cast recording, his voice is impeccable, and I want to have seen him properly act it, darn it!

I did lighting for Bare in my university last November, and I fell in love so fast. It's such a powerful and amazing musical. It's been 4 and a half months I still almost exclusively only listen to the Bare soundtrack. Also, I was already in the middle of a sexuality questioning time when my tech week for Bare happened, and it made me so goddamn gay.

you forgot to mention that Gerard Canonico was Matt in the musical. you may now him from be more chill as rich. I just wanted to say that that was not mentioned . Also, I love bare: a pop opera so much thank you for this video.

I am so angry with the sped up tempo of the musical examples at the end. You tell people to just go and listen to how touching and heartfelt the music is and then you play the sped up examples that totally destroy the heart of the music and make it seem trivial and farcical. I suspect that you sped up the tempo in order to avoid copyright infringement problems however you don't even mention that the tempo has been altered so people who have never heard this music will get a totally wrong impression. To be fair, I really enjoyed your spoken comments about this great musical/opera and therefore I'm even more disappointed that you did not clue people to the fact that the music portrayed at the end is not representative.

I really enjoyed your assessment. “Bare” is currently playing in Baltimore at the Iron Crow Theatre and so far I’ve seen it three times. Not since “A New Brain” have I loved musical so much.
