Crying For Help IV - with Arena's Clive Nolan and Kylan Amos
Просмотров 963 года назад
In June of 2019, I had the great honor of singing a tune with Clive and Kylan from Arena at a private event in Chicago. I had never heard the song previously to learning it for this event. We ran it twice the night before, and that was it. Went off pretty well! Also, Kylan is playing one of my basses here.
Into the Storm - Tom Heslin

Upon hearing about the death of a friend and co-worker in July 2020, I picked up my acoustic guitar and started writing this song. It's about loss and the mysteries of crossing over. It is truly from the heart. And while it was inspired by my friend Stormy, I hope for it to have a universal appeal. "Into the Storm" Every day someone’s light fades Turned to memories, but none beyond today It isn...

So my friend (and drummer in Nomadic Horizon) Greg Rapp did a demo video of one of his new snare drums the other day. I decided to throw some bass on top. Hope you don't mind Greg! 😀

FM live 1985 Until the Night is Over/The Only Way to Win
This IS live music.
Amazing that their live performances are done so well. Many bands cannot perform their songs live as good as the studio version.
oh my God, HOLY f8ck what's going on here? Pure niceness, proud that they're Canadian!
All three members of this band are and in the case of Nash were such fantastic talented musicians. Martin Deller is one of the best drummers in rock pr pop music there was a good reason Neil Pert of Rush would often mention Martin Deller as one of his top picks for best drummers.
Phasors on Stun cranked up to 11 on a really large stereo is pure heaven. One of my favorite songs.
Very good! Love the 8-string Ricky sound. A++
Hi Tom, saw your link on the club site. - Mike in Petaluma, near the Mothership.
In 1980 I ran out and bought my first mandolin and a pickup, and played my fm records and learned to play along. Great times! Great band!
Great!
Cool Cool
So so so good
Awesome!
The Hes is no disgrace!
Thanks Glass. Don't mess!
wow, looks like lots of rehearsals 😅 - well done 👍
sounds crazy!
Great memories of Toronto in the late 80s - early 90s. Thanks to whomever dug out this gem and posted.
perfect as the opposite Rick octave pairs is just like what Chris played. sooooo soooo good
Bro, where did you find that bass? I own 3 Rics, but it's my grail bass.
It's a '93 that I bought off eBay in 2008. Amazing instrument!
@@viewer427 Nice. Did Ric make many of them?
@@Voltanaut Considering how long they made an 8 string, there don't seem to be a lot out there. From what I've read, the 4008 ran from 1975-1983. Then the 4003S/8 from 1987-2001.
@@viewer427 Yeah, they are wicked rare. They're one of my grail basses.
Great play-through right to the solo fills he does at the end.
did Chris LOVE to to do that marching grinding stomp on G much? ha ha ha
WOW again
Ahhh you did the hammer on in the bass break. aahhh (so few do) Flawlessly Ox like attack...... you only move about 90% more than needed. Ha ha ha ha ha
Headroom forever.
Beautiful sound !
Thanks for this upload. FM helped us get get into space in the days of exploration!!!
Love that hi-hat work by Martin Deller
great players, insanely talented
This is the first time I’ve heard FM. It’s not bad. Been listening to Nash the Slash since the 1980s.
FM were such an underrated band. "Black Noise" is one of my favourite albums of all time.
I agree, I have both the record and CD. It's always good to play that at home or in my car.👍
Black Noise freakin RULES!
it really is one of the best prog records of all time
Nash is full beast mode this night
Hello Tom, it has pairs of strings being the thiner one octave up? My english sucks, sorry, hope you understand me.
That is correct. Tuned eE aA dD gG, octave/BASS.
Is the neck width greater than a regular 4001 bass?
At the nut, it is less than 1/16" wider. At the 20th fret, it is about 3/32" wider. This is compared to my '89 4003S.
Great tone!
still watching it lol
Great band, great music! Too bad, we do not see band like that anywhere no more! Today’s garbage music, no musicianship. HipHop stuff is a total disgrace.
Martin Deller is absolutely ridiculous. He is a hybrid of Stewart Copeland and Neil Peart.
no
Tonight est mon album préféré de FM. Superbe rock mélodique avec 2 chanteurs excellents , les harmonies vocales et les solos de guitare 🎸 au top. L'un des tous meilleurs groupe Canadien
Ricky basses have their own unique tone since they first came out. I could always tell when someone was playing one. The Bee Gees and several other Brit groups use them all through the 60s and 70s. Awesome basses. I have one of the newer Ricky 5-strings, and it has that exact same awesome tone even with the 5th string. Wouldn't trade it.
Nice to see some FM love! My band used to play "Random Harvest" from FM's "Surveillance" - I think it was in F# or B. Great band, it's a shame they aren't more popular.
Nailed the tone! It's a great line too. Well done
Much appreciated, thank you!
Genius. Pue.

?
Sorry, but Cameron ruins this song.
Bad record company, bad!!!
Tasty playing as always Tom.
Thank you!
this nigga reading the lyrics on his smartphone bruh
It was a jam night. He'd never sang the whole (10 minute) song before. 😁
Geniales
I remember as a 17-year-old music lover soon-to-become -a-bass-player young dude thinking that this type of music was what the future was being represented by not realizing just how uniquely talented these guys were and that music would not be going in that direction by any means. A decade later after the 80s keyboard revolution had been out, it dawned on me it wasn't gonna happen. The pop music musicianship was simply not advanced enough musically as far as the average talent level plus, as far as composers go, it was impossible. These guys made me into a dreamer in some ways.
A gem, classic from another time.
I’ve got to say that this is a very good cover - you’ve really got the feeling of this song right!!!
