Amteck Internship Spotlight - Sierra Johnson (Virtual Design & Construction)
Meet Sierra. This summer she's interning with our Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team in our Lexington headquarters. Every day, she is learning new skills and applying them to designs for ongoing projects. This hands on experience with real-time feedback is preparing her for a successful career using building information modeling (BIM).
Our VDC group plays an exceptional role in our design/build projects, creating realistic and accurate 3-Dimensional simulations of our installs. This year, we're incredibly excited to offer internship opportunities local high schoolers who have learned BIM software skills from their technical schools.

    The deduction for 3/4 pipe is 6". Why is he using the 8" deduction?

      I believe all the deductions for rigid 3/4 are the same as EMT 1 in. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I'm still learning.

      Your deduction is based on the bender you’re using, it’s a 1” bender so you use your deduct in accordance to that, 8”.

    • @electricaltimelapsetest5713
      @electricaltimelapsetest5713 Месяц назад

      It's the best method, push thru, just remember S N A. star, notch, arrow. Get your measurements ( I use a pipe bending app cause it's easy) the make your first bend on the star, push thru to the next bend and spin 180, then bend at notch, then same thing at arrow. All bends are 22.5, 45, 22.5

    You don't have to deduct for the 90 if you use the star and pull toward the measurement

    Just stub 90 everything and then cut and measure. More accurate and easier to spin on. Also, pipe threading can easily be done with one guy and having an actual reamer is better than a file or piece of all thread. Good video

    Put your level on the bender handle, for 30 degrees the bender handle will be at a 90 with the ground also when doing the second bend keep your left hand closer to the bender using pressure, you bow the conduit when you try to bend farther back

  • @michaelmarchese7340

    If you are doing rigid conduit it’s a good practice to spin your boxes, Meier hubs, unilets on first to see how they fit. You may need to change the depth on the threads or clean them up first to thread them on tightly. This is reaaaal important. I don’t recommend using minnies because they are easily crushed or bent compared to malleable 1 holes with back straps. They make 3 1/4” deep strut and it’s a better install vs using back to back 1 5/8” strut. Always spray the cold galv on after you threaded your pipe which contains the mess. Threading rigid conduit is not a 2 person project…you can fasten the tripod legs down or use a sturdy rope to make a 3’ loop that is tied to the foot, using a piece of wood can’t stop it from flipping on larger pipes or if the tripod is an old p.o.s Finally when bending your first piece you should have calculated the gain which on newer 1” foot benders is somewhere around 4 1/2”…it’s verrrrry good to know because you cut and thread first then bend if need be. When using a foot bender I highly suggest you take the opposite end of the conduit and stick it on a wall or curb or something sturdy so it cannot slide around on you. You can really hurt yourself if it slips.

    Great video! But your toolie 54 seconds in , is oiling for you in the wrong spot Too many times I've seen that power pony catch and come over top. Have your partner stand to the side so he doesn't get whacked by power pony with dull dies . 3/4" heavy used dies don't always get new teeth right away Good habit to have when you go to bigger conduit. That is why you see the chain or rope on TriPod leg to help. That is reality even with Hogs Head

    In Watching this it's a great beginners video. For those who are watching you still need to adjust that bend for how you are supporting it, whether it's back strap or mini etc. Also if you just use a one hole strap you will prob need a box offset in the beginning of that run. Otherwise , great video.

    In my NCCER textbook on conduit bending it states to "multiply the shrinkage by 2" meaning in order to compensate for both sides of the bend. Can you please comment on this?

    • @rickjljr11
      @rickjljr11 6 месяцев назад

      not an electrician but I took geometry. If you look at the first 2 bends (from the start of the 1st bend to the top of obstruction) the center line distance of the tube is 12.14 inches. The projection of this section onto the floor is 11.389 inches long or 0.751 inches less. If you ant 40 inches from the start to the top of the obstruction, you add this to the measurement. So, if from say box to box you wanted distance x you would have to add 2 * "shrink" to the total length x. But now also.... the center line distance of the tube for one 22.5 deg bend plus the straight section is 10.4 inches, not 10 which appears to be the amount the center is off in the demo. Don't know how you would do that without a scientific calculator though.

    Gotta do them all to centers. So you can start at the end or after a 90 and bend them all in the same direction. 🤔 You can notch the bender with a bandsaw to indicate the center of _ degree bends. Quick bend app has some useful features. It has alot of info mapped out.
