    I'll take Maria Callas any day. She has a better voice and beautiful looking as well. She certainly knew what she was singing about. I don't understand why Renata Tebaldi is admired by so many people and I don't think someday I will change my mind on Tebaldi. But Tebaldi-worshippers can't even construct a legitimate and objective argument about why she is better than Callas.

    Thank you. Diaghilev was such a powerful force. Would we remember a remote Russian composer named Stravinsky if it had not been for Diaghilev? A rhetorical question. Who could ever know? Thank you.

    Tebaldi looked so boring. Callas was a beautiful, sensual Greek goddess that could seduce people by just looking at them. She had a magnetism that hypnotized her audience and made them listen. Her voice was so much better than Tebaldi’s, Tebaldi had a nice voice, but that was it. Callas had a voice that was DIVINE. There’s no way to categorize Callas’ voice. She could sound so girly and elegant in Bellini, then a force of nature in Medea. She could be seductive and sensual in Carmen, then make people cry there eyes out in Tosca. She was it.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

    This is dumb. Callas's tone was just conventionally uglier than Tebaldi's glorious voice. That's all. For the rest of the voice, Callas was far superior to Tebaldi. She had stronger chest voice that could rival mezzo sopranos with a deep and dark tone, she also had better high notes (Tebaldi relied too much on squillo that starting from high B, she lost full support for lack of head voice development). Don't even get me started on coloratura. Tebaldi's coloratura in Sempre Libera was just laughable. Callas voice is larger in size than Tebaldi's too, can sing lower and higher, and is a lot more agile. Not to mention, Callas was a much better stage actress than Tebaldi. Callas gave it her all when performing in operas. Renata only cared for the singing.

      "Callas's tone was just conventionally uglier"? What are you talking about? Thinking that Callas had an ugly timbre has already become "political correctness" among the critics.

    • @Tennisisreallyfun
      @Tennisisreallyfun 10 месяцев назад

      So, in other words, you are saying that you…prefer Callas? I don’t understand your statements here. In every part of singing and acting you are praising Callas, and yet you are saying that her tone is “conventionally ugly”. How can she be praised if she sounds ugly? And anyways, ignoring that incredible bit of contradiction, I’d just like to point out that I completely disagree with you. I think that Callas has a beautiful tone. It’s more subtle than most sopranos. I’m no expert or analyst, so I may find it hard to describe, but sometimes her voice sounds more like she’s humming than singing. Except that it’s also extremely powerful and projects greatly. I don’t know, but regardless, I think that in many human endeavors, it’s easy to find more than a few people at the top. In tennis, there’s The Big 3. Violinists, we have Heifetz, Stern, Perlman, etc… But not in opera. In opera, for me, there is only one singer for the men and one for the women who is clearly head and shoulders above the rest. For the men, it’s Pavarotti. For the women, it’s Maria Callas. Always was, is now, and always will be.

    the entire premise is so lame. fred plotkin, the gentleman who said callas had to reply on 'other things' - do we assume he only knew of her work after the weight loss? who ever put this clip together did neither lady any favors in his/her choice of recording used. lol there are those who have their reasons for loving one over the other and, sadly, feel they also need to disparage the one they do not favor. and there are others who see the greatness of both these legends. put me in that second camp.

    What beautiful tone? Tebaldi’s sound here is hard and lacking vulnerability. Singers in all genres are not just spinners of sound but ‘story tellers’ and they can’t be considered great unless we believe their words. Callas was not only believable in her roles but was a superior musician as well.

    Callas had to rely on "other things?" No one denies that Callas was a great actress, but to say that she had to rely on "other things" to make up for vocal deficiencies is an untruth so big that it should not be necessary to refute it. Callas was first and foremost a great vocalist, so for those "experts" who dwell on her vocal problems, well, there's nothing one can say. Just listen to the recordings, particularly the live ones. There are countless singers who would love to have such deficiencies!
