    something like this happened to me last week, the go-around windshear ahead alert sounded, and the captain decided to apply the windshear TOGA, although the FCTM specifies that you can retract the flaps, you can do either go around flaps or wind shear toga

      Go around - flaps is correct and best option in case you enter a windshear shortly thereafter. I did realize a few seconds later and switched to a soft go around for clean up. Thanks for sharing your experience!

      There was only a predictive windshear warning at 02:38 and no reactive windshear warning.

    Why is the final one so much more steep, is that for visibility minimums, heavy load, faster sequencing speed?

      It is a quite short final with much higher terrain at the point where the base turn starts than the runway elevation. You can not extend the downwind leg due to the mountain in front for a normal rate of descent. So you have less track miles to touchdown and at the same time you still have to stay at 1700ft and later 1500ft to maintain sufficient terrain clearance. That said, for the distance remaining to the runway you are quite high and and therefore you just need a higher ROD.

    Circle to 360 at Calvi is one of my Top 10 favorite approaches to fly. I didn’t know about the mandatory landing aspect for straight in. Good stuff.

    Can I ask you a question that I can't find answer because of conflicting sources.. During FLARE MODE is there direct proportionality between side stick deflection and control surface deflection?? Or is always a roll rate and g factor demand but with less limitation? Thanks in advance..

      In flare mode it is almost a direct proportionality. However there is a slight nose down command.

    nice video - sadly in 1971 Aviogenex had a bad crash when landing there with a brand new TU-134A-3 YU-AHZ flying from LGW as charter flight JJ130 for Yugotours Holidays - The aircraft had departed Gatwick Airport to Rijeka, Krk, Croatia, carrying 76 British tourists and a crew of seven. While approaching runway 14 at Rijeka Airport, the crew encountered very bad weather conditions with cumulonimbus, heavy rain falls and turbulences/windshear. As the aircraft passed through the area, it was carried upwards and rolled to the right. The aircraft was now above the ILS glide slope. Some 800 meters short of the runway, at a height of 60 meters, the crew decided to continue the approach. Power was reduced and the angle of descent increased to 10°. The aircraft struck the runway surface very hard with its right main gear at a speed of 260 km/h with 4 g deceleration force. On impact, the right wing was torn off, the airplane slid for about 760 meters and came to rest upside down, in flames. Three crew members and 75 passengers were killed.     Noob question : why pilots has to make a 180° turn to land on this specific runway, why can't they just land in the other direction, thus going straight forward ?

      Landing direction depends on wind direction. A straight in to runway 18 is only possible if tailwind is 10 knots or less.

    I have a question (I don’t work in the industry, but enjoy/appreciate aviation). At the 2:50ish mark there is a dictated callout of “Go around windshear”. Is that the pilot, ATC, or an automated control from the computer because of conditions ahead?
