    Do you happen to know if there is a freewheel hub that would work with a Nimbus Hatchet 26 inch Muni?

    • @unicyclebasics
      @unicyclebasics 3 дня назад

      I know that none of the hubs designed for unicycles will work, since they all use 100mm bearing spacing (hatchet has 125mm). Maybe one of the drift trike hubs has a wider spacing and could work.

    • @cas15n
      @cas15n 2 дня назад

      @@unicyclebasics thank you for the quick reply! I reached out to a couple of companies to see if they have one that will work. So far no luck though...

    Great tutorial. Just a remark on unicycle parts' quality and rider's weight parameters. I found Qu-ax luxus axle failing for me after 4 years, happened twice, same period of time each time, between crank and fork, my weight is around 70. Normal riding wouldn't have caused it, I hop quite often, sometimes I drop from heights up to 40-45 cm. I bet uni of muni's level will endure much more. After 2 breaks replaced it with q-axle hub.

    • @unicyclebasics
      @unicyclebasics 5 дней назад

      The luxus is not designed for jumps. If you are just hopping in place it can be fine, but it's explicitly not recommended to be used for anything but simple riding in the owners manual.

      @@unicyclebasics wanted to stress out exactly this point, the possibility of fatigue in a less sturdy unicycle due to frequent hoppig and occasional drops, although performed to result in very soft landings. No other more acrobatic activities were involved. 1-st breakdown happened while descending from a curb, 2-nd occurred during a mount. Now the hub is stronger, I assume the fork will hold with my activities. The fork and the seat post are the last original parts now (the rim was replaced by a strong one, the tyre is duro wildlife, plenty of air to absorb shocks with right pressure).

    Very good video man, thanks! What distance to the saddle would you recommend for a good compromise? I guess the lower the better if you were only to jump all the time, but when you're out riding on a trail it's quite nice if the saddle is a bit higher up.

    • @unicyclebasics
      @unicyclebasics 27 дней назад

      There is a point where going lower won't even help you jump better. I don't really have a good tip other than experimenting with seat height until you find a compromise that suits you, unfortunately.

    Hi Finn, Amazing tutorial, watched it 6 or 7 times now. Today for the first time, I manage to pull off coasting with out the brake, got continued forward motion without grinding to a stop and got the balance point just right, a very little correction needed but thats it. Normally 10-15m as much as I can manage. Today I managed 25-30m, 4 times in a row, then needed to start pedaling, but straight back to coasting as soon as I had enough momentum. Its taken me 2 years of hard practise, once I had done it several times over, I knew I had it cracked. Cannot tell you how amazing it felt, each time. I have a grin from ear to ear and cannot belive I have actually pulled ot off 😀😀😀😀 The tutorial video was a huge help and made the difference. I am bursting with happyness. Coasting was my final hurdle to overcome. Yes you can learn free wheel and coasting even @ 57. My fixed wheel buddies are going to be so jelous and to be honest I dont think anyone thought I could pull it off. 😀😀😀😀😀🎉🎊

      @unicyclebasics 2 месяца назад

      Impressive, glad I could help! I've found that currently I'm not spending enough time on the freewheel to coast more than a few meters reliably myself, but I know it's a great feeling when it works :)

  • @andrewhaigh7128
    @andrewhaigh7128 2 месяца назад

    Thank you for the video. Nice to see, at last someone has done a free wheel video using the brake. Very helpful indeed. I am at the stage, up to the end of your video. I can do the forward and jump mounts, ride uphill, on the flat and down hill. I can do short controlled coasts and keep balance 10-15m, but a long coast down a hill still eludes me. I have been working on pedal position, smooth pedaling and body posture, but generally come to a halt and have to start pedaling again. Brake pressure wise, 1 finger seems to work, uphill I can do with no brake, on the flat and downhill, I still need a tiny fraction. I can feel when I have everything right but just cannot get that consistantly enough. At 57 I find riding the brake vs the energy expended keeping balance, is really tough, but it is getting easier the more I can back off the the brake. Good to see I have been doing everything right and on the right track, I have got to grips with most things other than the long coast, so I will keenley wait for you next video. Any tips greatly appreciated. My mission is to prove anyone can learn to ride a free wheel uni even at 57. Most videos show, the very gifted enjoying free wheel riding, however none seem to want to share a tutorial or advice for those trying to learn using the brake. Amazing video, super useful and well put together. Thank you

    I was fascinated with muni so i bought a nimbus 32.... I used the break to hold my wheel still while learning and i felt it helped me to learn relatively quickly. I ordered the vcx cranks with adjustable pedal positions as i didnt know what size i would prefer. This unicycle has a lot of speed and i can get over bumps well. The downside is im trying to learn to idle and its a big challenge for me. Also there are very limited tire options. I take this unicycle with me EVERYWHERE! I take it to work i take it hiking i take it to the store and i can easily ride over 20 miles. If i was to do it all again i think id buy a hatchet 27.5 or a hatchet 29 inch. Reason for that is i like to ride in soft sand mud and snow in the winter and my tire on the 32 just doesn't perform as well as a fat tire would. Anyone that hits mild trails and bike trails i would fully recommend the 32 nimbus from unicycle.com. just sharing my experience.

    Great channel mate, I started learning to uni at 65, only a few times a month but now at 67 I'm trying to master it properly and get on it for an hour most days. My goal is to ride the pathways around my place, can ride my 20 inch up to 200 metres on a good day, regularly do 100 metres, also have a 24 inch mountain uni, rode it a bit but had a bad fall and think I'll just stay with the 20 inch until I get really good at it then move up. Can't free mount yet, but almost can. You are amazing off road on that thing, I'm assuming that it's just time in the saddle that makes you better, because this skill is a really slow one to build up, but loving it, you are great inspiration. Thanks, will definitely join the facebook group, thanks for the tip.

Ive even successfully trained a 6 year old girl to ride and she just learned to ride without help a few days ago on her 12 inch unicycle and already she can free mount and ride backwards. She insist on taking it to and from school and already she will ride for miles. Nothing makes me happier than sharing this sport because i feel its so rewarding and under rated.
