Surface Pro 2 Running 3 Monitors - One DisplayPort Cable
Просмотров 65 тыс.9 лет назад
Just wanted to share my 3 monitor setup with the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. I am not using a USB adapter, this is done with DisplayPort Multi Stream. Once cable out of the Surface Pro 2 can drive three independent monitors. Some people have had issues setting this up, and doubted weather the device could do it or not. I am not using To make this work I had to run Winodws Update. One of the update...
Yea but let's talk about the battery drain the charger cant even charge 😊
"Can't even charge"?? This is not a promise of DisplayPort, neither does this video try to talk about this.
This is not unique to the Surface Pro 3, daisy-chained monitors are their own technology, which I don't have. I was hoping to see how to hook up multiple non-daisy-chained monitors without having to use a docking station, but likely this is impossible.
what cables were used from surface pro to monitor 1 and from monitor 1 to monitor 2?
Did you find out what cables to use?
@@jenniferrochford5007 I’m afraid no. Using a different computer now.
every laptop not compatible to do daisey channing right???
Probably not. The video graphics has to support at least DisplayPort 1.2.
Question: Can you use only external monitors and turning off the Surface Pro screen? Or does the Surface Pro screen always have to be on???
You can use external monitors only, and turn off internal monitor.
hey dude - at least tell us what kind of adapter You used? Name of the model.
CABLES CABLES IS? ALL THIS MEANS NOTHING WITHOUT FULL DISCLOSURE OF THE TYPE OF CABLES YOU ARE USING TO CONNECT THE SURFACE TO THE MONITORS AND WHICH TYPE OF CABLES YOU ARE USING TO DAISY CHAIN? ARE YOU USING GRAPHIC ADAPTERS CABLES? HDMI? WHAT????????????
It's in the video. I'm using display-port, as that is the only video port in the surface.
It may be a language barrier, not sure how good your english is, but it's all in the video.
@@theoneed2051 My English is superb. Sorry “it” is not in your video as you did not mention the type of cables you are using to daisychain the three display Monitors. 🤷🏾 You don’t state whether you are using VGA or HDMI or anything specific. And the camera pans the the back too quick to do a visual verification.
@@carmelom269 Multi-stream is a display-port feature. I agree the video could be a tons better. With all the content in youtube nowadays, and the production value youtubers put mine is pretty mediocre. I recorded this in one take, one evening after work, I just wanted to share.
@@carmelom269 Anyway, just in case it's all display port cables.
G8 video. Whats the dell monitor model number & cable company names for both cables. I mean can i buy them from amazon. Thanks
I have the same set up I followed the instructions but 2nd monitor is not detected after reboot
So was it working before the reboot?? Be sure that DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled in your monitors. Also make sure that your computer is set up to use the two monitors in the display settings.
I have a surface pro 4, two monitors one with HDMI and VGA ports, one is only VGA port, trying to daisy chain but does not work. Will you kindly let me know if this possible or not?
Hi, like I said this is a DisplayPort 1.2 technology. You need DisplayPort on your monitors in order to do this.
Actually I'm having the lenovo ideapad c340 laptop and i want to extend the screen into my surface go tablet and surface 7 pro tablet .........so I need your help, how to extend it with cables not by using apps..............which cables do i need to extend the screens from my laptop to both the tablets
Is the surface connection to the monitors HDMI? Or is it DVI? VGA?
mini DisplayPort to HDMI
@@swayushvilla1817 lol yeah, I got the dock about 2weeks after this comment. I have 2 external monitors and it works great!
What monitors are those? & how many total displayports are needed for each monitor? I assume at least two, but normally I see these monitors stating that they have just one displayport (1.2.) Thanks!
So basically this whole video is to show off the capability of DP daisy chaining on certain monitors. The Surface aspect is irrelevant and makes the whole video a misnomer. Retitle your video and stop misleading people who aren't as savvy. There's a shit load of people in the comments trying all sorts of cables with their Surfaces.
Does the monitor have to have a "display port in" and a "display port out" specifically labelled as such or if the monitor specs just says it has 2 display ports is that going to work? And you sure this won't work on HDMI? My SP7 has a USB-C port and i see videos of people using a "USB-C to 2 x HDMI" adapter with 2 monitors, if the SP7 can separate the signal from the single USBC port into 2 seperate feeds for 2 monitors on HDMI then maybe it can do a daisy chain on HDMI cables? I have not bought my monitors yet which is why I am asking.
Oooph! So much to unpack for you here. First, This video *is* about DP and it's daisy chaining capabilities. So to do what I'm doing is you need DP in/out. Remember that USB-C is USB, so yes you can connect USB adapters that have multiple HDMI ports out, however that's not daisy chaining. Those USB display adapters will not have the performance as they are not connected to your SP internal video card. Furthermore I don't know that HDMI has daisy chaining capabilities. This you can search.
That same USB-C port can also carry DisplayPort 1.2 (the topic of this video) in which case you could also do Daisy chaining with.
Microsoft Surface Pro 3 Tablet PC with 128GB and Windows 8.1 Professional with 64bit version! JustU.Faith/Surface-Pro?浅 They wants me to have Windows 8.1 instead of Windows 10 because of a various bug.
How old are your monitors? I can see they are chained connected through HDMI, correct?
Cor-wrong - all through Displayport - it won't work unless you have a DP in/out on your monitors
Does this work with dvi inputs?
DisplayPort technology supports this.
Can you please show what cables you are using? I’ve been trying for 2 weeks now with different cables to connect my monitors to my surface pro 4? I’m desperate!
it require daisy chaning monitor
How can you acheive this with 2 32 inch flat screen sony TV...no video output...to daisy chain them?
Your TV's have to support this. As you can probably infer, your displays have to support daisy chaining. They would have to support DP 1.2 as well. To get around this you can get adapters that take one DP and split it into two. Essentially the adapter does the daisy chaining internally.
@@theoneed2051 so is it possible to go from a surface pro 3 into hdmi to one tv but how do i dasiy it to the second tv...both tv are the sam but no video output to go to the next tv...thanks
@@theoneed2051 I have 2 hdmi ports but they both say input...
@@JJ-ct7ti Then I guess you have your answer my friend!
@@JJ-ct7ti This is something supported by DisplayPort 1.2. I specifically said that in the video. I can't help further buddy.
Would a usb type c to display port work too?
It definitely should. As long as the source video card/DP implementation support DisplayPort 1.2, and your adapter passes that though there should be no issue. Note that there are cases where a USB type c adapter could internally just be USB 3 (USING USB-c port) in which case you'd have to find out from the manufacturer if it supports DP 1.2. Otherwise, USB-C (DisplayPort) to DisplayPort (standard DisplayPort port) adapter should work just fine.
will it work with pro6 i5 and windows 10?
The feature works with DisplayPort 1.2, is safe to assume that SP6 with i5 is compatible. Just make sure that your monitors are multi stream capable of rather DP 1.2 compatible.
would this work well if I used displayport > HDMI instead?
No, HDMI does not support multiple displays through one cable. This is a feature of DP 1.2. However, there are adapters that connect to a DisplayPort 1.2 video card and internally connect multiple DisplayPort connections with output to HDMI OR connect the output to multiple DisplayPorts in case your monitors are DisplayPort but don't support DisplayPort 1.2.
I have a surface pro 6 and two dell screens (U2518D and U2515H). Unfortunately it's not working. The laptop sees both monitors as one scree. The only thing I have different is that to connect the second screen I'm using a display port to mini display port. Could that be the issue?
Make sure your monitors support DisplayPort 1.2 or higher, and that DisplayPort 1.2 is enabled on your monitors. once. Set up make sure that extended display is also enabled in Windows.
Were you able to resolve your issue?
So u connect PC to surface or the opposite surface to Monitors ? Cuz i want to connect my PC to surface pro not the opposite
What?? These are monitors connected to Surface Pro computer.
what cable to did you use to go from the surface pro to the monitor?
Hello, it is a mini DisplayPort to full DisplayPort cable (mini DisplayPort find the Surface Side full DisplayPort for the monitor side). The monitors also have to be DisplayPort 1.2 compatible, this will give you all the ports necessary to make this happen.
Will I be okay if I use mini display port connect to HDMI adapter, which HDMI connects to one of the monitor 1 from my surface pro 6, and then with display cable connecting from monitor 1 to monitor 2? I want to extend to 3 different screen and not mirroring so will I be okay with this set up?
Thumbs down for the awful music and lack of explanation how you've done this. A better option would be to narrate "this is what I have, this is how I've done it", something along those lines. Thanks!
Hi, I actually uploaded another video narrating and showing what I did. It's the other video on my channel.
Surface pro 4? Support?
Ya what kind of cable, which port and so on would be pertinent info.
DisplayPort 1.2 cables and compatible monitors and video card is all you need.
What is the model of the monitors you are using?
I do not recall what monitors they are, but they are probably old monitors now. They are from Dell and you can confirm the that they are compatible with DisplayPort 1.2 by going into the spec section of the monitor page in Dells website.
Can I use 2 monitors with the wireless connect on the monitors?
Fernando Caparroz what is "the wireless connect".
TheOneEd there is a gadget wich I can connect surface on monitor without cables
I see. Understand that I don't now which gadget you're referring to and it would be more efficient if you shared that detail in your first message. If this device transmits DisplayPort signal wireless it should work. The adapter shown here simply Daisy chains three DisplayPort adapter, what you do with the signal after that is up to you! :-)
can i use an external keyboard ? where do i plug it ?
Hey bud! Question, what kind of cable is connected between monitors? I have one monitor but I am trying to display two monitors. Thanks for the video.
Btw, I tried the vga to vga and it wouldn’t display anything on the second monitor
This is only possible if your computer and your monitors have display ports. These are small USB-C looking ports on the side of newer laptops.
I'm using two DisplayPort cables. 1st cable: mini DisplayPort to Full DisplayPort cable; 2nd cable: full DisplayPort to full DisplayPort cable, aka normal display port cable. 1st cable connects from the mini DisplayPort on the surface to the input of the first monitor, second cable from output of the first monitor to input of second monitor.
How did you turn off surface display to add third monitor?
Walter Rim display settings. It can be tricky, as they have to be turn on and off in a certain order for it to work.
what's the model number of those monitors?
I am able to connect to external monitor but not able to move application from surface to external screen. Can you help me?? Thanks
Vikas Singh I think I don't fully understand the question. Is the connected monitor extending your desktop? Or what's being displayed on your second monitor? If the computer is sending a video signal to the monitor, display settings should be able to help with this issue.
what cable is connected from the surface to the monitor?
What the What A mini DisplayPort connected to the Surface to full DisplayPort connecting to the monitor.
so its mini Display port to USB 3.0 ?
Thanks for the video but what do i need to buy to have 2 more monitors like you have. Tyvm
the monitors that you will connect will NEED to have video IN AND video OUTputs on each monitor, or this 'daisy chaining' will n ot work
So only one of the monitors needs and in and out? on can just have an in?
Andy Your guide This is showing a daisy chain setup so you need the info and outs for that. For one monitor all you need is a input.
Erlee del Orbe I understand I think. If I want a two Monitor set up using the daisy chain method. My first Monitor would need an input and output, my second monitor would only need and input. Is this correct?
ProPalletCreations I'll give you two answers. In theory 'Yes', this should work; one monitor has the in/out the other only with an input, per the DP spec. However, for me this didn't work. I had to have both monitor support DP 1.2 (this gives you the in/out ports).
Thank you for saving me some coin.
Jacob Phillips You're welcome. May I ask, how so?
Is this feature also built into the i5? Thanks!
It is.
It's not a feature of the Surface its a feature of those particular monitors. That's the failing not mentioned here - you need DP in and out on your monitors which isn't very common.
your monitor have to have DisplayPort output . Some regular monitor does not have that function. Correct?
Omega alex the monitor stuff to support multi stream or Daisy chaining.
Look great! What's the frame rate on these two monitors?
Nice video. What special function(s) do the monitors have to have in order for this to work properly?
Kamil D. they have to support display port 1.2 and have a display port in and display port out (to daisy chain second monitor). Video source has to support DP1.2. with my monitors I had go into the settings menu of the monitor and enable display port 1.2. Hope that helps.
Hi, How do you make the Surface Pro screen turn off and make one of the other exterior monitors the main display? And hdmi adaptor are you using with 3 ports? And do they have one with 6 ports? I wonder if you can arrange them in 3 over 3 on windows setting. Please let me know if you know how. Thanks
Hi, which one did you buy? Thanks
Which what?
All cables, from SP3 to Monitor 1 , from Monitor 1 to Monitor 2
Is there any benefit to turning off the smaller surface monitor to improve performance for the larger connected monitors???? Thanks
I'm sure there will be a performance increase if the video card doesn't have to power the high res. built in monitor. This video, however, was made to showcase what the Surface video card is capable of, hence I left all three of them on.
Any recommendations for when one monitor is not displaying and the other one is flickering?
The only recommendation I have is to make sure you have good cables and a good connection. Also try turning the monitor on and off. My experience with my experience with DisplayPort port has been poor not very stable.
Thank you for the reply! I just got my mini-displayport to displayport hub and vga to displayport adaptors. Im bummed the connections are poor for others as well :(
Thanks for your video! May I know if there is a slag? Do you know whether it can work under linux?
There's minimal lag.
