    Actually some pickups being hotter than others was extremely common in 1959 .outputs were all over the place 50s PAFs ranged from 7k to 9k. The target output was about 8K but PAFs were wiildy inconsistent due to the Machines they were using to wind them . The machines had no automatic shut offs or timers or turn counters . The machines had to be shut off manually when the pickup was finished and since there was no turn counter they had to eyeball it . Seth Lover the creator of the PAF said they would shut the machine down when the bobbin looked full and because of this some pickups got several hundred extra turns of wire and some got several hundred turns of wire less than they should have which led to some PAFs being 7k some 7.5i some 8k and some 8.5k or higher a few have even been found to be over 9k . Also if someone got into a conversation with a co worker and got distracted they would forget about the pickup for a few minutes which resulted in a pickup wtih extra turns of wire and a higher output some would take a bathroom break or smoke break while the machine was winding the pickup and alot of times they wouldn't get back in time which again resulted in a pickup with several hundred extra turns of wiire . In some cases there would be 600 to 800 extra turns of wire on the bobbins but for the most part it was around 500 extra turns of of wire . 500 extra turns on each Bobbin would make the pickup about .5k hotter so if your target spec was 8K and there were 500 extra turns of wire on each bobhin your pickup would be 8.5k insdead of 8k . 1959 and 1960 PAFs tend to be hotter than the earlier ones from 57 and 58 and the later ones from 1961 and 62 .. its one of the reaons 1959 and 1960 les pauls were more sought after than the ones from 57 and 58 by guys who were playing hard rock like Jimmy Page and Joe Walsh Ace Frehley Bernie Marsden Eric Clapton Paul Kossoff Etc. The 59 and 60 Pafs were hotter and more aggressive and thus drove the amps harder into overdrive . On paper every PAF was supposed to be identical in every way but that basically never happened in realtiy . One PAF couls 7.5k with an Alnico 2 magnet and the very next one might be 8.6k with an A4 or A5 magnet . There is a reason Bernie Marsdens 59 les paul is called the beast . Its because it's got really hot and very aggressive sounding PAFs in it. Its considered one of the best original 59 les Pauls .

I thought the 1959 limited editions sounded better than his Custombuckers, but you can get boutique pups that sound perfectly like PAF clones for less than half what Gibson is charging for their "1959s”. @WizzPickups charges $1000 for their pups wound with actual 1950’s NOS 42awg wound Clones, and $425 for their regular Premium Clone PAFs that are wound with reissue 50’s 42awg wire. Why not just make the already overpriced burstbucker correctly in the first place? Its astounding how Gibson and Fender charge astrinomical numbers to make guitars that used to be the run of the mill! but hasn't gibson been telling their customers for decades that they actually had authentic recreations of paf's in their custom guitars? Once these thousand pickups are sold, are they going to say "just kidding! Here's our actual recreation of paf's, just 2k a pair!" Also, after gibson released their "historic spec" bumblebee capacitors, why should anyone believe their claims that these pickups are anything special at all? Like the bumblebee's, they are probably just 2 dollar chinese pickups in a fancy tweed case. Also dude, you could not have fucked that AB up any worse if you tried. Are you going to take the pickups out of the guitar and put them back in the case when you're not playing it? People are buying these pickups so that they can resell that at a profit (hopefully). Anyone with half a brain knows these pickups won't be anything special.

    • @PatatoKeftes
      @PatatoKeftes 17 дней назад

      There are 2 major problems with these pickups, neither of which is about buying them. 1. Gibson is selling 10k "authentic reissue" guitars, that come eqquipped with, let's face it, burstbuckers with different magnets in them. If they have the means to create a decent set of vintage correct pickups, they should equip their custom shop guitars with them. 2. As far as PAF type pickups go, there are objectively better options at almost half the price. Keep them in their nice case, maintain their value and in 10-15 years maybe that collector's set will be worth something. INSTALLING them is the problem, installing them renders the 1000$ spent a waste of money since we can have better for less.

      @@PatatoKeftesit’s all relative… trust me, you probably have a set of pickups that some guy is calling you stupid for getting because they got some Chinese shit off temu and believe that it sounds better than whatever you have, be it Seth lovers/lollar/bare knuckles or whatever. There’s always gonna be that type of person, and right now it’s you. Taste is subjective, and the part you’re clinging to about feeling that installing them ruins their collectibility-it’s just flat wrong, not even an objective opinion, just wrong. If they’re sought after then they’re sought after, if they get a rep for sucking no one will want them in or out of the box. SD pickups were 650 a set not that long ago, people are convinced they’re holy grail so if you find them they’re around 2k, and yes… even after they were installed and taken back out. Point is, if people believe they’re special they don’t give a shit if they got installed or not, the bulk of the market aren’t guys who put them in a showcase.

There are plenty of pickups selling in the $400 - $800 range theses days and everyone claims they are awesome. When they sell them used, they can't get 40% of what they paid for them. People boast about their equiptment much like golfers with their $1,000 drivers, but they still only drive 180 yards. Bonamassa would sound great playing a Squier but he plays $300,000 guitars. If you believe they sound better, you will play more and be better. I bought 2 sets of these and can't wait to put them in. These are authentic Gibson and time will prove they will be in demand and hold their value. It's a unique marketing idea that has been successful.
