@@KyleAnastasio I would have to first find out where one is; especially in the base solo. The camera angle shows your grip with your left hand. I've been trying to get this adult student who is a beginner to hold his sticks better and use his fingers but teaching technique is always the tough part for me so any tips would be helpful. I'm going to get his e-mail address and send him a couple of your videos (with your permission of course).

@@spercoco Thanks again, my friend. I'm actually working on changing my grip, since it's pretty archaic compared to some of these young studs. I've always had my fulcrum on the index finger, which is a bit inhibiting. Now way behind the curve, I'm trying to develop it to pivot over the middle finger giving a little less strenuous effort and hopefully more endurance, maybe even speed. One way I wish I had tried sooner to develop my grip was, yes, here it is again, The Moeller method. There are plenty of videos on it, but none that seem to stick with me in learning how to improve on it.. So, I keep working at it a little each day but in no way at this time have I been able to actually integrate it into my playing. Maybe just a brain block but that would be the way to start your student out. But, you can show him all the videos of mine you want. I can also put a video together maybe just showing him static grip at first. But you know the whole rebound catch the stick stuff. Hell, you started me out! @@KyleAnastasio Yeah I remember watching a video recently of some really old dude who always gets mentioned; it was not Moeller and was not Freddie Gruber but some other name that always pops up that I just can't remember. He was sitting there and showing Luie Bellson and Bellson was doing the playing and this guy just explaining. It was almost funny to see someone like Bellson as a student. I learned nothing but was entertained. I've never played golf but I would imagine technique is so important in many sports. I've always been just flying by the seat of my pants. Never learned the proper way to play tennis either; I just run fast!

@@KyleAnastasio This version was not lack luster at all imo; I was saying you need more views so maybe make the video title more provocative. But I'll give the other version a listen as well and I'm not sure if I will like one version over the other. This type of music to me is border line dentist office so it shouldn't be played too aggressively; again just my opinion. I've compared you to JR Robinson before because of the similarity in look and playing style; he IS an aggressive player but he's playing Michael Jackson, Chaka Kahn, etc....And you forgot to tell me the sticking although I could figure it out if I weren't so lazy.

As far as which hand I hit the snare with, I really don't put much thought into the process. Pretty much just happens depending on where I'm going next. Vinnie C. said it best: "Thought is the enemy of flow" Although some days, it seems easier to do than others. Depending on how challenging the tune is for me.

@@KyleAnastasio Thanks for the links. I agree with not over thinking and I was just telling a student today to think of drumming as a wheel that is spinning; you shouldn't be able to see the spokes on the wheel when it is in fluid motion but as soon as you start to slow the wheel down and see the spokes (limbs in our case) that's when we start to mess up. Now I just have to follow my own advice bbwwaaa haa!
