Grazie e buon anno.

    What were the three strings used when this instrument was made?

    This is very interesting to watch. I wish the screen time for each still image was longer by at least 2 seconds. There's a lot to take in from these pictures and I had to pause and restart many times. Still it's a very interesting process.

    It's the most shocking restauration of an instrument I have ever seen. The damage you have done is beyond repair. You should have saved the varnish at least! This is not a Restauration, it's a deformation of an old historic instrument into a new looking one. You would have served the purpose better if you would have build a new one based on the model of this historic valueable instrument.

    I've restored flat back basses and I've told the owners that they have to keep their instruments humidified in the winter when it gets really cold so the dry air doesn't do the damage that I just un-did. Well, they left for the Christmas holidays and came back 2 weeks later. The janitor was supposed to keep the humidifier filled. He forgot. The instrument came right back and it was now my fault. Flat back basses are extremely prone to cracking because there's no arch to give when they shrink. Keep them humidified or sell them to someone down south where the air is humid. This happened multiple times to me. Not my fault-

    Beautiful work indeed. However, sloping sides on a bass are a problem. They make it very difficult to pick it up the instrument or even to put it on a chair. Placing 2 fingers in the F-hole while your left hand holds the neck is a good solution, but not in the long run.

    Three strings? I'm confused. This certainly is ancient

    • @federicoandre5717
      @federicoandre5717 4 года назад

      Not really. Up until the 19th century it was very common for basses to have only 3 strings. Bottesini played on a 3-string bass and it wasn't until the 20th century that the use of 3-string basses was (almost) discontinued, in favor of mostly 4-string basses. And if you look at the label inside the bass, it says it was made in 18(2?)8, so it's not that old when compared to others from the 1500's and 1600's that are still being played today
