We use a Aquascape wetland filter that runs 24/7 keeping the pond clear!

In Texas you loose about 2-3 inches a week when it’s real hot!

You have to keep the wetland running 24/7 that’s the life support that keeps it clear. Might need more batteries. Hard to keep it not turning green with no water running

keeping the water moving deters mozzies, if you dont want full pump running, an aerostone pumping in air can help for less energy (small battery pack attached to solar panel should do). but would recommend continual pump.

This pond was 35’ x 40’ x 5’ deep

There is good and bad with everything our biological filter does break down excessive waste we’re a mind pond it just settles to bottom and turns to ammonia. We recommend clean out once a year to help get the rest of the muck out. 18 years I can honestly say the fish in every pond we have thrive. We have a fish vet who checks on some of our ponds regularly and she says they all stay very healthy.

@@FncPonds I guess there is alot at play. For instance I'm in the south and I find my fish thrive in natural ponds.. My pond is naturally clear in the winter months.. I have a lot of pond plants and just one pump thats solar powered.. It only pumps 350 gph and I have a 1500 gallon pond, but fish seem to thrive and they spawn every year.. 5 years strong already and haven't lost one fish.. I've never added any chemicals or removed any of the grime off the liner.. I did however, own a clear pond like yours and would clean each year but we would lose a fish or two and they would never spawn.. I find natural ponds attract all kinds of wild life.. We always have dragon flies, toads and even snakes, the good kind though! haha. But seriously, that stream you made is awesome! I'm inspired to add a stream to my pond now.

@@FncPonds I should add, I do have to clean the bottom of the pond every now and again.. Just to remove debris, leaves twigs etc.. but I always try to not scrape the rocks or liner..

It is a natural ecosystem it attracts all life. But 18 years of doing this I have seen very few snakes. Even ones deep in the woods clients have seen very few

You can wall/fence off if you want around outside, there are natural deterrents if you dont like that route. Ideally you get a snake eating bird roosting nearby, such as a heron.

Wetland filtration is the best at clearing up green water. Flocculant is best for muddy water

We used 30 aquablox and pumping this out from a existing stream

The wetland takes care of a lot of the water quality it’s more about keeping debris from building up and rotting out
