Fleabitten Side Quests
США
Добавлен 23 окт 2022
Welcome to my second channel, Fleabitten Side Quests (formerly Fleabitten Walk & Drive). This channel is where I'm going to post the videos that don't have anything to do with flea markets, antique stores, malls, stores, or that I just don't think will get a lot of views on my main channel, Fleabitten Adventures. A lot of these videos will have little to no talking. Thanks!
My Journey to the Last Full-Size Kmart in the United States via the Cross Sound Ferry!

This was my first time every taking the Cross Sound Ferry, and, if you've got the time and money, I would highly recommend it! It's not cheap though. The round trip for me an my mom, plus my car, was about $190.
Also, FYI, this is mostly a "no talk" video.

Like a year or two ago my family went to the Mystic seaport in Mystic Connecticut with the home base foundation for military vets like my dad who's a army veteran and we just loved it we went on a boat tour because Mystic seaport isn't a seaport at all 😅😂 because that what our ship captain said when we went on the boat tour when we went and one of the ships we were able to go below deck 😄😅 yes that's what it called below deck and see where the captain slept and all of his crew members and they do have a live cooking demonstration and there's the trey planetarium and I went there and it was AWESOME 😎 to fill the astromoner in me since I love astronomy and they have a room full of games puppets and books they have a whaling hall 😅 and a discovery barn they have a gallery room a Thomas oyster room oh you can't forget the general store a church a Mystic river scale model a boat shop where they tell you about different types of boats used back then to sail the 7 seas😅 a horse 🐴🐎 and buggy ride a creative station you never know what it will be the day we went we built model boats with hot glue don't worry they don't hold up at all we learned from experience with all 3 of us me my sister and our only brother Luke and I was going through hot glue sticks like they were coming out of my wazo and they are pet friendly so you can bring your puppy with you and I do recommend to bring your own lunch because the food there is expensive and we brought sandwich making supplies and made sandwiches there and with the home base foundation for military vets we were able to bypass the general admission 🎫🎟️ line because of us going through with the home base foundation because we got some extra goodies we got stickers and my brother's sticker is withering away on his to go coffee cup before you can see some orange but it's like completely gone now 😅
Just subbed with both my accounts. You’ll get to 1k very soon I’m sure.
Thanks! I hope so.
Definitely interested to see your video on Fort Trumbull! Also, there’s a boat tour in summer of CT lighthouses that leaves from New London. Might be something of interest to you and Mom.
I'll have to look into that lighthouse tour! Thanks!
@@fleabittensidequests You're welcome! It's Cross Sound Cruises, same company as the ferry.
Just subbed 😅
Thanks!
Just subbed to this second channel. I thought the aquarium video was great. This was also a great one. Very cool ferry, beautiful beach. If you keep mentioning this channel on your main, I'm sure you'll hit 1k fast. Thanks Tom.
Thanks! I'm not sure why I didn't mention this channel on my main channel earlier.... More videos to come!
Here I am ! #521
Thanks!
Just subscribed, thought may as well watch your other channel, always smile at the names of places there, just been working in our capital London, and I live in Manchester, UK of course 😂.
Thanks for subscribing! I do live in New England, so there are a lot of names you'll probably recognize.
Love taking the ferry to LI. The price has gone up a lot! The wineries and garden shops are fun to explore. Thanks for the tour!
It was fun, but being almost the cost of an airline ticket, I don't think I'll be taking this ferry too often. Thanks for watching!
Hey Tom, I really love your other channel, so I joined this one also today 1-4-25
Thanks! I appreciate it!
Subbed… Tom, sometimes the videos you don’t think will get views are the ones that go crazy! 🎉🎉🎉
Thanks for subscribing! Yes, sometimes random videos get more views that I expect. However, it seems that videos of museums, state parks, and anything not dead mall or flea market related get very low numbers of views. I still want to post the videos, but I don't want them to "hurt" Fleabitten Adventures, so I figure I'll post them here and see what happens. Thanks!
Post the video! Love Fort Trumbull
Will do! Thanks!
looks like wind mill props..
Oh yeah! Could be! Thanks for watching!
Just subscribed this morning. My grandparents used to live on Long Island and we'd take the ferry from Bridgeport to visit them. It's been over 35years but I still remember how much I loathed that one hour boat ride. For a ten year old it felt like a five hour trip. One of the favorite parts of the vacation was visiting the mall at night. My grandparents liked to go right before closing and we'd watch the stores close up. Might sound boring but it's really peaceful being in a virtually empty mall at night.
Thanks for watching and subscribing! I agree about the mall at night, or any empty mall. Very relaxing!
44, 8, 202 to 7. Nice but 84 is likely faster on a Sunday am. I know scenic route for vid. Also at 1:09.23 you pass a closed hamburger and hot dog stand called Clamps its only open from late April or early may thru mid September, it has no ph# /, even address, not even a sign. Its the best hamburger in the state, since 1939. Trust me, try it.
Thanks for the info! And yes, I much prefer taking the back roads than I-84. Great scenery!
50 years ago I took all of my swim lessons on Silver Beach. The building remnants are those of a Convent that was wiped off the island in the 38 hurricane (I think that was the hurricane) Some time in the 70's the power company wanted to build a generation plant on that island. And keep in mind that several people have drown being swept off that bar as the tide is coming in.
Thanks for the info! I was also very careful to get there at low tide. I really didn't want to get swept out to sea.
My husband and I used to live near here and we walked it many times! We love and miss the whole area. It's been at least 4 years, so thank you for this. ❤
Thanks for watching! It's a beautiful place.
At one time a nuclear reactor was considered for this island.
Interesting. I never heard that. It would have to be a pretty small nuclear reactor though.
@@fleabittensidequests ui actually owned it for awhile in connection with the project.
Thanks for the wonderful video, and a huge thanks for not ruining it with crappy background music. I don't know why some people feel compelled to add annoying background music throughout their videos.
Thanks, I appreciate that.
Is there cell phone coverage on Charles Island?
Yes. It's very close to Milford, CT, which is a large town/city.
Yes. It's very close to Milford, CT, which is a large town/city.
How deep, at high tide, is the water over the sand bar?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think only maybe a foot or two????? Don't try to walk through it though, I hear there are very strong currents there!
@@fleabittensidequests It can be four to six feet, small power boats often cross it at high tide as a shortcut into Milford Harbor. If low tide is overnight, fishermen will tell you active deer herds from shore routinely go out there to feed. Many people have been lost here over the years trying to walk the bar when the tide overtakes them.
Tomorrow is Sept. 9th. Now I can think about getting out there to take this hike. Before the Snow Flies! 😲🌨 Thanks for the heads up on the time table. I am sure getting stranded out there in January could be deadly.🕒🕔🌒❄🥶
Yes, be careful!
I ride to the parking lot, from work, some days (3 times so far) and have my lunch at Silver Sands! I did not know about this Island. I've only been at my new job for two years. I will have to ask the "natives" at work about it. Thanks for taking us there! 🏝🐣🚶🙂
Thanks for watching!
How high does the sandbar get once it covers the sand? My Dad use to carry me to the sandbar when I was little at Sound View. There was a spot of water that went over our heads and then we would be on the sandbar. So smooth and soft😃
Not sure. Another commenter said that it can get over 6 feet deep at high tide.
I went out there in my Dad's small sailboat in 74', anchored offshore and did some serious exploring in the middle before there was any trail. I succeded in finding something worth all the crawling through the underbrush - a 6ft shrine of Virgin Mary, which I learned later must have been leftover from when a monastery was there.
I was 12! In Bethany. 🙂
@@jlucasound I was 17 and had spent summers in the junior sailing program at Milford Yacht Club for several years. We had a tradition back then of a "Around The Island Race" to end the summer, followed by the mooring of the boats and going onto the little sandy beach for a cookout. So much fun ! I guess that was why I was curious afterwards to check out every inch of the island I could get to.
Yes, I heard about that! I don't know if it's gone now, but I didn't see it.
Never knew this existed. Beautiful. Thank you. My granddaughter and I will be visiting!
Glad you liked the video! Thanks for watching!
Also ,Rocky shored that surrounds the island is also quite beautiful when visibilty is peak . Its has comeback from a graffiti laden , pleasure boat dump site in the 50s
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the upload !!
And thank you for watching!
Thanks for taking us along on this great tour!
Thanks for watching!
Great video! We stopped there last fall on the way to Cornwall covered bridge. Glad we found your 2nd channel!
Thanks for watching! You're one of the few who have found my second channel!

That was quite an adventure! Thanks for sharing. Glad you made it back safely.
Thanks for watching!

Sure is.
Make a video at the new Peabody museum at Yale
Has it re-opened? Last time I checked it was closed for renovation. Are the dinosaurs back?
OK. Just checked. It's re-opening 03/26/24. Thanks!

Have you ever been to edgerton park it’s in New Haven/ Hamden ct, and it’s nice beafual park to go to for a walk
Not yet. I may go later this year. Thanks for the suggestion!
Awesome, very relaxing thanks! ✌️😁
Glad you liked it! Thanks!
Thanks for the great video, I'm going to check the tide charts for sure and do this walk next month!
Good luck! It can be tricky getting the timing right. Also, I read that if the high tide is less than +0.5 feet, or something like that, then it may be closed.
This is awesome, thanks ✌️😁
Ban those dogs
Glad you like it!
Hopefully the owners were cleaning up after them.
Gorgeous episode bud, scenery is amazing!
Thanks! Glad you liked it!
Awesome video, thanks for the adventure ✌️😎
Thanks!
Those killer dogs should be illegal to own
Nice video! Some years ago, the Hartford Marathon Foundation organized a series of summer races called the Extreme Scramble where you went up one set of stairs, across the overpass, and down the other side as well as went into the woods near River Park and over some dirt piles from the construction.
Thanks for the info and for watching!
I'm taking a walk here today since it looks interesting af and I'm new to ct haha thanks for this video I was googling like crazy trying to find it!
Did you survive?
Please let me know how to contact you. I'll delete the comment after, just might have a good lead on a recent video you did. A little time sensitive. Let me know
