I dont think its because of the speed bag or not just the speed bag. Coach and I work a lot on controlling or manipulating the other persons hands or body.

@@JorgeSanchez-jibaro so great to see. I never could do it on the street as a teen. Boxing is a super power ha ha. I mean the power from the heavy bag, the hand reflexes from the hand drills and speed bag, the ducking, y pol el amol de Dios the footwork! I should've learned it, but I was worried the coach would use me as a punching bag for the kids he liked. Oh well, my loss. But it's amazing to see your parries. Felicidades!

well thank you but its not too late to start. i started when i was past 50 and i dont look too bad. but i have said it in other videos the key is find a gym that you feel comfy with and respects you. lots of gym unfortunately will use the new folks as punching bags.

Funny this is what I was expecting more of when I posted this..not about the size of my gloves ha! As with many things in life its about what you feel comfy with. I totally agree this leaves my face wide open which means I have to have better head movement. Also keep in mind when I'm in mid to close range I tend to switch up do a more "high" guard defense as there is less time to react to a punch and you have to be super quick to use philly in close range, which I am not just yet. The one thing I will say about the philly shell and I have been told this by people I spar, the jab comes from an angle they are not used to.

Canelos high guard is outside of his eyes then he closes when a punch is incoming

if you look at my latest video i actually talk about people asking me about the size of my gloves :)

They are 16 oz. In our gym we use 16oz when we spar and I find it is still good for bag work and pad work.

ha no they may look that big but only 16oz. pro fighters during a pro match i think its 8oz so yeah compared to that 16oz looks huge. its to keep people safe during sparring.

Hello and thanks for the comment! As I have said in a previous video if you want to box and spar and compete you first have to find a gym you feel comfortable with. Second as with any sport there is a risk of injury but if you are safe and properly trained that risk goes down. Third, if you start boxing you have to listen to your body and know when it needs some time off. Like if you spar 5 days in a row your body might be saying "I need a break". If you keep sparring then you might risk hurting yourself. Keep in mind most gyms you are not going to be able to walk in and get in the ring and spar the first day. If they let you do that then that is a red flag because they are using you so that the more experienced guy can beat up on you.

@@obear3o311 Most gym will let you try a lesson/session for free. Also, if there are women doing the classes that is a good sign. When it comes to doing combat sports women dont stay at a gym if its full of meatheads. Good luck and let me know how it goes!!
