Upgrading My eBike, powered by a CYC Motor, with Traditional wheels for Better Performance!
Просмотров 376Месяц назад
In this video, I share why I replaced the rear hub motor on my fat tire e-bike with a traditional 26"x4" wheel. Thanks to the raw power and performance of the CYC X1 Pro Gen4 mid-drive motor, I no longer needed the heavy hub motor. This upgrade dramatically improved my bike’s balance, reduced overall weight, and enhanced handling, making it perfect for aggressive riding and technical trails. I’...
Sprocket replacement for CYC X1 Pro Gen4

In this video, I walk you through the process of upgrading the sprocket on my CYC X1 Pro Gen 4 motor. I decided to replace the stock 38-tooth sprocket with a 48-tooth sprocket to eliminate ghost pedaling and improve my bike's overall speed on the trails. With the larger sprocket, I can now maintain a more efficient cadence at higher speeds, making my rides smoother and more enjoyable. If you're...

Hi there, check it out! I'm gonna show you how to install the X1 Pro Gen 4 on any BSA threaded frame. In my case, I'm putting it on my Aventon Adventure Fat Tire E-bike. I need more power and torque, especially when I'm going up steep hills. I don't want to slow down to 17 miles per hour and hold up traffic. Another reason I chose this conversion kit is so I can pull my bike trailer when I go g...

Downgrading Aventon Aventure 2.0 from torque sensor to a cadence sensor
Просмотров 5517 месяцев назад
This video is for downgrading from a torque sensor to a cadence sensor on an AA e-bike involves replacing the more sophisticated torque-sensing mechanism with a simpler cadence-sensing system, A torque sensor measures the amount of force applied to the pedals, providing a proportional power output from the motor based on the rider's pedaling effort. This results in a more intuitive and responsi...
Wait to see how Jp40 will work on your e bike... I would like to tell the sag difference from molicel p45b to Jp40...
@Antony--DIY Thanks for following, i'll definitely will do that, build and compare it with p45b and p42a, 👍🙏😊
this is exactly what i was looking for. I got rid of my Pace 500 in favor of a Level 2 and i HATE the torque sensor. i’m hoping it is an equally east modification as it is for this biek
@wyldstealer you make sure hopefully, they did not change the bottom bracket opening size and make sure to order the level v1.0 controller, display, and cadence sensor, just a reminder, you are gonna lose the color display, Once you do this.
I planning to sell my bike that come with cadence sensor and get a torque sensor bike but it will cost a lot of money. Thanks for tutorial.
@benjoshd3386 If you follow my video, you will be able to do the upgrade to the torque sensor, and it will cost you only $278. And that's included the the dual taillights, but you have to cut and extend the wire to reach the back, and if you go to Aventon Aventure owners group on facebook, you can check my previous post. I want to do the exact opposite I want to replace my bike from cadence to torque sensor
@benjoshd3386 i'm glad my video was hopeful to you. Thanks for the support.
Good informative video. My experience with 219H chains and some other chains is that they may be stiff after manufacture and need to be broken-in. The brake-in process is that you hold the chain sideways with both hands then flex the chain from side-to-side, pass a bit of chain through, and repeat the process for the whole chain - flex, pass, flex, pass - until the chain is flexible. Also, after flexing the chain you may want to strip it in a solvent bath, and then hot wax it or saturate it in your lube of choice to get down into the plates, rollers, and pins.
Thank you very much for the advice, @leroyunger7710. I will definitely try that in the future. I truly appreciate your comments.
Amazing video content and editing buddy. Thanks for the info !!!
I'm glad you liked it, i like to share to benefit everybody 😊👍

how long did it take to get your wheels?
@markdominguez9769 i ordered it on september 9/20, and it got delivered on 10/10. 🎉 I ordered another set of wheel. And It just arrived yesterday. 👀 Look much better quality than the one in the video. 👍
Here is the link for the new sets of wheels. I just found this on AliExpress: $218.88 | Kalosse Beach Bicycle Wheels 26X4.0 , 2 Bearings Hubs, 80mm Width Bike Wheel , 135mm, 190mm a.aliexpress.com/_mrSkq8F

@ I’m doing a similar build on an Ariel rider grizzly but with 20x4 wheels from eBay, taking a long time to ship from china, maybe I should have used what you did. Only thing I’m worried about is if it will take a cassette. Looking forward to the new videos, thanks for the feedback 🤙
Don't try to buy the same wheel. 🚫 I installed it on my bike, it just broke after two rides. 🚲 This manufacturer is trash, the wheels that it delivered yesterday? 🗑️ It's much solid, but I still have to test it out, i'm glad I didn't get hurt. 🤕 I was doing seven miles, and the break rotor came off the wheel, i found out screws missing and two broken screws, I'm glad the new wheels just delivered yesterday. 📦 It's much solid and better quality, i'm gonna test it out and let you know.
Holy moly I wanna do this so much 😂
Yeah, it's a really powerful motor. I tested it with only 52 volts. I'm going to build several 67-volt batteries and one 72-volt battery soon.
Does anyone know how to remove the 32T chainring from the x1 pro gen 4? It is much smaller than the one in this video and there seems to be no way to slip it over the torque sensor to free it.
I think is hard, you have to remove the freewheel with the torque sensor from the cyc mount.
NICE !!!
Hi what is your bike stand? Im struggling to find one that can hold the weight of an ebike
I got it from amazon. That is really fun !!! Plenty of power. I need a full suspension one !!
Hi, Great video. I'm trying to do a similar conversion of my bike and also need to replace my rear wheel. I saw that your dimensions are the same as what I'm looking for. Have you been able to find a wheel without a motor that fits? One that fits a larger gear case?
Here's a friendlier and more polished version of your comment: --- Hi @raphaeldoelker940, I'm really glad you enjoyed the video! I'd love to help you out with some recommendations for your bike. Could you let me know what type of bike you have? That way, I can give you the best advice. As for the traditional wheel with the hub motor, I initially ordered a budget wheel from AliExpress. Unfortunately, after installing it, I noticed the axle kept bending after every ride. So, I decided to invest in a better-quality hub to build onto the existing wheel. After waiting a month, I found out my bike shop couldn’t get the spokes due to a backorder, so I had to cancel the order. I’ve since ordered two new sets of wheels (front and rear) from different manufacturers, also from AliExpress, but these seem more promising and have already shipped. Once they arrive, I’ll test both and see which one performs the best. If you're interested, here are the links to the wheels I found: First set: Kalosse Fat Bike Wheels, Snow Bicycle Wheel, 2 Bearings, 135mm, 190mm, 20X4.0 a.aliexpress.com/_mPBtr9A Second set: Just found this amazing item on AliExpress. Check it out! $128.60 | 26x4.0/4.9 Inch Fat Bike Snowbike Disc Brake Wheel Set Peilin Hub Hollow Front 135mm Rear 190mm Fatbike Anodized Color a.aliexpress.com/_mLIV9OC Feel free to check them out!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your video !! (and for the comment)
cool, but if you're not powering that heavy rear hub ... then why use that extremely heavy bike? you could shave like 20 lbs off that build. get a $500 dollar hard tail
Thank you for your feedback. I appreciate your input. I have already ordered two sets of Tradition Wheels, two front and two rear, from AliExpress. They have already been shipped, and I am eagerly waiting to receive them. I previously used a cheaper version, but the axle kept bending. I even purchased the Tradition hub itself and took it to Local bike shop. After waiting for a month, he informed me that he could not obtain the spokes as they were on back order. Consequently, I requested that they cease the construction.
@eBikeXtream i understand. and everything cost money too. I don't know your situation but I just think it could be more efficient on a lighter frame. :) keep building i love seeing other people's projects. those motors are super powerful it seems, looks better than my bbs02
I completely agree with you. The reason I built this bike is because I enjoy commuting and doing local grocery shopping. With this bike, I can pull a bike trailer behind me and still maintain a good speed without slowing down traffic, which can be dangerous. Also, if you watch the video about replacing the sprocket on my other mountain bike, which is Specialize demo 8, Full suspension downhill bike, powered by a Cyc X1 Pro Gen3 X12 controller, you'll see that it's a labor of love. I can ride that bike all day long as long as I have half a charge in the battery. I'm also building multiple batteries so that I can ride it for even longer periods of time.
@eBikeXtream dang I'm gonna have to watch more of your videos ! I herd the full suspension can be a little more tricky
Yes, it is a lot of fun. I actually tried mountain biking for the first time with my Specialized Demo Eight, Cyc X1 Pro Gen 3, X12 Controller, and 52V only. I had a wonderful and enjoyable experience. I never knew what I was missing out on. It was so much fun. Cycling with full suspension is the way to go.
one idea to avoid using you support system is take 2 pieces of aluminum 1/8 thick x 1.5 wide and a few inches long from the CYC motor frame to the bottom of your frame and securing with bolts on each end after drilling into lower frame in two spots on each side, 5 or 6mm short bolt with nut and washers, if you ever remove you can buy plastic black plugs that would fit in the holes, would look clean and be very sturdy, you could even paint the pieces or shape then so they look fancier rather then just two short rectangle pieces
Thank you for your feedback, I truly appreciate it. I would like to inform you that if you have watched my latest video regarding the sprocket replacement, you will notice that I have made some changes to the materials used. I have replaced the previous components with fully threaded rods made of 304 stainless steel, measuring M5 x 190mm. This change has significantly improved the security of the motor.
great install video. question why did you go with a 120mm kit, looks like your bike is 100mm bottom bracket....
@sladdster, I am delighted that you enjoyed my video. Regarding the motor selection, I decided to go with a 120 mm motor because my down tube is quite wide. When I attempted to mount the motor using the motor hanger, the screws came dangerously close to hitting and potentially scratching my frame. This is exactly what happened to my friend Nelvick (diy500amp), which is his youtube channel that has the same bike brand. His screws made contact with the bike's frame, resulting in two unsightly scratches on the paint. Another reason I opted for the 120mm over the 100mm motor is its versatility. I can use this motor on my Kona Operator DL full-suspension bike as well. In my experience, these motors perform exceptionally well on full-suspension mountain bikes.
@@eBikeXtream thank you for the reply, was asking as I'm about to buy the same motor and looks like 100mm would fit my frame but thought 120mm kit may avoid any possible fitment issues due to my unusual frame characteristics on my particular bike
The specialise demo 👌 both bikes are amazing tho!
The Specialize demo is my preferred choice due to the substantial control it provides over the bicycle, ensuring both comfort and swiftness during usage. The fat tire ebike is also enjoyable, but I primarily use it for commuting or local grocery shopping on the road. I am currently constructing an in-frame 72v battery using Molicel cells. Subsequently, I intend to create another pack using the brand-new high-performance JP40 cells. I will share my build process step by step on my channel. I am pleased that you appreciate my bicycle setup. Thank you for the support.🥰
Another great video my friend !!! I need to change mine to resolve the ghost pedaling. This will solve my issue for suere !!! THANKS AGAIN !!

Man, that's awesome, I sold my Velotric Nomad 1 (cadence sensor) and bought the Aventure 2, I paid an extra 1k for the Av2 , within the first hours of the purchase I regretted so much because I was spoiled by the cadence sensor. I use this bike to go to work and I want to push my self and exercise but having this option is a life saver when I want to switch to cadence, that's awesome. I still need to call Aventon to buy the parts and try my hand on installing them. I am new to this ebike world but I think I can change to cadence sensor, I can't thank you enough for your video man, keep it up! Btw where do you live? I live in Canada.

@denvermatt You can switch back and forth the parts, If you upgrade from Cadence sensor to torque sensor, It's possible. It costs $278, And if you downgrade your torque sensor Cadence sensor, It's also possible it will cost less than $200, It's cheaper to replace the parts than replacing the bike. Nice motor, would it be safe to drive this motor in the rain?
Yes, it is designed to withstand extreme conditions such as rain, mud, dust, and snow. However, it is important to clean and lubricate the bike after heavy use to ensure its longevity and optimal performance.
What is your bikes battery stock BMS rated for? I want to do this with my Voltbike, but im wondering if its worth running an x1 at 48V and 20-25 amps
Thank you for your comment. I appreciate your input. I am not using the stock battery with this kit because it is not powerful enough. I am using a jumbo shark battery that is 52v 25Ah with a 50A BMS. It can peak over 70A, but I cannot use it for too long. You can use your battery on street mode, but it is not ideal for this motor. If you want to enjoy the best performance, you should use a 72v battery. I am currently building a 72v battery with Samsung 50S cells and a Daly 100-200A BMS. Once I finish the battery build, I will share the video and show all the parts needed and how I built it. If you do not have the skills to build your own battery, you can purchase one from Bicycle Motor Works or Electrify Bike Company. This motor can be used with batteries ranging from 36v to 72v, but the performance will vary depending on the battery cells and BMS rating. Using a battery with a higher voltage will provide better torque and faster speed. You can also use your current battery as a backup in case you run out of juice, but only use it on street mode at a maximum speed of 25mph.

Hello @levilies9956, I am delighted that you enjoyed my video. I am skilled with my hands, but not so much with video capturing and editing. That is why I used the Insta360 x3 and the remote to add the GPS speed in my test ride. I would like to suggest that you test ride an Aventon ebike before making a decision. They have local dealers all over the country. You can visit their website to find a shop near you. They offer seven models to choose from. If you are looking for a commuter bike, I recommend the Level 2. It has a top speed of 28 mph, a torque sensor, integrated headlights, taillights, turn signals, a color screen, fenders, a rear rack, and a USB power bank under the display. Currently, they are offering an extra battery for free (valued at $500) and $200 worth of accessories. The bike is priced at $1900, but with the current offer, you can get it for only $1200. If you do not need the extra battery, you can sell it. Aventon also has a great Facebook group called Aventon Adventure Owners Group, where you can connect with other Aventon owners and enthusiasts. I wish you the best of luck in choosing the right bike for you.

Because it's not powerful enough, you need to upgrade you're Derailler, You need sram eagle XO, XE, DX, Aventon Derailler Doesn't like the Hi Torque, And you're not going to be able to use the hub motor, Because you gotta take your bottom brackets out. Which has integrated torsensor, So you're only going to be able to the ride in 20mph, Using the throttle, It's pointless, Plus it's gonna fight you're cyc motor, So the best experience to get a full suspension mtb bike I'm converted to a monster, I already have full suspension downhill, a bike and I have the gen 3 on it, And I'd love everything about it, By the way, it's a specialized demo 8, Downhill bike. You can look on the marketplace and you might find a good deal, That's my recommendation to you, Or the worst, You can get a trek marlin 5, or 6, Around $400-500, My first conversion, was brand newTrek marvel 6, I love it, Is the only think it's missing is full Suspension, Once you tried, you will never go back. 🚵♂️🚴♂️🚲
were you using the highest gear to get those speeds? do you switch gears while going? good video!
I'm glad you liked the video! 🎥 Unfortunately, no shifting gears for now with this bike. ⚙️ It's designed for low speed and has a loose chain, so I had to use a strap to keep it tight. 🚴♂️ On the bright side, my Specialized Demo 8 downhill bike has a high-quality Sram Eagle XO Derailler, allowing me to reach higher speeds. 💨 I've also installed a Cyc X1 Pro Gen 3 5000W Motor. ⚡️ To further improve performance, I'm removing the rear hub to reduce weight and resistance on the motor. 🛠️ I've ordered a traditional wheel from AliExpress, which will limit me to a 3-speed gearing system. ⚙️ But I'm building a seventy-two-volt battery for higher speed and torque. 🔋 If the 3 gears didn't work well, I'll switch to a single 28t and change my chainring from 38t to 52t to reduce ghost pedaling. 🚴♂️ The best derailleur for this powerful motor is Sram Eagle XO, Sram DX, or Sram GX. #BikeLife #CyclingEnthusiast #DIYProject 🔧💪
Thanks for your comment! 📝 I'm excited to announce that I'll be doing a range test this weekend! 🚴💨 I'll also be sure to keep your concern in mind. 💡 How about shifting gears? ⚙️ I'm planning to average 20mph, and I'll be including some challenging uphills in my ride. 💪 #RangeTest #CyclingAdventure #PushingLimits
Good stuff eb... Look fwd to your vid about overcoming aerodynamic drag resistance at higher speeds ... and speeding up human reaction times at higher speeds also. ;) Also I have twin 12VDC truck air horns.. just a thought.. :)
I will do the testing video, Hopefully by this weekend, I also have a second bike used last year model gen3 On my specialized demo 8, Full suspension, Downhill bike, I'm gonna do a lot of Testing, and I will Share my feedback, Also gonna explain the cyc ride app, and the DS103 display, So stay tuned. 🚴♂️🎥
@@eBikeXtream Tks eb... Context includes crowded urban planet averaging 20 miles daily to travel less than 20 miles an hour.. "downhill" includes streetcar tracks.. drains.. puddles .. yer neighbours dogs .. traffic... etc. ;) Good luck...
@user-tn7dj9xl4n We'll do that, 👍 thanks for the feedback 😊
Great video, my only concern is safety on the road, maybe you should do it on special track road.
I'm glad you liked the video! 🎥 For safety reasons, I usually don't ride that fast. I was just doing it for the video, and that was the closest back road that not many cars use it. and also, a majority has a shoulders, and It's safe for bikers.
Amazing video and explaining so well. Nice 6 thanks for sharing.
Thank you, I'm glad you like it.
Thank you for making this video it is very informative and making me want to get one for myself to play. I’m thinking of trying to add another motor somehow maybe using a chain and sprocket on the other side of the motor linking the 2 together So it has better takeoff speed and stop the motors getting to hot. Do you think it would be possible to machine a spindle extension so you can put a sprocket on the other side of the motor?
I am happy to share my experience with this excellent motor. I have a question for you. What type of bike are you planning to install the second motor on? You may not need an additional motor. If you use a 72volt battery, it will provide you with ample power and torque. Try to keep the modifications minimal to fully enjoy the capabilities of this fantastic motor and have the best possible experience. When you install it, ensure you use a good quality suspension mountain bike. I have the Gen 3 motor on my Specialized Demo 8, and I absolutely love everything about the bike. It's an absolute blast to ride, which is why I purchased the Gen 4 motor. I've been enjoying it on my fat tire bike. The primary purpose of this bike is commuting to work during the summer and pulling my bike trailer when I go grocery shopping locally. Please let me know what type of bike you have. I would appreciate your feedback. Let's help and learn from each other.
Great video! I’m also considering this motor for a Kona Operator build. Super interested to see how it works for you!
The Kona opera is used. Press fit 107mm, So you need to get the 120mm, You also need a Spacers. For the spacers, you can get it from Electrified bike company, Talk to adam Ostlund, He always chats and helps members on the CYC Owners group.. On facebook, I'm probably gonna work on the Kona Operator, Downhill bike, next month, I'll put the Gen. 3 on my specialized. Demo eight, And I print the spacer using my 3D printer That I purchased from the Micro center. I use ABS filament. The best motor from cyc is the x1 Gen4 And the stealth gen3, Skip the The photon, Overheat" issue, and controller. ruclips.net/video/5icbqkYn4do/видео.htmlsi=mG1H5p7Cie4qc1fK
@@eBikeXtream thanks for the info. Very tempted to pull the trigger on this DIY, but the Enduro lineup from High Power Cycles is tempting too. Decisions!
@thecampokid Nice option, but it's very expensive, Even if you choose there lowest model, And end up getting a higher power motor and 17Ah battery. You're gonna end up paying at least $6000-$10000,Since you have the kona operator, you can get the cyc and the battery either. From Electrified bike company or bicycle motor works, again it's your choice.
@@eBikeXtream Unfortunately I don’t have the Kona yet. If I did it would be an easy DIY decision. It looks like I’ll save $1k-$1.5k doing it myself over buying new, if I can find a Kona for <$2k. Looking forward to seeing your future builds and videos!
@thecampokid Keep trying. Never give up. Do you know how much I pay for the kona Operator? .... $500 only , I also paid $500. For the specialized demo eight Carbon Frame , I got it from an owner for one of the businesses I deliver. Him and he's two sons, They're professional downhill bikers. So you tried to help me out by giving this insane price? Always ask people, you know. If they have something that they're not using. Always check the facebook marketplace. I Build my first cyc x1 gen3 with brand new trek marlin 6, and I loved it, but once I switched it to the specialized bike, It was a mind 🤯. I can't stop laughing and enjoying myself every time I ride this bike.
