I have been very impressed with the build quality of this 6.5, I most often use a smaller knife, and would like to get ahold of one of the 4-5" Jokers at some point in the future. these guys are really knocking it out of the park with what I have seen so far. Bless you my brother for saying what I've been saying for years. One doesn't need a frigging Bowie for bushcraft. I keep either a machete (surveying) or a light hatchet in my pack. My preference is a 5"-6" fixed blade and a medium folder for all around use. Take care.

      Good evening Gents; Figured I'd add in a thought - as guy who has a fascination with both pocket knives and sheath knives. I also share the love of outdoors skills and having spent time teaching Wilderness First Aid I learned along the way that there are literally dozens of blade shapes and a large range of sizes they come in. There are two basic reasons : ascetics and function. A knife made for looks sacrifices function to some degree . Following the sage wisdom of "use it long enough to get to know it" I've regulated a bunch of those knives to the "not carrying that" pile. The sheath knives I carry are all short bladed and I prefer a folding pocket saw to an axe or hatchet for many tasks. If you can spare some coin try the Opinel folding pocket saw. It's super handy and I find it to work great at camp tasks. Bless you both and may all your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.

    Hallooo OTIP and greeting from the other coast. Great to see you guys again and I always enjoy your review of knives you’re using or have used. Blade steel is a super hot topic and its a bit tricky as some folks seem to take it to heart. I’m content with a Buck 110 in 420 HC or ( more recently) a 112 is SV 30 and whatever mysterious stainless my Swiss Army is made from. Also I’ve a love for the old TL 29 electrician’s knives in whatever random high carbon they were made in. Again I’m super happy to see you guys ( ok I only see one of you) back on RUclips and I’m praying your health improves. May all your journeys be adventures and your havens safe.

    • @OtherThanIntendedPurpose
      @OtherThanIntendedPurpose 7 месяцев назад

      thank you. I agree that some people get so hung up on steel, they forget the simple question: does it do what I need? I gauge a steel by how it works.

    • @coatpocketsurvivalist
      @coatpocketsurvivalist 7 месяцев назад

      @@OtherThanIntendedPurpose truth The combination of blade shape and edge combined with the handle needs to be considered. That is, I believe, the initial consideration and you touched on those factors nicely in your review. The steel tells me how long it will endure use and how good it will look (I love me some damascus). The Otzi knife by Condor is super cool but not practical for most applications as I also have larger than average mitts. Looking forward to seeing you guys soon.

    • @OtherThanIntendedPurpose
      @OtherThanIntendedPurpose 7 месяцев назад

      @@coatpocketsurvivalist thank you. and yes, exactly. the blade shape, and relation to the handle are critical in deciding how well a knife, or any tool really, will get the job done. Jack and I have several videos, and a couple over nighters planned for the summer. I hope you enjoy them

    I came over from the link you posted on Dave's channel Fun in the Woods. I agree the pencil sharpener may help with fine curls for people who have a hard time doing it with a knife, but, im an ol' fart and have arthritis in my hands. In a cold environment, id have a hard time grabbing a small enough stick to use the pencil sharpener. Thats just me though. But, collecting the shavings from home using the pencil sharpener and taking to the feild as part of a firekit would work for me. Anyway, ty for the video! WHAZZZZ UP OTIP . The REV be the Best value full size Multitool from Leatherman. Joker Knives and ESEE knives is where I'd go for the fixed blades. For the folders, that's tough cause sooooo many options. I would say get something with a sheepsfoot or Wharncliffe blade and then another that's drop point or spear point. And I'd suggest micarta or g10 on one folder and titanium or carbon fiber on the other. One of the folders should be quite rust resistant steel and the other have a high edge retention. AND, I would have done the requirements as 5 knives for $500, that way you can shift funds a little on each knife. ALL TOGETHER I say this was an excellent topic and you put some solid thoughts on it. Great video Sir.
