    You should use a face mask, like your Covid mask, and mechanics' or nitrile gloves when working on brakes. It will help keep you prevent brake dust inhaling and your hands from cuts and having to spend a lot of time removing embedded brake dust. This guy is presenting a pretty good way to change these pads, and his description is excellent.

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut 9 дней назад

      @@dennissnyder3296 I will agree, better to wear a mask and gloves. Especially if ever using air to blow the brake dust off.

    Note: Often the factory grease used in foreign cars becomes hard. Clean inside the caliper bolt guides and outside of the bolts. You can then replace the factory grease with good quality brake caliper guide grease. When you remove the caliper bolts, keep them separate and put them in the exact same place they came out of.

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut 9 дней назад

      @@dennissnyder3296 yes best to put everything back in exact place it came from, also some calipers have 1 bolt that has an o-ring on the end for anti rattle so that should go back in the same hole. And yes cleanliness of parts and proper grease makes everything last much longer. Thanks for the comments.

  • @dennissnyder3296
    @dennissnyder3296 9 дней назад

    Prior to compressing the piston in the caliper, place a tray under the master cylinder and open the top of the master cylinder. When you compress the piston, you will be pushing fluid from the M.C. and without allowing it to empty the excess that is inside (from all the times you added fluid while the old brake pads wore down), you will end up replacing the master cylinder (in most cases).

    • @RepairNut
      @RepairNut 9 дней назад

      @@dennissnyder3296 I’ve never had to add fluid on my newer cars before the 1st pad change. So no risk of overflowing the master cylinder when changing pads for the first time. Definitely a concern on older cars when it’s likely that someone has replaced a brake line or caliper and had to bleed brakes likely topping off the cylinder.

      Not sure what's under that area, the car isn't around me at the moment. See if you can get a magnet and retrieve it if you're lucky. Otherwise go to the parts store and get a new bolt.

    Thanks for the video. Same thing happened to my Grand Caravan - came off on the freeway in the middle of traffic. I appreciated all the little tips and things to watch for. One additional thing I did once I saw the issue with the foam around the clips: I grabbed 2 squeeze clamps with soft jaws, lined up the clips over the top part of the slots, applied the clamps (not super tight), and started tapping the trim down with a hammer and wooden block. The clips both grabbed the first time and I got the job done without much hassle.

    Would you be able to answer a question I have, I recently brought a petrol strimmer from SGS engineering and I had to return as the unit was too heavy for me to use. When SGS received the item back after I confirmed I did not use it try to, they are saying as there was fuel in the priming bulb they can not expect my return as they are saying I put fuel in it, and attempted to start it, which I did not. My question is would there still be fuel in this bulb left over from SGS testing this unit as surely they would have tested it. I would really appreciate your thoughts why there is fuel in the priming bulb. Many thanks.

      I didn't glue the discs back. I bought the replacement empty key Fob in the link in the description. It has a new rubber pad with all the discs on it. You can then put your circuit board from your old remote in the new plastic case. However others said they used some silicone to try to glue it, or anything that is flexible.
